Heaven by your Side

Summary:

Eriol Hiiragizawa was the protector Tomoyo could ask for. Despite the number of times she pushed him away, he remained on her side and held her tight. But what if an inevitable thing comes their way? How can he protect her fragile heart?

Disclaimer: Cardcaptor Sakura belongs to Clamp.

Author's Notes: Hi! It's the second to the last chapter. :) I don't know if I am just prolonging the story here or what, but well at least I'll spend longer time with you right? hahaha. Anyway, I don't know when will I write another Eriol and Tomoyo fic. I have to go back to writing "One More Night" too since it had been a while since I updated. Also, I might change fandom for a while because I think my next idea is best suited for Kaichou wa Maid Sama. With that since I'll be going out for a while for CCS, please read Right Here Waiting(Part I) and One More Night (Part II)s. It's a Sakura and Syaoran fic though, but I believe I wouldn't fail you if I say your emotions will turn upside down with those two related fics. hahaha.

Anyway, enjoy reading this one and review please! Thanks. :)

Last Chapter:

Eriol remained in his position. There was no need to move since her amethyst eyes immediately locked in his sapphire ones. He held it for a second then all of a sudden, Tomoyo's expression turned into fear and horror.

"Tomoyo, wait!" Eriol shouted, seeing her ran to the left. He tried to catch up, but a black car immediately came into the view and took her away. He watched her go, also remembering the time he saw her ran away like that few years back.

"Eriol."

Hearing the gasp behind him, Eriol turned and was glad to see that neither Sakura nor Syaoran decided to hide. He gave him a nod in recognition then knelt down to pick up the notebook, which Tomoyo dropped when she escaped. He flipped it open, finding the scribbles of short words or sentences.

Finally, he removed his eyes on it to meet emerald ones. "Sakura, what's going on?"

Chapter 17:

The wishbone

"Why on earth did you not tell me?" Eriol asked, furious. He knew was being out of control, but there was no really reason for him to calm down.

Syaoran did the opposite though, amused with the situation he was in. He never saw Eriol openly give off different expressions before, especially the furious side. Honestly, if there would be someone who could be so angry or what freely, it would be him. Eriol had always been a smiling type of person, which sometimes annoyed him because Sakura was very fond of it. "You know that I don't interfere with personal matters, Hiiragizawa." He said, "And if ever I wanted too, Sakura will not let me."

Drawing a deep breath, Eriol knew that he was right. Sakura and Tomoyo had always been partners in crime and if ever they wanted him to help, Sakura would be the first person to tell him. "What exactly happened?"

Syaoran put down his glass of scotch. He decided to take him to his home, but instead of getting him to the training room, he invite him to the living room and poured him some alcohol. "Tomoyo was sick. The doctors said that it had been there for long so it was a more complicated case."

With that, Eriol remembered. When Tomoyo was in England, there were series of times that she cough blood or had changes in voice. He noticed it before, but Tomoyo always reasoned out that she was just tired. "Damn it. I should have known."

"It's not under your control, Hiiragizawa." The amber-eyed guy said. "Nobody even predicted it."

Eriol kept silent, contemplating what Tomoyo was thinking. He wasn't furious at her actually, but with himself. He knew that it wasn't impossible for her to run away once again, but he didn't know that this time it would be from him. He was supposed to protect her, but failed once again. "Where is she?"

"At the mansion."

Sakura arrived at the Daidouji mansion, easily feeling the tension inside its halls. She immediately found her way though since most of the bodyguards knew who she was plus the place was like a third home for her. Stopping by Tomoyo's room, she listened for a few seconds before she silently opened the door.

Tomoyo rushed into the room back and forth and things were mostly out of place. "Tomoyo…"

Halting, Tomoyo immediately recognized her voice. She turned around, her swollen eyes meeting Sakura's worried ones. Without hesitation, she ran into her, dropping all the mask of bravery she pulled over these past few days. She was prepared for that encounter, but experiencing it was worse than she imagined. She thought that Eriol would suddenly marched back to Japan to demand for answers, yet the moment they met, she recognized his feelings easily. It was confused, but open. And she didn't want that. Seeing him that way would only make it hard for her to move. Eriol had already sacrificed to much for her and she could not bear to drag him along his whole life time.

In a way, Sakura was relieved to hold her. Because at that point she knew that Tomoyo might do. It had been going on in her mind since the tragedy happened, but thankfully, her wedding was quite useful by keeping her in Tomoeda. "I saw him too. Syaoran is handling him right now."

Tomoyo slowly let go and grabbed her notebook to write her response. "I can't see him, Sakura."

"I know. But he's here. Whether you like it or not, you know he won't let you go without an explanation. He needs it Tomoyo."

"I know. But I need time to think."

Sakura kept silent, though realized what she was asking for.

"I need to leave Tomoeda."

"Alright. I'll ask aunt Sonomi if you could stay in the summer house." Sakura said, thinking that it may be the best choice. At least she would know where her cousin would be and travel from Tomoeda from there was only for a few minutes. "Will you be fine on your own though?"

Another day.

Tomoyo took a deep breath before stepping out of the balcony to greet the silence before her. Going away to Tomoeda for a while, she thought that she would be okay. However, things were harder. After losing her voice, she gave up the love of her life and few days from now, she would let go of the person she was taking care of since she was a kid.

To make things even worse, she won't be able to be with her for the last remaining days because of Eriol's reappearance in her life.

Sitting on the chair, she set aside her coffee and open her laptop. After finishing all the dresses for the wedding yesterday, Tomoyo decided to work on her most important project—the wedding gift. She ran through all her files in her laptop, sorting the videos she took since they were elementary to the most recent. Luckily, she remembered most of the important moments of Sakura and Syaoran. Clicking a random video, Tomoyo watched, surprising herself too. Of all videos she have to see, it was the one at the Teddy Bear festival when they were only fifth grade.

"Hey." Eriol's voice rang on her ears. The focus of the camera then shift to a blue haired boy smiling. Then she heard herself giggle, as if understanding what he meant. Immediately, her camera turned to capture Syaoran struggling to keep his feelings and Sakura, who was clueless about what's happening.

"I'll be missing Sakura too."

Tomoyo's gasped and felt her chest tighten. With the silence all over, she knew that she could not be mistaken for the familiarity of the voice. She looked up, amethyst drowning to sapphire. She shivered inwardly.

"It's nice to see you, Tomoyo." Eriol started, trying to ease the tension that filled the air.

Tomoyo remained silent and tried to think of her next action.

"Don't go." Eriol said, as if reading her mind. "There is not need for you to run, for if there is someone unwelcome in this place, it would be me. I'm here because I want to ask you something."

Hesitating, Tomoyo knew she really had no choice.

Eriol smiled as he saw her eased a bit. Then he put his hands on his pockets and pulled out a familiar object. "Remember this?" he said, showing a wish bone.

Tomoyo nodded. How could she forget? It was her gift to him for his birthday. She had a crazy time finding it, but the smile he gave her after she handed it to him made her feel it's worth it.

"I have my wish now."

Curiosity kicking in, Tomoyo hesitated at first. She was afraid what he would ask, but trust found its way and made her reach the other half. 'Whoever would have the longest part will have his wish come true.'

They held each others gaze for a moment and split the bone into two.

Eriol looked at his half. "Mine is longer." he said, pulling up a small smile. "Goodbye, Tomoyo." Then he stepped back and left her in awe.
