Dark Descent Chapter 5: Trouble around Every Corner
"What do you mean he escaped?!" Glynda Goodwitch shouted into a phone as she pinched the bridge of her nose before speaking again, "Well find him, this is a matter of importance that he is found and brought back here before something happens." She said before hanging up the phone and letting out a heavy sigh.
"Don't dwell too much on it Glynda. I'm sure that the boy is safe and sound. He is just scared as to what is going on." He said while looking at a monitor in front of him.
"Professor I do think this is something that we much attend to in a serious manner." She said knowing juts how Ozpin was when it came to certain things and when it came to this teenager that they found was the source of the negative energy he had neglected to put any guards or even have someone watching over him while he was resting.
Ozpin just took a sip from his cup before placing it down and folding them just in front of his mouth, "I do believe that he must be confused, waking up in a place he doesn't know and being attacked by Grimm while nearly dying would frighten anyone. Leave him be and in time he will come to us," He looked at the monitor with the image from a camera in the Emerald Forest as there was a large light that appeared out of the blue before the teenager fell onto the floor and seconds later he awoke, "But when you find him you are to monitor him and do nothing else less you deem it a matter in which you must. Digression is key to learning more about him." He told her as he turned his chair and saw an Airship taking off and heading towards Vale.
It hadn't been long since he had woken up, but it didn't take long for Emil to regain his composure and was trying to figure out what was happening.
He got up off the bed he was in and looked down at his body. He felt stiff and he was sore in some places but for the most of it he felt fine aside for the slight headache he had.
Emil had a hundred things running through his mind right now. Where was he? How did he get here?
He knew the reason for his body being bandaged but he thought that was just a dream, he let out a snort as it saw it wasn't just a dream. And he remembered what caused him to lose it before.
"Valentine…" She was dead. No she couldn't be, could she? He wondered to himself but put that aside as he wasn't thinking straight.
Looking around the room he knew instantly that he was in a hospital since he had been to many in the past for various reasons but this one felt different.
"Hmmm…there." He spotted a table to the side of the room with his clothes that were nearly folded on it.
He slowly got off the bed and walked over and inspected his things making sure that everything was in place as he took notice that his clothes were torn in various places and covered in dried blood.
"Can't wear these anymore." He said to himself as he looked down at his current wear. A plain white shirt and white pants, a normal patient attire but it would do for now.
Seeing as he had no idea want was going on or where he was. He opted for leaving the room. But he didn't want to leave his things so he searched around and found a bag which he put his things into and put on the pair of sandals that he had found and exited the room.
Peeking outside he saw it was more of a smaller hospital then he thought. There were other rooms that were spread along a long hallway and he was near the end of it all.
He could see a few people moving around and others in the same outfits as him so he thought since he was fine that he could move around.
It was a bit irritating since his body was still sore and the bandages he had on didn't help him at all.
He walked past a few people but didn't bother them since he noticed they were helping others at the moment so he headed for the front desk but just as he reached it he saw the lady sitting behind the desk was busy doing something but she spoke to him.
"Is there something I can help you with?" She asked and just as Emil was about to ask her, the phone next to her started ringing, "One moment please." She told him as she picked up the phone and her eyes opened up as she quickly hung up dialed another number.
"The patient in room 626 is missing. Send armed guards and call which ever staff is available to come and help find him. We need to find him before he gets out." She said into the phone before hanging up and looking up to find the person that was just standing there was no longer there.
Emil never moved so fast in his life. As soon as the woman behind the desk said that number he knew that it was him that they were talking about.
He was the patient in room 626.
In his mind he questioned why they needed to have armed guards to apprehend him and what was it that he did to make these measures.
He made it to a large corridor and looked around, his surroundings had changed from a hospital to that of a school.
"Just where the heck am I?" He asked himself as he heard this bell ring and the doors around him opened up to show this ground of people his age and older entering the hallway.
All of them had the same clothes on, a uniform which told him this was a school. But what kind of school has a hospital with armed guards in it?
Making his way through the crowd, he found it slightly uncomfortable since most of them were giving him these strange looks. Probably because of what he was wearing and his most of his arms were wrapped in bandages while his neck was too.
"Hey!" Emil while trying to avoid as much attention as possible mistakenly bumped into a larger student that was a few inches taller than himself. Immediately Emil got this familiar feeling of a jock as the guy eyed him up and down, "Watch where you're going you idiot" He shouted gaining some attention from the students around them take notice.
"I can't deal with this right now," He muttered under his breath and looked up to the guy, "Look sorry, I wasn't paying attention my bad." He told him while trying to walk past him but a hand on his shoulder stopped him from moving.
"Don't think I'm going to let you off that easily punk. Do you know who I am?" He asked as Emil swatted his hand away and glared him in the eyes.
"No, but do you know who I am?" He said with enough sarcasm that it made the larger teen irritated.
The larger teen let out growl as he grabbed a hold of Emil's collar pulling him closer as he got into his face.
"Don't push it nobody. I could beat you down in a second." He said with this look of confidence about him.
But Emil wasn't impressed. He had seen guys like this before. They thought they were untouchable.
Emil knew he was still weak but he had enough strength to grab the guys wrist and squeeze it hard enough that the guy winced and dropped Emil while letting out a small cry as his hand was being held in a death grip.
"I don't have time for this." Emil said before he felt another hand stopping him and he had barely ducked out of the way as this Blonde Mohawk guy threw a punch that was aimed right as his head.
"Don't thing were going to let you off that easily for messing with our team leader punk!" He declared while missing Emil who had moved back as the students that were surrounding them made room for them.
All the while Emil couldn't believe this was happening as he could feel the headache he had was growing.
"Listen, I don't want to fight. I don't even know why your leader is so worked up for. I said I was sorry what more do you want from me…" All of a sudden he felt off balance.
His vision went into double as he felt sick, he stumbled to regain his footing but he wasn't able to.
And seeing that he was stunned for some reason, the team leader took this chance to deliver a powerful strike right into Emil's stomach making him hunch over as he didn't expect such a cheap hit.
"What's the matter?" He said in a mocking tone as he watch Emil holding onto his stomach as he clicked his tongue, "Tch, all bark and no bite."
The students around them were saying a few things like should they help but no one did anything.
And for Emil he was confused as to why they didn't. Why?
"That is the real question isn't it?" Emil heard someone say but he didn't see anyone next to him, "Why are you letting someone like that push you around? Is this how stronger you are? Or is it that you are just weak." The voice said as Emil felt his headache going away as this strange feeling surrounded his body.
"I'm not weak…" He whispered out as he tried to get up but was pushed back down by the leader who just laughed at him.
"You know what, I almost feel bad for you. Maybe if you beg for mercy I'll let you go with a warning." He said in a snide tone that made the voice from before speak up again.
"Are you going to beg, just like you did before?" The voice asked as Emil had recalled something like this happening before.
He was on the ground before his father who was standing over him. The look of disappointment that Emil dreaded for all these years as it haunted him.
Without warning Emil got back up and rushed over to the leader who noticed this and just laughed as he threw a punch at Emil to try and stop him, the key word there being try.
Emil ducked under the fist as he knocked to the side throwing the larger off balance as he placed his palm on the guy's chest as he looked down trying to figure out what he was doing when this loud bang shook the ground as the larger teen went flying back crashing against his team as they all went down.
Emil didn't know what he just did but he looked down at his fist and saw that the black markings on his right hand were glowing through the ripped bandages.
He looked towards the team and saw their leader was out cold with a hole in his clothes just over his chest where Emil had touched him.
Confused as to what he just did, he remembered this feeling from when he was fighting back in the woods before, this feeling of power that had gathered around his hand and exploded on contact.
Without casting another look back he broke through the crowd that was confused as to what just happened.
And while he was trying to get as far away from there as possible, he couldn't help but wonder just what that voice he heard came from.
And it wasn't long after that a few guards had made their way at the word of a fight going on only to find that the fight was long over and the two that had fought were gone.
It didn't take long for Emil to find his way outside. Yes he still got these looks from the students around him but he just had to get away. He didn't know where he was still and despite going outside he didn't recognize anything.
He started to panic a bit as he didn't know where to go next when he felt someone tap his shoulder.
He turned around to see a teen with black hair and a purple streak over his left ear. His eyes were the same color as the streak and it struck Emil as strange. He had never seen someone with a light shade purple eyes before.
"Hi, excuse me for bothering you but you seem troubled." He said in a mellow tone that reminded Emil if someone he knew but he couldn't remember who.
But he chuckled a bit at his words, "Trouble is the least of my worries right now." Emil told him as he shook his head, "Sorry, today has been kind of a rough day for me." He told the stranger.
The guy seemed to nod his head, "I can relate." He said as they both shared a quick laugh before the black haired teen held out his hand, "Lie Ren."
"Emil Brunestud."
Ren looked Emil up and down, "Are you a transfer student?" He asked only Emil shook his head.
"No I…" Emil didn't know what to tell him. He just knew that he had woken up here after fighting these strange black creatures and then everything was a blur, "I really don't know." Emil told him and it was the truth.
Ren gave him a look before just smiling, "Don't worry about Beacon may seem intimidating from the outside but it is a fine school for young Hunters to come and learn at."
For a few minutes Ren explained few things that Emil was confused on. From where they were to what the school was about.
He was at a place called Beacon Academy. A place where Young people go to learn to be Hunters and Huntress that fight against Grimm, the same creature that he himself had fought against.
This went on until Ren's phone started to ring cutting him off, "I'm sorry but I have to cut this short. My team is calling for training." He told Emil who just nodded knowing that he couldn't just stay there and explain everything to him.
"It's fine, and thanks again Ren." He told the teen that held his hand out to him once more as Emil took it and shook.
"I have a feeling this won't be the last time we meet. So I won't say goodbye." Ren said as Emil couldn't help but feel this pain in his chest as Ren took his leave.
As Emil was heading for the docks that Ren had told him would take him the nearby city he looked back at Ren and felt something strange.
A few tears had fallen from his face as he watched Ren walking away and for a moment, he saw someone else walking in his place.
It was a man taller than him in a black outfit with these belts hanging off his elbows, and strangely enough he had white hair.
Emil couldn't explain but he felt that someone he once knew was gone, and he would never be able to see them again.
But then these words appeared in his mind.
"Keep moving forward." He didn't know why but those three simple words made him feel better as he wiped away the tears from his eyes and turned around and started to walk away without looking back.
"I'll keeping moving forward, for the both of us." He said to himself as he saw the small airship that people were entering, and he followed them in not knowing where he was going. But he knew that he would figure out where he was and what was happened to him.
Because one thing was certain to him, he wasn't on earth anymore. He knew this much from what Ren had told him and the things that he had seen up until now, and by just looking up at the moon above. It told him enough since it was shattered into pieces but still formed a crescent moon above.
As the airship took off, he took a seat near the back of the ship and leaned back into the chair as his eyes started to get heavy and soon he found himself asleep.
Only where he thought he would be safe, his dreams were just an illusion as he found himself standing in a large white room and cursed his luck as he had no idea what was happening now that is until he heard.
"Hello Emil, and welcome to your worst nightmare."

That scene with Ren made me cry a bit since I had originally had written Emil would cross paths with Ren but I added that little extra bit in memory and honor of the man that gave birth to this Fandom.
Rest easy Monty, the man that I never got to meet, but has influenced me so much.
