The Truth in Time (Reunited AU) - Chapter 8 - Hell'o' Again - Part 3
The zeppelin had almost reached them and Clara had gotten up and gathered Janie. They could still hear the Angels pounding on the door. The Doctor had stayed right by Rose's side, but now he was watching the door. He should have been watching Rose… Underneath her jacket a golden light began to shine around the wound from the Auton shooting her. That light grew stronger and stronger, slowly floating out from the edges of the jacket and wrapping around her. The Doctor's attention was caught when she began floating slightly and felt heat around the hand that rested on her left arm. He turned to see the golden light lifting her and consuming her torso and flooding from her eyes and mouth into her hair. It had captured both the Doctor and Clara in a daze.
Rose floated to a standing position and her hand was held out. The golden light opened the door, seemingly at Rose's command, and the Weeping Angels disappeared in a haze of the light. The zeppelin arrived overhead and Rose slowly floated to the ground. When her feet touched she collapsed being caught by the Doctor.
From the zeppelin came 2 ladders and an emergency basket. On the first ladder was Jake in his stuffy grey suit and a Torchwood soldier. On the other ladder were 2 more soldiers who quickly hopped off and shoved the Doctor out of the way to grab Rose and put her in the basket. The other soldier hopped off and followed Jake who went to the Doctor and Clara. The soldier, a young woman, with Jake spoke to Clara, "Mam' if I could. I need to take the little miss with Miss Tyler." Clara made no point of resistance since it seemed these people were on Rose's side.
Jake extended his hand to the Doctor, "Jackson Pink, sir. Nice to meet you." The Doctor shook his hand hesitantly. "John. John Smith, this is Clara my good friend." Jake looked a bit taken aback. "R-right if you two would please follow me. Ms. Clara you can ride in the basket with Ms. Tyler," Clara feeling this was more of a command then a suggestion and did so but kept eyes locked on the Doctor for any signal of danger. "but Mr. Smith I'm afraid there's not enough room so if you could hop on the ladder with Andrea and I it would be greatly appreciated. We will get you out of here and back to civilization." The Doctor nodded and followed staying quiet until they were on the zeppelin.
It didn't take long for them to be hoisted into the zeppelin. A team of what seemed to be medical professionals swarmed around the basket lifting Rose and Janie out. One soldier escorted Clara quite roughly to the Doctor, whose attention was taken by watching Rose. "Oi! Hands off! I can walk myself, thanks very much!" The Doctor turned with a dark expression. "Let her go. She's no threat you." The soldiers backed off and left them in a corner with the first soldier, Andrea. "Doctor, what's going on? Who are these people?" Clara asked quietly. "Torchwood. Earth's 'defense' against alien life." The Doctor was bitter with his words and seemed as if he would likely attack something very soon. "A-and who is that Rose woman?" The Doctor returned his gaze to Clara and sighed. "A friend. A friend from a very long time ago…"
Just a moment later a chunky blond woman rushed up to them. "Thank you for saving my daughter and granddaughter. I wish I had the time to talk and thank you properly but I must go check on them." "Wait!" The Doctor spoke quickly. "Jackie, please wait. Let me see her." Jackie turned around with a look of confusion. "How do you know my name?" She came closer to them once again and looked at the Doctor curiously until she saw his eyes. It didn't take her long to recognize the age in his eyes. A hand went flying for his face, smacking him loudly across his left cheekbone. "Ow! Jackie! What was tha' for?!" She slapped him again on the other cheek. Now he was hold his face with both hands and backing away from her slightly. "'Bout time someone other than me, slapped his stupid face." Clara laughed. "That's for my daughter! Who you," She poked him fiercely in the chest. "left behind!" Jackie turned and stomped away towards the room they had taken Rose into.
Clara turned and stared blankly at the Doctor. "What does she mean left behind?" The Doctor took a deep breath and sat down on a bench attached to the wall. "I had no other choice and the second time it was her decision." Clara started down at him with a little bit of pity when two more soldiers came up behind. Andrea, who had been standing by guarding them, spoke, "Mam', Sir, we've reached the civilian drop off. I require you to take these pills and exit the ship now." The Doctor got up quickly and shoved the pills away from his face. "No way! You are not going to Retcon me and just leave us. Not in a million years and even for me that's a long time from now! I'm not leaving this ship till I see Rose and talk to her." The soldiers pushed them back.
Jackie walked back up with Janie in her arms. "Wait. Stand down. Andrea this man can stay. He's an… acquaintance." "What about the girl mam'?" Clara spoke up and stepped in front of the Doctor. "I'm not going anywhere without him." "Doctor? Friend of yours?" Jackie asked accusingly. "Yes, well no, but yes. I think. No! Yes! Uh, what was that word you used?... Acquaintance. Yes that." Both Jackie and Clara laughed at him slightly before Jackie signaled for the two to follow her.
They came to a room with an entire glass wall. The Doctor and Clara looked in seeing Rose being worked on by several doctors and nurses, one who looked oddly familiar. Jackie spoke quietly, "There's not much they can do for her other than seal up everything and pump fluids and blood. She changed. After you left the first time. Doctor, she changed. Not just her personality, but her body. They don't know how to care for her when she's like this. They don't know how to care for either of them." She came around in front of the Doctor with Janie sleeping against her shoulder. "This is Janie. Janelle Hope Tyler and before you ask, no she's not mine. She's Rose's. Doctor, I need you to help them. Please." The Doctor stood silently looking between Janie and what little he could see of Rose. Clara put her hand on his shoulder supportively. She whispered to him quickly, "I don't know who they are to you, but you obviously care. Do your best and worry about everything else later." With that Clara stepped back and began talking to Andrea quietly, trying to learn more about her and this Torchwood.
"Jackie, let me in to see her please." Jackie nodded and opened the door. "Alright you lot, out you go. Give me some time with my daughter and stop your silly experiments." Everyone ran out of the room, slightly scared at the fury of Jackie Tyler they knew was coming out. After everyone had cleared the room the Doctor apprehensively got closer to Rose until he was standing by her head. "Hello again."
