Lacy yawned and took in a breath of the crisp evening air as she stood outside of the coffee shop. After taking a couple days to make her choice of whose heart she was going to crush into a million tiny pieces. Wow that sounded shallow as hell, but she decided that was she was going to have to be for a while. Those shallow girls that everyone hated, but still somehow loved, seemed to break a heart literally every day. It was something Lacy would never understand, but it was also something she would have to try.
She had chosen the tallest of the two hipsters- Jeremy- and prayed to God this would work. She had spent the day going through her new clothes and found, what she had hoped, would be the perfect outfit. She didn't want to appear too shallow, or downright bitchy, but more like 'too cool to care'. So she chose a grey knitted sweater, a soft pink skirt, grey leggings and a pink fur boots along with simple make up; pink lip gloss, extremely light grey eye shadow and mascara. Then to top it off, she decided to put her hair in loose curls. She felt like a totally different person, and to be honest, she almost liked it.
It was like for once in her horrid, boring life she could have some excitement! But she was not about to forget this was all an act, and that by next month she would hopefully be back to herself. Hopefully. Even if Lacy somewhat enjoyed being this…façade girl, she really couldn't imagine being like this the rest of her life, and really didn't want.
She huffed, was this mixed feelings day or something? Looking at her watch she stiffened, it was five-thirty; Jeremy would be here literally any second. Oh god what was she going to say?! And what tone of voice was she supposed to use? Happy? Cheerful? Cool? Innocent? Oh my god she could NOT DO THIS!
"Hey Lacy," A voice sounded beside her,
"Oh hey Jeremy!" She chirped automatically. Jeremy smiled warmly,
"I'm really glad you called, I wanted to get to know you better." Lacy smiled back, taking half a second to contemplate her answer,
"Aw thank you! I'm flattered!" She slightly giggled, faking a blush. He held out his arm for her to take, which she did and they went inside.
Lacy had never really been one for coffee, when she was born it was meant to be something to wake the men up for work and tasted horrible. But over the course of time it had become a treat to young adults with artificial flavors and fancy toppings. Lacy noticed a while back that most everything in the world had become artificial.
The pair walked up to the counter where a young man stood reading a magazine, but quickly put it away when he saw them standing there. He smiled brightly,
"May I help you?" Jeremy looked at Lacy, waiting for her to order first. Like Lacy said, she had never been one for coffee so the choice was a little difficult. But after a brief moment of pondering she said,
"I'll have the Café miel, low fat and soy milk please." The guy wrote now the order on his notepad then asked,
"And for you, sir?"
"Hm, I guess I'll just take a simple iced caramel latte, extra whip cream." Yep, that was simple. After Jeremy paid for the drinks the couple- if you could call them that- sat down at a booth.
"So Lacy," Jeremy started, "you said you live in New York, right?" She smiled slightly and nodded,
"Yes, half a block away from Times Square actually." It was true, for years she had lived in that apartment and she had always admired how beautiful the lights were. At night they would shine brightly with advertisement and videos. Shops line the streets, not just any little shops, big ones, sometimes ten floors high!
"That's so cool, I've only been there once, class trip. It's really nice up there, how long did you live there?" Jeremy was indeed impressed.
"About seven years, it's where I went to High School there. All girls private school." Lacy took a small sip of her coffee, not bad, but still not her cup of tea.
"Really?" He questioned, "What did you major in after you graduated?"
"I actually have a photography degree," and there lie number one, but she supposed it didn't matter. After all this wasn't going to last long anyway, what would a few lies matter? Jeremy gave a charming smile,
"Impressive, not that I'm surprised, you're a girl of many talents." Was he serious? Honestly? She had a slight feeling that she wasn't the only one who would be lying on this date. Either way Lacy smiled back and batted her eyelashes,
"Oh I wouldn't say that!"
"But it's true," he said nonchalantly, "If you ask me, you're talents are being wasted at that park." Lacy raised an eyebrow,
"Oh really?" Jeremy nodded,
"Besides, that place is full of losers, not a place for someone like yourself." Oh he did notjust go there! As much as she wanted to stand up, defend her friends, slap this jerk and leave, she kept herself composed and coolly took a sip of her coffee.
"I suppose, but a job is a job, so I can't complain."
"True, but I know a guy who runs a photography business," he slid a card across the table, "I feel that you would be more appreciated there." Picking up Lacy slightly panicked on the inside. Jesus did she just lie herself into a bad situation? She took a quick moment to think, she had faced worse things than this, she would just have to lie herself out.
"I'll think about it, I don't like getting into serious job arrangements. I like to travel around too much." Leaning back, she put the card in her grey Louis Vuitton hand bag- don't ask what she had to do to get that...- and gave him a sly smile. Hook, line, and sinker.
Mordecai and Rigby were sitting on the couch playing video games, as usually, when Lacy came through the door.
"Sup Lacy?" Mordecai said glancing away from the T.V.
"Yes, hello Lacy, if that's even your real name!" Rigby said throwing down his controller. Both Mordecai and Lacy were taken aback, but Lacy soon recovered and gave him a weird look,
"I can assure you, Rigby, that Lacy is my real name and hello to you too."
"Seriously dude! What the heck is your deal?" Mordecai asked with an annoyed tone.
"You know what my deal is! She's a murder that lies! I bet she goes from town to town changing her appearance and then kills someone off!" Lacy blinked, unsure of what to say and Mordecai groaned,
"You cannot be serious." Rigby motioned to her, or more like her clothes,
"It's all ready happening! She's never dressed like that before! I'm telling you dude, she's ev-" Mordecai elbowed him, highly ticked off. Lacy rolled her eyes and crossed her arms,
"Right. The one hundred pound girl is going to kill someone. For your information, I had a date." Rigby was silent for a moment, then asked,
"Who would want to date you?" Mordecai's mouth dropped and looking at Lacy he could tell she was highly offended.
"Excuse me you little ignorant- Last time I checked girls aren't exactly falling to their knees for you!" Without much of another word she stormed up the stairs and the guys heard her door slam. All was quiet until Mordecai elbowed Rigby again.
"OW! Dude quit it!" Rigby whined.
"You are the worst sometimes! What is wrong with you man?" Mordecai couldn't believe that Rigby would say that, even if it was Rigby. Rigby threw his arms up in frustration,
"What's wrong with you? You act like she's some nice girl, but she's not!"
"No dude, you just haven't taken the time to treat her like a friend and get to know her. Instead you prefer to jump to conclusions and make her an enemy." He started to walk out the door, "I'm going to hang out with Muscle Man and High-Five, they're not jerks unlike some people." He closed the door. Rigby groaned. He'd messed up.
