Happy Valentine's Day, Mr. Northman…

Sookie looked at herself in the mirror and sighed. She wanted to feel sexy, she wanted to make him feel special but she was afraid that it was a lost cause. They had talked about it last week and he had made his opinion clear both in thought and words.

"Valentine's Day is a ridiculous human holiday. They have so few days to live in this world that they have to make each one a special occasion to justify their existence. Immortals have no time for such piffle. We will live until the sun burns from the sky, Sookie. What need have we of paper hearts and greeting cards?"

She had wanted to tell him that she had felt exactly the same way until she had met him Dallas and the whole world had suddenly become full of red paper hearts. She wanted to tell him that they floated around his head when she looked him and I made her smile even she felt her saddest. She wanted to tell him that for all the commercialism the humans had instilled in the day that she believed at heart of it was a worthy event. The heart of it was a day to stop and appreciate those that you love and pay homage to them and what they mean to you.

She had said nothing though. If there were no hearts around her head when he looked at her it might make her a little sad, but what else could she expect? He was a two thousand year old vampire. Hearts to him were sustenance, not romance.

She had put away her fanciful notions and flowery words and decided that she would do something for him. He might not know why she was doing it, but she would. She would give thanks for the wonder that her life had become since she had looked down from the stage and saw him standing there in his cowboy hat.

Making her plans brought the smile back to her face and she set about trying to make the night as special for him as she could. She had spent the day at the spa making her skin was soft and her nails were perfectly manicured. She had her hair done and stopped to get the perfect negligee in his favorite color, red. She had arrived back home just moments before and slipped into her gown ready to join him in bed and let him awaken to her arms around him and her lips on his skin. She would love him the way he deserved and she would give thanks for them both to the universe that had brought them together.

Smiling at the thought of what would happen when he awoke to find her there she stepped out of the dressing room and into the bedroom. She came to a stop when she saw him already awake and on their bed in nothing but a pair of black silk pajamas. She paused and looked him over from head to toe, her breath catching when she saw the smile on his face and pink rose in his hands.

He rose from the bed, picking up something from the night stand and moved toward her slowly, holding her gaze when his. When he got to her he stopped and handed her an envelope. She looked at him curiously and he gestured for her to open it. When she did, dozens of small glittery red hearts fell out onto the floor and a larger folded heart leaped out at her. Her hands were shaking and it gave the heart the appearance of beating. The words of his heart were written beneath it.

Sookie,

I will love you every day until the sun burns from the sky.

Yours,

Eric

She looked up at him, tears filling her eyes. He softly kissed her lips and placed the pink rose in her hand. "For you," he whispered as he slipped his arms around her. Music filled the room then and he pulled her into his arms and started to dance with her his chin resting on her head as they moved.

I'll wear your winter coat, the one you love to wear
So I keep feeling close to what's beyond compare
The moments waking up, you catch me in your eyes
That beauty on my pillow that holds me in the night

And I would fight my strength to untape my mouth
When I used to be afraid of the words
But with you I've learnt just to let it out
Now my heart is ready to burst
Cause I, I feel like I'm ready for love
And I, wanna be your everything and more
And I know every day I say it
But I just want you to be sure
That I am yours

And if I be feeling heavy
You take me from the dark
Your arms they keep me steady
So nothing could fall apart

And I would fight my strength to untape my mouth
When I used to be afraid of the words
But with you I've learnt just to let it out
Now my heart is ready to burst
'Cause I, I feel like I'm ready for love
And I wanna be your everything and more
And I know every day I say it
But I just want you to be sure
That I am yours

That I am yours

"How did you know?" she asked him when the music stopped.

"I knew the moment I saw you on that stage. I am reminded each time I see you. Every day is a day of love with you, Miss Stackhouse." She hugged him close to her and whispered into his chest.

"Happy Valentine's Day, Mr. Northman."
