"Max?"
I woke with a start, looking around at my oddly familiar surroundings. Then I remembered where I was and what had happened. Dylan had found me at the amusement park and Fang had brought me back to his house. I fell asleep during the movie.
I looked around the room, searching for the voice that had woken me up. It wasn't Fang, he was asleep at my feet, I let him be. Then my eyes landed on a confused Ella. I knew she would be back at some point tonight but I hadn't come up with a reason as to why I'd be at her house alone. Well I was with Fang but she still thought I hated him. That thought surprised me. I hadn't really realized that these past weeks I had not only stopped hating Fang, I started trusting him too.
"Umm, Max? Not that I don't want you here or anything, but is there a reason you're here?" Ella asked, fully stepping into the room. Her eyes finally fell upon the sleeping Fang and her expression went to confused to totally lost.
I decided that it was time to wake Fang up so I stretched my foot out and kicked him in the thigh. He didn't budge so I poked him harder. He finally groaned and sat up straighter. He rubbed his eyes and turned to look at me, a grouchy expression written across his face.
"Did I fall asleep?" he asked me, not noticing Ella. He turned his head to the tv and squinted at the clock. "It's eleven? What time did we put the movie in, six?"
"Why hello to you too, big bro," Ella broke in. By now she didn't look very happy. Then I noticed the lack of bags by her feet and wrote her crankiness off to lack of good shopping. "Will someone please explain to me what's going on?"
I watched as Fang turned to look at me, silently asking what I wanted to do. I shrugged so he turned to look at his sister. He grinned at her and said, "Hey, how was shopping?" This threw Ella off guard as she was expecting an answer to her question. She rolled her eyes and looked between the two of us, waiting silently. Fang let out a barely audible sigh and spoke up, realizing I wasn't going to. "Max came here looking for you but you weren't here so we put in a movie and apparently fell asleep."
Ella looked suspicious but let the subject drop. She grinned at me and asked if I'd ever heard of a phone. At the mention of my phone I reached for it and found it wasn't in my pocket. Fang and Ella watched as I searched in my other pockets, the couch and the floor. In the middle of my search Ella asked, "Is that Fang's shirt?" but I ignored her, desperately looking now.
I thought back to earlier, trying to remember where I left it but I couldn't think. Turning to Ella I said, "I guess I lost it somewhere. Remind me to look for it." What I was really thing though is what if Dylan had it? If he did he'd see my texts with Fang and know that he knew. I started internally freaking out.
"Yeah, okay," she replied through a yawn. "You staying over?"
I hesitated but then decided that why not? My mom would be okay with it. "Yeah, if it's alright. Can I sleep down here though?" I really wanted some time to myself, to think about what I was going to do and what not.
Ella shrugged and went upstairs, not even saying goodnight. Fang stayed behind though and was currently watching me. I turned to him and raised an eyebrow. He rolled his eyes and opened his mouth to speak. "You gonna be alright down here by yourself?"
It was my turn to roll my eyes. I wasn't afraid of the dark. In all honesty I was really only afraid of one thing, and I'd rather not say his name. "Go to bed Fang. And thanks," I told him, giving him a small smile. He stood up and walked passed me, touching my shoulder gently as he walked by. When he was out of the room I settled back down on the couch and fell asleep.
It was late at night and I was riding in a car. Outside the car it was blurry, so I couldn't discern my surroundings. When I turned to look at the driver I saw that it was Dylan. I could tell he was angry, really angry, but I didn't know why. Suddenly he turned to me, taking his eyes off the road. "You're a bitch, you know that? All this time we've been together and you've been secretly shagging that goth guy?" I knew he was talking about Fang but that just confused me even more. I'd never even kissed Fang, let alone sleep with him .But Dylan didn't seem to know this. "I'm gonna find the bastard and beat him to a pulp. Then I'll deal with you." He never got the chance to do any of that though because in the next moment he swerved on the road and flipped the car. I screamed as we rolled over, landing on the top of the car. I turned my head to look at Dylan and saw that he was unconscious, possibly dead. I couldn't reach my phone from my position. I was numb, blood was dripping into my eyes, and I felt myself slipping into darkness, but one last thought rang clear in my head. Fang can't save you this time.
Fang can't save you this time. I woke with a start for the fourth time today, breathing heavily. The dream was so real, that it scared me. I sat in the dark alone, thinking, for quite some time. What Dylan said kept coming to the front of my mind, how he was going to hurt Fang, and to my last thought before waking up. Fang wasn't always going to be there to save me.
In that moment I made the most important decision in my life. I was going to end things with Dylan, one way or another. If not for me, then for Fang because if Dylan finds out that Fang knows, there is no doubt in my mind that he would hurt Fang. And that would be worse than him hurting me. It was time to make a stand.
A/N: Hey guys, sorry for the wait. This won't be a long author's note. I just wanted to say thanks for staying with me and the story and being patient. To be honest this probably will be a short story, ending in a few chapters or something. I don't know, I literally make it up as I go. Thanks again. Reviews are helpful!
