Teshka said:What if (BBC Verse) when Sherlock and John are in the train with the bomb Sherlock can't stop the bomb? I assume John would still say the same things but would Sherlock's "speech" change? :D

Sherlock's eyes began to fill with tears. "I can't...I can't do it, John. I don't know how...forgive me?"

John couldn't believe he'd forgiven him. He was his best friend, back from the dead, and now he'd gotten both of them killed and yet he forgave him. Maybe that's because that's what best friends do. The timer was counting down and John felt his heart fall as he realized he'd never see Mary in her wedding dress. Tears sprung to his eyes.

"John..."

The doctor looked up, even though he knew they were both going to die he was still surprised that Sherlock was crying. Sherlock didn't cry, not unless he was faking it to get information out of someone. Yet here he was with tears streaming from his eyes, clutching at his chest and staring at John like he was some kind of angel. "John I...it broke my heart...when I came back and saw that...saw that Mary did what I couldn't..."

"What's that?" John asked.

"...She told you she loved you." Sherlock sobbed. "I could never do that...I never could."

"What?" John took a deep intake of breath, he felt like he'd suddenly been dunked into ice cold water. The shock was intense. "Oh...oh, Sherlock."

"You said I was the best and wisest man you'd ever known but, John, you're really the better man." Sherlock continued. "The bravest, kindest, most admirable human being I have ever met and you put up with me the whole time...I know I'm insufferable...and I suppose I thought that meant I had a chance but then I had to leave you and someone did what I couldn't..."

"Sherlock, come here." John knew they didn't have long left, so rather than keep the conversation going he just took Sherlock into his arms and kissed him. He tasted like tears, all salty and wet, and Sherlock kissed him back desperately. They both huddled together and braced for the blast...

...a blast that never came.

Both men looked at the bomb in puzzlement, the timer was frozen.

"Did you do that?" John asked.

"No I...I really didn't know how to switch it off..." Sherlock stuttered.

"But your brother did." A voice said. Both men looked up to see a stranger entering the train car. He wore a suit and an earpiece. "Mycroft Holmes sent me to escort you both back up to the surface."

Mary ran to John and he ran to her. They embraced and kissed and for a moment John forgot what it was like to kiss Sherlock.

Sherlock was standing next to his brother, watching the couple with a pained expression.

"I always told you not to get involved." Mycroft sighed. "Yet still...I feel sorry for you."

"You let me go down there, even though you planned to handle it this whole time." Sherlock glared at his feet and clenched his fists.

"Some things need to be said, brother." Mycroft put a hand on Sherlock's shoulder, looking rather uncomfortable with the display of affection. "Even the most painful things..."
