Dancing Shoes
Chapter Twenty-Three
Last Chance by Kaskade & Project 46

AN: So… I still get reviews on this story, and I have people telling me to just finish it. I have been inactive for such a long time, and then today I actually sat down and read a fanfiction for once in forever. It was shipping a different couple, and then I checked my e-mail and I saw that yet another person had commented. So, here you guys go.

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. Duh.

To describe to someone what it's like to die isn't an easy task. Especially not for her, she had never excelled at the whole describing thing. In all honesty she had died that night, she didn't remember the pressure of his lips on her cold ones. She didn't remember the paramedics picking her up and putting her into the ambulance. She didn't remember the rough ride to the hospital. She did remember the painful shock to her chest. She remembered her senses rushing back to her. They had all moved with such a speed that it had shocked her.

She just remembered the painful sting in her chest. Like someone was shocking her continuously. After the first initial shock, it was like everything was put into fast forward. And as each of her senses came back to her all she wanted to do was cry. She could hear the wailing of the medical instruments that surrounded her and the people crying and talking softly. All she wanted was for it all to just stop. She didn't want to open her eyes and face the very things that she had ran from for the past god knows how long.

"Sakura…"

She heard him walk into the room before he spoke, she knew that he thought that she was still asleep. He wasn't anything to her, all he was, was some guy that she happened to ride every now and then. She wanted to open her eyes and her mouth and tell him where to go shove it. She didn't want this, she didn't want to deal with any of this. What part of leave her alone did people not seem to get? She knew what she had done, she knew that they knew that she was high when they brought her in. She had heard the nurses speaking, she knew that the moment she woke up they would give her a one way ticket to the fifth floor where all the mental patients resided. She wasn't mental… at least she didn't think so. She had a choice in her life… didn't she?

"I'm sorry I never noticed before. I should have known. I had someone close to me once who didn't want to live. I know we only had a few encounters, and I never really got to know you."

His voice was so soft and smooth. Somewhat like what she thought chocolate would sound like if it had a voice. She could feel the warmth of his hand as he engulfed hers. Of course the cute guys would have a lovely voice and be ridiculously warm. He wasn't saying anything that she hadn't ever heard before. It was always this way. Every male that she had ever encountered or even slept with had always been the same way. She was too much to handle for longer than a few months. This guy never even got to know her and was the one who found her barely alive. He was the one who breathed life right back into her and called the paramedics so that she could breathe once again.

"But if you make it out of this, I'll be waiting for you. You've got to survive, this is your chance to change your life, and if you need it, I'm willing to be there with you while you figure it out. I owe you that much."

He was willing to do that? Willing to work it all through with her? Why didn't she believe him?

Itachi let go of her pale lifeless hand. She was cold to the touch and from what the nurses had told him she hadn't woken up yet from her coma. They said that she should be waking up at any moment and that it was her choice on whether or not she wanted to wake up. He couldn't really blame her, she apparently had a pretty vicious addiction for the past couple years and everyone was beating themselves up because no one had even noticed it. He had watched from a distance as her brother screamed and pitched a fit to his blue haired girlfriend because he never noticed. He never understood why he didn't notice.

Hell even Itachi himself didn't notice what was going on. Turns out that she had been getting her stash from one of his cousins that had been evading the law for quite some time. It had all come to light a few days after she had been taken to the hospital and he had tried to visit her. The nurses didn't recognize him so they had called security, turns out the idiot had been holding so he was arrested on the spot.

Really the only person who had even noticed that Sakura had a problem had been her cousin Hana. The lavender haired girl had went through hell trying to get people to notice that her friend wasn't okay, she had even went through the motions to date his cousin. The girl had balls, or at least that's what he thought.

After the initial shock of finding her best friend half dead, her and his cousin had made up from whatever fight they had been in and had stuck together ever since. And he couldn't help himself from laughing when he heard that she had told off Shisui's father. It must run in the family, cause he could easily see Sakura telling someone off for the same thing.

Sasuke and Naruto had visited her also, but they hadn't been able to stay in the room long, because that was when Sakura's mother had showed up. To say that the woman was pissed off was a complete understatement. Her and Nagato had argued relentlessly for an hour or two about what was going to be done with Sakura. Itachi had barely gotten any time with her, the most was those few minutes that he just had with her. Hana though, had been practically living in her room. She only left when visiting hours were up, that was when they all either slept in the waiting room down the hallway or went home to continue on with their daily lives.

He hadn't been able to sleep for the past couple weeks. I mean how could he? He had almost left her to die. Seemed ridiculous to even say that sentence out loud but really, in the end that was the truth. He ignored all the warning signs that he always swore that he would recognize. He was a class act that was for sure.

Stuffing his hands in his black hoodie he left the hospital room and made his way towards the elevators, a blank look on his face the entire time. He wasn't going to let the world know that this had really fucked him up.

"Saki-chan."

Her conscious lit up as she instantly recognized the voice. She wanted to open her eyes and greet her but she still couldn't bring herself to do it. The past week her brother and his girlfriend had visited her, her mother had screamed at her and then cried about how she failed at parenting, she really couldn't blame her there. She did fail at it. Even Shisui had visited her, along with Sasuke, Naruto and Hinata. Ino had even made a small appearance even though she didn't really remember it that well. That was before she had really woken up, the smell of fresh flowers had got to her and she had known instantly who it had been. Even her dance teacher had stopped by, but she hadn't spoken to her. She had only stopped by to inform her mother that Sakura was for sure out of the academy. She had missed crucial practices and she didn't need a drugged out dancer on her hands. Her mother had screamed and cried some more after that visit also.

All she wanted to do was just sleep forever, but every time she heard that deep rich voice and her best friends high pitched whisper she couldn't help but hold onto her reality just a bit longer. Every time she heard their voices she no longer wanted to pry open her bedroom window and fall out of it. She didn't want to wake up and hoard medicine so that she wouldn't ever wake up again. She was alive, she had fought through the darkness that had gripped her and all she wanted to do now was go right back into it. She wasn't saved. Not even in the slightest.

"They said that you are out of the danger zone, I know you are in there so please wake up."

She really didn't want to wake up, she wanted to go back to sleep. But she was on high alert and she couldn't help but want to open her eyes and see her cousins lavender hair just one more time. They had some good times together, before she had hit this road. She didn't even remember how she had gotten this far. It was like one moment everything was okay but then the next everything wasn't anymore.

"Itachi had said that he had been visiting you lately. I know you don't believe him, but I think you should. He's sincere. When he found you, I had never seen someone so freaked out."

So Itachi had been the one to save her. Why didn't that surprise her? He seemed to be this dark knight in shining armor. But she had learned a long time ago that if a knight had shining armor than he had absolutely no experience. He was a flower knight, a knight that had never experienced real battle.

"Please wake up. I will do anything to have you wake up and speak to me again. I'm seeing Shisui now… I don't know what to think of it really. His family is really judgmental, but you already knew about that."

She knew that they would end up together, even after she had slept with both Itachi and Shisui. Shisui had been smitten with her cousin from the moment he first laid his eyes on her. She really thought they were a brilliant couple, they complemented each other in ways that she had never seen. If anyone could get her crazy cousin to open up and actually understand life better it would be him. She felt the bed dip slightly as the weight of her cousin settled on the edge of the mattress.

"Please wake up."

"Sakura."

The Uchiha was at it once again, visiting her when he wasn't really wanted. Maybe he was a little bit wanted, lately all she could think about was the way his body had felt pressed against hers, and the way that after a while he knew exactly where to press to get an excited moan out of her. Oh and when he smiled, it was glorious. You know when you meet someone who never smiles at anything, they just have that stoic blank face every day, no in between. You actually start to think that they don't have the ability to smile. But then you would go and do a stupid thing like run into a wall or something and then their face just lights up with the most brilliant dimple infused smile to ever behold. That was how his smile was. He did have a habit of putting a little bit of brightness back into her life, just not enough to make her want to stop getting high.

"Sakura."

She could feel his long fingers fidget with hers, the warmth of them making her cold body burn just a little bit hotter. She really did miss him, and she missed her cousin. Her brother. Could she really leave everyone and not give anyone answers to why this had happened? Could she really trust him? She felt his body move a little bit closer to her, she could feel the heat of his breath against her ear.

"You are the person I'll never stop looking for in a crowded place."

And she opened her eyes.

END

AN: Sooooo… bad good? Is it the ending that you all have been wanting so bad for so long? Sorry I might have got some of the details wrong, I unfortunately didn't read the previous story before I read this. Just the chapter prior. Hey, don't hate. I finished it. :P I'm sure if you guys bother me enough I might post an epilogue.
