Grace POV
The next few days were hard. I had to bury my mother, stay strong for my family, and do it all while the whole country kept tabs on me. Dean stayed through the funeral, but had to fly back the next morning. I was glad he was here, but I needed time with my family. I was flying back in a few days.
"Thank you for being here." I told Justin when we got back to my father's house.
"You're welcome. You want to go sit in the swings?" he asked me and I smiled.
We walked out to David's swing set and sat on it. I remember doing this before life got complicated.
"You know that Dean knows about our past?" Justin asked me and I sighed.
"Yeah, he over heard me telling Paige." I said and Justin nodded.
"He didn't threaten me, but he doesn't trust me." he said and I felt bad. I didn't want Justin to get caught in the middle of me and Dean's problems. We didn't have problems, but I didn't want any to occur either.
"I'm sorry. I trust you." I said and smiled at him.
"Thanks. I have missed you." he said and I nodded. I longed for life to go back to the normalcy it used to bring to me. I missed playing gigs, having Justin always around, and my mom telling me to always be better.
We sat outside with June and David as they came out a little while later. I missed my family and it made it all that much harder to go back.
Dean POV
I arrived back and my mother was happy to see me. I had no doubt that father was still pissed I had left. I walked into his study and he glanced at me over the book he was looking at.
"You're back. You have things to do. Go." he said and I nodded. He spoke more words than I had expected him to. I went to my room and sat on the bed.
"Is she alright?" a voice asked me and I turned to see the servant standing there.
"She is." I said and she smiled at me. I knew that everyone in the palace, with the exception of father, cared for Grace. I even had a feeling that they all wanted her to win.
Grace POV
I boarded the plane two days later back to the palace. I knew that the King hated me. Justin had even confirmed it.
"Should I just give up?" I asked Justin and he shot me a look.
"Don't give into them. They have tried to change you at every step… don't give in now." he said and I knew that he was right.
"Thanks, Justin." I said and he smiled at me.
I arrived back and was greeted by the other girls. I still felt weird that Brie wasn't here anymore. I missed her. I went to my room where Paige and Tamina hugged me. I was glad to see them as well.
"We are sorry." Paige said and I smiled at them.
"Thank you." I said as Tamina took my coat.
"You want a bath?" Tamina asked me and I nodded. She and Paige set to work as a knock came to the door. I stopped them from answering it and opened it. Seth was standing there.
"You are needed downstairs." he said and I looked back at them. I left with Seth and we went to the main doors. I saw Dean, Justin, and 3 people I didn't know. I did recognize the girl from the woods. I was surprised they had just walked up to the doors.
"They want to talk to us." Dean said and I nodded.
"Why me?" I asked him.
"I'm not sure, but they wanted to speak to both of us about the treaty." he said and I was unaware they even had a treaty.
"I'm not sure what help I will be." I said as Dean smiled at me.
We walked over to them and they main leader and the girl followed up to a small table. I wasn't surprised to see Stephanie serve us tea. She winked at me before walking away. I knew she had something to do with this.
"We want a treaty and help you fight against the other rebels." the guy said and Dean nodded.
"We would like that, but what do you have to offer?" he asked him.
"We will follow you." he said and Dean nodded.
"And you didn't offer this to my father… because?" he asked them.
"He would of had us shot on sight, plus we know he won't go for the second term." the girl said and she smiled at me. I felt myself return the smile. I gave her a cup of tea and she smiled bigger.
"Which is?" Dean asked them.
"You have to choose her." the girl said and I was shocked.
"Ok… we can do that." Dean said.
"I want sometime to discuss this with you first since it does involve me." I said and the guy looked at the other girl. They seemed shocked at this.
"We just thought that you were the obvious choice." he said and I nodded.
"Thank you for the confidence, but it is my life. I can shoos to return to my other life." I said with carefully chosen words. I didn't want Dean to think I didn't want this, but I didn't want a decision about my life to be made without me.
"We will meet again next week." the guy said and Dean nodded in agreement. They left as quickly as they came and I still wasn't sure what had actually happened.
"Send tea to the library for Grace and myself." Dean said as he carefully pulled me along by the elbow. I really didn't feel like having any lengthy discussions about my life right now. I just wanted sleep.
