D - Dance

Dance – To move one's feet or body, or both, rhythmically in a pattern of steps, especially to the accompaniment of music ( )

Bobby smirked as he leaned against the wall of the gym. His arms crossed as he scanned the lively scene around him. Peers his age were laughing, talking, and dancing the night away.

The dances were held quarterly at the school. The entire student population plus neighboring mutant academies was always invited. It was to help develop friendships between mutants and the academies. For the students it was a great time to hook up.

"Dude, have you seen half the babes in this room? They're smoking hot." Ray's loud voice yelled in Bobby's ear.

Nodding eagerly Bobby's eyes scanned and paused for a few seconds at the girls that caught his eye.

"Don't you love these things?" Ray added as he thrust a drink into Bobby's empty hand.

Bobby let out loud laugh. "The dance itself I'm not sure I can call it love. But definitely being surrounded by these beautiful ladies now that I love." The last word escaped his lips as his eyes land on a stunning girl across the room laughing. Suddenly his thoughts seemed very far away and distracted from his best friend.

"You're joking right." Ray's arm landing heavily upon Bobby shoulders the action drawing back Bobby's attention back to him. "You're the king of dance."

"Don't call me that." Bobby scoffed as he shoved Ray's arm off his shoulders. "I am not the king of dance. And besides, dude, that sounds so gay." He landed a punch on his best friend's arm at the end of his last comment.

Ray's annoying laugh filled the air as he rubbed his arm. "Okay okay, jeez, don't need to hurt a guy."

"You're not a guy if you think that light little punch was sore." Bobby commented as he softly punched Ray again. "Don't cry now." He teased.

Pushing Bobby, Ray grunted, "Shut up. Now get yourself away from that wall and pick a girl so you can be my wing man."

Bobby watched as Ray strutted towards the large crowds near the dance floor. Bobby had to admit he enjoyed dances. Most nights especially with an enthusiastic like Ray as a best friend the two attractive young men found it a great time meet new ladies.

For Bobby it helped that he wasn't shy when it came to dancing. Unlike some of his peers Bobby wasn't a horrible dancer. Prior to attending Xavier's School Bobby was forced to take almost every type of dance possible with his mother. He in fact was an exceptional dancer. It may be that contributing factor that made him agile on the field with the X-men.

Bobby's eyes sought out for the girl that had caught his attention earlier. Finding her in the crowd his grey eyes settled and he took his time taking in her appearance. She really was stunning Bobby thought. Didn't look like any of the other girls or at least ones he usually dated. Deep in thought he soon found himself staring straight into sapphire eyes that looked right back at him.

Realizing he been caught Bobby straightened his body and smiled weakly to her. He silently prayed he didn't look like one of those creepy guys who stare. He wondered what her name was. Before he could do anything else to redeem himself or make him look even more like a creeper Ray's voice yelled over the loud music causing Bobby to look away.

Letting out a sigh Bobby pushed himself off the wall as Ray began to loudly call him to come out on the dance floor. Again, most nights Bobby would be stepping up the position as wingman. Or in other cases he'd be the over eager one looking for a girl to dance with so he could date or make out with later.

Once more, his eyes stole a quick look at the girl only to see her looking back at her friends again, the moment gone. He recognized one of them as Kitty, his x-men teammate; maybe he would be able to introduce himself later.

Jubilee giggled with her friends as they stood by the punch table. Jubilee herself wasn't a number one fan when it came to dances. She wasn't one of those girls who went squealing when their favorite song starts to play. Or goes rushing to the dance floor. She wasn't one of those girls but she always found her self at dances. And yet somehow she always found herself having a great time.

"Oh there are sure a lot of good looking guys tonight." Amara squealed as her eyes scanned the room.

Kitty let out a low whistle as she followed Amara's actions. "Don't drool too much Mara, you know you have a boyfriend." Kitty teased. Jubilee giggled out loud at the comment.

Amara shrugged her shoulders as her eyes continued to scan the room. "Hey, I'm allowed to look. Besides, someone's got to pick out somebody for Jubilee."

Jubilee's giggled died, "Hey wait what? Who said anything about you needing to pick out someone for me?"

"Oh Jubilee of course I know I don't need to pick out a guy for you." Amara exclaimed as she brought her attention away from the crowds of guys and unto her friend. "But it's been several months since you dated what's his name. Plus, I got to live vicariously through someone."

Jubilee stared back at Amara a little in shock. Amara was right Jubilee didn't ever really need anyone's help talking to a guy or dating. In fact, because of her care free personality the male population drifted towards her naturally. Not to mention the obvious fact she was gorgeous. Sapphire eyes and a smooth unflawed complexion and a body like a gymnast. Whether it was friendly conversation or casual dating, she never had a problem.

"And you suppose that someone is me tonight?" Jubilee asked, curious and amused.

Amara laughed, "Well it can't be Kitty, we all know she has thing for –"

The smirk on Kitty's face immediately disappeared. "Oh no. For god's sake do not say his name." Kitty hissed, her eyes immediately looking around to see if anyone was listening.

Jubilee let out a laugh at the thought of Kitty and her crush this guy sure was someone special. Normally Kitty would be skipping towards any guy that caught her eye. However, this guy has her nervous and stuttering. Before she can join in on the teasing Amara squealed.

"Besides, I think that guy is looking at Jubilee." Amara gushed.

Immediately all the girls on the table turned in the direction that Amara eyes faced. Looking towards the wall Jubilee's eyes scanned the area trying to figure which guy Amara was talking about.

"Who?" Whispered Kitty and she leaned forward her eyes also looking.

Amara laughed, "Why are you whispering, it's not like he's going to hear you. He's across the room!"

Glaring Kitty crossed her arms, "Oh ha-ha, just hurry up and point him out!"

"The guy leaning against the wall. Brown hair, oh he just punched his friend on the arm!" Amara answered.

Jubilee's eyes finally found where Amara was looking. There he was dark brown hair, broad shoulders and a large smile on his face. He looked fit and she had to admit a very good-looking guy. Well from where she could see. Who knew how much different he might look up close.

"Oh I know who that is." Kitty said in a low whisper, "That's Bobby Drake and his friend Ray. Bobby's a year younger than me, so a year older than you Jubilee."

Looking away Jubilee turned to face a grinning Kitty, "You feel the need to specifically tell me this?"

Kitty shrugged her shoulders, "Well Mara said he was looking at you. I thought you ought to know who was checking you out."

"I'm curious." Amara butted in, "If he's a year older than us how come I've never seen him around much or at all."

Jubilee perked up from the question. Amara was right, looking back, Jubilee can't really recall ever seeing him around or his friend.

"He's part of the X-men. So his schedule is a little different due to the training. That's how I know him." Kitty explained.

Amara giggled, "Oh X-men, you know what that means? He has to be fit and very active, maybe even a hot body."

Jubilee let out a laugh as her friends sent her suggestive looks. The thought of a nice hot body Jubilee couldn't stop herself as she stole another look at Bobby Drake to check him out.

Jubilee let out a soft gasp, surprised to his grey eyes staring straight at her. Amara was right she instantly thought, he really was staring at her earlier. She surprised him just as much catching him staring. Jubilee looked back amused at his reaction of being caught and as he smiled weakly at her. Then within seconds of his smile his face looked another way his friend calling him from the dance floor.

"Were you just checking him out?" Amara teased drawing Jubilee attention away from Bobby as he disappeared into the dance floor.

Jubilee smiled and shrugged, "Well weren't you the one who said we're all allowed to look." The entire table broke into laughter.

Bobby laughed as ran a hand through his hair. He followed the movements of the cute blonde in front of him. She was pretty, Tracy or was it Lacy, he really couldn't hear her name when Ray introduced them. He didn't bother to ask for her to repeat it. There really was only one girl's name he wanted to know by the end of the night.

"You're a great dancer." Tracy whispered loudly into his ear. It had to be Tracy he thought. Her body slid closer against his as they danced.

Bobby replied, "Thank you. You're not bad yourself." Smiling as he felt her rub against him again. This one was definitely a provocative one. After dancing and dating so many girls he met at dances Bobby could easily tell a girls personality just by the way she danced.

Before she could do another dip against him her friend came cutting in. "Tracy, let's go to the bathroom."

Flashing a smile and pressing her body against him once more Tracy brought her lips against his ear, "I'll be back. Wait for me?"

Bobby nodded his head silently as he watched the girls slip their hands together and walk off the dance floor.

"She was all over you." Ray laughed as he threw an arm over Bobby's shoulder. The weight of Ray's arm tugged Bobby towards the punch table and off the dance floor. "I'm thirsty, let's grab a drink." Ray announced.

Bobby pushed Ray's arm off him and followed. "Dude you're sweating."

Ray shrugged, "What can I say, I was working my moves with Natalie."

Smirking Bobby grabbed a drink. "Why don't you just ditch the party and bring her back to your room already." It was already so obvious the thoughts Ray was having in his mind, his plans for the rest of the evening. And from what Bobby could tell it seemed like the girl Ray was dancing with was hoping for the same kind of plans.

"You read my mind, my friend." Ray answered with a sly smile on his face. Holding his drink in the air towards Bobby he raised an eyebrow. "What about you? Tracy looks like she'd be down for some fun."

Bobby nodded his head silently. Tracy made no effort to play conservative while they danced. In every moment she had she found a way to touch or grind up against him. It was one of the benefits of dancing. He contemplated silently what he would do once they came back from the bathroom.

Just as Bobby was about to give his answer he felt himself being pushed from behind. Stumbling forward Bobby held his cup high hoping to avoid it from spilling on himself or Ray who was already backing up to avoid the potential accident.

"Whoa, what the hell." Ray yelled jumping out of the way.

Shrugging Bobby spun around ready to confront whoever stumbled into him. "Hey -" his voice caught as he was met with sapphire eyes.

Jubilee shot a hard look at Kitty as she caught her footing and balance. Kitty's giggle stopped immediately as Jubilee gave her an accusing look.

"Kitty you did that on purpose." Jubilee hissed over her shoulder. Just moments ago she was walking with Amara and Kitty when all of a sudden she heard Kitty let out a squeal before not very discreetly pushing Jubilee forward.

A deep voice interrupted her from saying anything more. Jubilee shot another look at Kitty who in return just gave her a coy smile. One minute, they were walking and laughing the next minute Jubilee was being pushed into a guy. Kitty was going to pay Jubilee silently thought.

"I am so sorry." Jubilee quickly apologized as she looked up and towards the teenage boy in front of her. Her eyes widen as she realized just whom she had stumbled into. It all made sense now. Jubilee instantly knew what made Kitty purposively push her.

Bobby Drake.

Jubilee smiled weakly as Bobby stared at her surprised. He had stopped talking once their eyes met as if he lost his train of thought. She watched as he opened and closed his mouth as if making a few attempts to talk but said nothing.

"Hey Drake looks like all the girls can't help but fall over you." Ray commented, nudging Bobby with his elbow. Jubilee's eyes narrowed at Ray and she caught in the corner of her eyes Bobby's frown as she did so. Taking no notice of Jubilee small reaction Ray continued as he looked directly at Jubilee, "She was practically all over you." A large goofy smile displayed on his face.

"Shut up Ray." Bobby whispered loudly as he shoved Ray from beside him. His eyes and attention still focused on her.

"Excuse me." Jubilee scoffed. "I'll have you know it was a accident." Rolling her eyes Jubilee gave Bobby a once over, "I'm not one of those girls." Annoyed Jubilee flipped her hair and pushed her way through the two teenage boys and away from the punch table.

"Ray you're such a idiot." Kitty's voiced trailed somewhere behind her. "Seriously you can be so sexist." From the sounds of her friends Jubilee figured they stayed behind scolding this Ray person.

Jubilee was right Bobby was good looking; he looked even better up close. He was handsome. Yet, if his personality matched anything like his friend, Jubilee lost all interest all together. No matter how hot she thought he looked.

Just as she almost hit the exit doors out of the gym a hand gently touched her shoulder stopping her. "That wasn't funny Kitty, you shouldn't have pushed me." Jubilee snapped as she turned around. Normally Jubilee wouldn't be so touchy about small things like that. She could take a little embarrassment or teasing. What she couldn't take or rather didn't put up with was comments like Ray's. It was one of Jubilee's biggest turn offs when it came to the opposite sex.

Jubilee's frown only deepened as she met grey eyes instead of Kitty's. Bobby stood smiling weakly back at her. "Hi."

Bobby rubbed the back of his neck. Jubilee stared back at him glaring and he found it really unnerving. He don't know what he was thinking but he chased after her hoping to redeem himself from the poor moment of them meeting. It wasn't exactly how he imagined their first interaction together since he spotted her earlier that evening.

"Uh, sorry about my friend. Ray uh- he can be like that sometimes." Bobby managed to spurt out.

"Like that, as in a jerk?" Jubilee rolled her eyes.

Bobby smirked amused at Jubilee's blunt honest opinion. "Yeah, a jerk." He agreed as he stepped closer to Jubilee.

Coughing Bobby stretched out his hand, "My name is Bobby Drake. I'm not a jerk."

Smirking she reached out to shake his hand, "Jubilee."

"Jubilee." Bobby smiled as her name left his lips. He finally can place a name to the face that caught his eye earlier that night.

Sapphire eyes caught his gaze and Bobby felt his heart start to beat faster. "Uh, how about a dance?"

"Excuse me?" Jubilee replied surprised at his suggestion.

Before Bobby could answer the sound of Ray's annoying voice filled the air. "Yo Bobby!"

Lifting his eyes away from Jubilee, Bobby looked to see his best friend approaching with Natalie and Tracy at his side. Ray never seemed to be aware of situations in which would be called bad timing. Sighing Bobby ran a hand through his hair. Before he could get another apology out to Jubilee, he realized she was already walking out and away from him. His chance for a dance and further conversation was gone now.

"Ray." Bobby growled as he watched Jubilee's back walk away.

"Hey, we're going to get out of here. Let's go." Ray said with a laugh as he threw his arm over Bobby's shoulders. "Come on, these girls are so down." Ray whispered loudly.

"Sorry Jubes, I shouldn't have pushed you." Amara sighed exasperated once Jubilee returned from the bathroom. "Bobby Drake just seemed like a great prospect for a guy to date or at least fool around with." Amara added with a giggle.

Scoffing Jubilee waved her hand in the air as she recalled overhearing Ray's comment minutes ago, "I couldn't date or even the least fool around with someone as arrogant as his friend."

"Oh no Jubilee. Bobby is nothing like Ray." Kitty defended the ice mutant. "Ray is the womanizer. Not to say Bobby doesn't enjoy his women ventures. He is a lot less egotistic. Definitely more humble than Ray."

"It doesn't matter. I doubt I'll see Bobby Drake anymore tonight." Jubilee commented as she recalled watching a girl hang on Bobby's arm asking him to leave with her.

Letting out cough almost choking on her drink Kitty shook her head, "I doubt that." She lifted her cup up and her gaze looked over Jubilee's shoulder.

Jubilee turned slowly and looked over her shoulder. Low and behold stood the famous male topic tonight.

"What is he doing here?" Jubilee silently mouthed to her friends.

Shrugging her shoulders Amara whispered loudly, "Well he was checking you out earlier."

Kitty silently agreed as she nodded her head. Catching Amara's eyes Kitty stood up from her stare.

"We'll leave you two alone." Amara announced out loud as she grabbed her purse and flashing an encouraging smile to Bobby.

Bobby stammered, "You two don't really need to leave. I just wanted to talk to Jubilee."

Kitty let out a giggle as she passed her teammate. Tapping her hand against his chest, "I'm sure you'd like to be alone with Jubilee."

"Guys." Jubilee hissed as she watched her friends slowly leave. They both had a look of glee. And although they've done this to each other before whenever a potential/interested male came around. Jubilee couldn't help but silently abandoned at that moment. Normally, she'd welcome it or laugh it off but for some strange reason her heart started racing at the thought of being 'alone' in another conversation with Bobby.

Maybe it was the fact Jubilee could not help deny her immediate physical attraction to him. The second that he seemed so determined to talk to her despite their previous encounter and her walking off without saying another word. The third and probably the real reason why she didn't want to be alone was she wasn't sure she could trust herself to not 'fall' for this guy and his amazing good looks. Sure she wouldn't mind finding herself in a small fling with or maybe something more. But Jubilee had her standards her morals; she didn't date guys who were arrogant when it came to women.

Jubilee glared and stood up after her friends. Purse in hand she forced a smile to Bobby, "Actually we were on our way out."

Bobby's face immediately showed his disappointment and Jubilee couldn't help but feel like it was genuine.

"Actually. Amara and I wanted to stay a little longer." Kitty interjected. "Bobby, you'll make sure Jubilee gets to her room safe tonight?" Kitty kindly asked.

Amara gave Jubilee a quick hug goodbye. "You'll thank us for this later." She whispered into her friend's ear.

Kitty's hug followed shortly after, "I know it doesn't look like it. But he really is a good guy Jubes. You'll be surprised."

Jubilee watched as he mumbled a surprised yes to Kitty's question and waved goodbye to her departing friends. She let out a sigh as her friends disappeared on the dance floor.

Bobby stood silently shocked as he watched his teammate and her friend walk away leaving him and Jubilee alone. He wasn't sure what to expect when he made his way back to Jubilee and her friends. All he knew was when he had the opportunity to get some action with Tracy and yet all he could think about was getting to know more about this Jubilee girl. There was something about the way she looked, the way she talked, her personality and attitude that made him want to spend more time with her. Yet, he sure as hell wasn't expecting this time alone with her.

Hearing a cough Bobby's attention returned to Jubilee. She stood looking slightly uncomfortable and Bobby still couldn't help but think she looked beautiful.

"You don't need to walk me to my room." Jubilee stated as she turned slowly to head towards the exit of the room.

Realizing she was about to leave him Bobby took a quick step so he stood directly next to her. "Um, I really did want to talk." Bobby stammered again. Bobby never stammered and maybe it was the past two interactions between them have been very poor but he felt like an idiot who didn't know how to talk to girls.

Jubilee raised a silent eyebrow as she stared back at him. "I was pretty sure you were on your way out with that girl. What do you want to talk to me about?"

Bobby turned red immediately. He normally didn't try to pursue two girls in one night to avoid situations like this. Sure he had his moments where all he was looking for was a fling but he didn't consider himself a player and tried his best not to lead a girl on emotionally.

What did he want to talk about? There he was ready to leave the dance with a girl who was practically begging him to take her back to his room. He had accomplished his mission. Yet, something stopped him and all he had was this desire to find Jubilee. He didn't know why but he just wanted to be with her.

"You never answered my question."

"What question?" Jubilee asked as she rolled her eyes.

Bobby ran a hand through his hair. Why was he pursuing this girl he silently asked himself. She obviously doesn't seem interested, in fact he looked like a complete fool in front of her twice already because of Ray. "Do you want to dance?" Bobby asked as he followed her out of the gym. Was that all he could think of to say to her? He silently cursed himself.

"Bobby, right?"

Hearing his voice Bobby looked up. He hadn't realized he stopped walking Jubilee now stood a few feet ahead of him. Her eyes stared back at him as if she was trying to read his mind. He wondered if she realized how much he was interested in to her, how much he felt like he was looking like a complete fool, that he felt completely out of his game in front of her.

Jubilee looked at him curiously. Trying to remember Amara's encouraging words about Bobby Drake. She wasn't sure why she was giving him a hard time. He hadn't done anything to specifically offend her. In fact, all he seemed to be doing so far was a poor attempt to interact with her. The lingering idea of the way the girl hung on his arm made it seem like he was use to that kind of situations and probably enjoyed them. Now that was the kind of guys Jubilee avoided.

"Look. Bobby. You're a good-looking guy but I know your type." The compliment caused a smile to break out of on Bobby's nervous face. Jubilee continued, "You come to dances and I'm sure you have an easy time picking up girls. It's probably why you come to these things. But I'm not one of those girls you can dance with and at the end of the night hope to bring back to your room."

"So I'm sorry to disappoint you, if you were looking to score tonight. It's not with me. You really should have left with that girl if that was the goal." Jubilee smiled weakly. She was being rash and blunt. Not her best traits but definitely her traits.

Guilt filled her immediately as she looked at Bobby's shock, an obviously disappointed look, and a possible hint of rejection.

Kicking his shoe against the floor Bobby smirked back at her. He looked embarrassed as he shoved his hands into his pockets. He laughed nervously, he wasn't a liar, "Maybe I am kind of like the guys you just described, but I'm not completely like that. And I was really just looking to dance with you. You caught my eye earlier this evening and I admit I'm attracted to you."

The last sentence caught Jubilee by surprised that he would admit he was staring at her. Then for a mere second Jubilee considered taking his offer and getting to know this guy.

"Sorry Bobby I don't dance." Jubilee flashed a smile weakly and with that she walked away.

Bobby stood silently shocked as he watched Jubilee's figure turn the corner. On a different night Bobby would go running after her. He normally did whenever a girl caught his attention.

This night however was different. She of course was very different from any other girl he had ever pursued. She hit his personality and actions right on the nail and she called him out on it. Everything she said was true, minus the fact he wasn't intentionally trying to get her to hook up with him. Well maybe that was slightly true he rethought.

His shoulders drooped and he let out a sigh. Bobby cursed Ray at spoiling his previous interactions things could have gone so much smoother and different if Ray was more aware of his words and actions. He silently pondered if he'd get another chance in the future to redeem himself.

A soft hand touched his shoulder briefly and he watched as two figures walked passed him.

"Don't worry Bobby. Don't take it personal." Kitty said sympathetically and Kitty's friend walked next to her giving Bobby a weak smile.

"Maybe you should try another dance, when you don't have Ray helping you look like a fool and when there isn't a girl hanging on your arm." Amara suggested as she threw a light grey jacket at him. "Or maybe you can just give that to her tomorrow?"

Catching the jacket Bobby stared silently at Jubilee's friends. Surprised that they seemed to be still encouraging him to pursue her despite obviously hearing her rejection. He said nothing and just smiled weakly back at them as they continued to walk away.

"Besides Bobby…" Kitty yelled from down the hall as they turned the corner. "She really doesn't dance."

Bobby beamed as he clenched the jacket in his hand. He sure was going to make sure he had another chance with Jubilee.
