"Maybe it would be best to return to Saburo," InuKimi told the human girl, her eyes glued to the back of her son's head. She waited a moment more for Rin to leave them alone on the hill. InuKimi gently placed her hand on his shoulder and sighed.
"Son, you need to understand something," InuKimi started as she led Sesshomaru to a spot where Rin was visible. She hated to do this, but there was no other way to get through to him. Her point had to be made, and Rin was the way to make him listen. She softly pushed on his shoulder to signal her desire to sit. She waited for some reply but received none. He avoided eye contact and so did she.
"There is a world out there: a world of pain, deceit, sorrow, and evil. There are moments of happiness and joy, but those moments cause the most pain. Think about it. Without a sense of great merriment, what is there to be sad about? Nothing can be felt over something never had. I once feel for the false joy love had brought me and the only thing I have left is…emptiness. Do you see?" Nothing.
"I understand that the innocence of a child seems like a beautiful thing, but it does not last. The world takes it away and destroys the small flicker of hope and wonder it has. The world destroys it from the inside out. First the brain, then the heart. You once were that way, but I raised you properly. I taught you all you needed to know. And have you felt any pain?
Some say pain is better than feeling nothing at all. Those are the ones that are fools. Once deceived, you feel empty anyways. You feel like nothing matters and you cry. You cry and cry and cry, but for what? For an idea? For something you thought you had? Do you understand why I am telling you this?" Silence.
"Because, believe it or not, I love you and I actually care." She pointed to the little girl staring back at them. "You're only going to get hurt. She's going to grow up and stop following you. Then what? What will you do? She'll leave forget about you, along with those so called 'happy moments' that you shared. I raised you to feel nothing to protect you. I was afraid this would happen." She sighed. "This will not bring you what you think. This will only cause the destruction inside you that it once caused me." She glanced over to see an expression of severe contemplation on her son's face. She smiled. Her work was done.
She really did love her son, but she hated to see him like this. He was, undoubtedly, weak. The same happened to his father years before and the fear of lose was well in her mind. How someone could even think about sacrificing themselves, for a mere human none the less, was beyond her knowledge. Ever since the human girl started to follow her son, he hasn't been the same child she had brought up.
She looked over to find the space beside her unoccupied. Groaning dramatically, InuKimi followed her son's lead and entered the old house.
