A/N: Sorry Readers! I know I am late updating. It basically came down to me wanting to watch the finale before submitting my chapter and then the finale changed everything I was going to do in my story. I think the creators of the Originals just nailed it and I immediately saw a whole new plot for my story. So basically everything that happened in the last few episodes of the Originals is in my story. I am also seriously considering putting in some Elijah/Hayley scenes because I just love their chemistry on the show. This isn't as long as my other chapters but I'm setting up part two of this story.

As always please review!

Chapter 12

Caroline had been running towards him all night. It had been almost eight months since she had last seen him, touched him. She had been told to avoid roads into the French Quarter and the woods were getting thicker, slowing her pursuits. Caroline let her senses out, checking for danger. Someone was walking towards her. She maintained human speed walking slightly southwest, away from the eyes of any human.

The person diverted his course with her, and she felt the imminent sense of danger. Maybe this wasn't a human after all. He was gaining on her and she walked faster, cursing herself in the process. She had to think quickly, he was almost on top of her.

"Hi!" she exclaimed, and her pursuer eyed her warily. "I am so sorry to bother you but I think I'm a little lost, well a lot lost." She let out a huge human sigh. "Do you know how to get out of here?" She smiled pleadingly and moved closer to the man. He was in his early twenties with a darker complexion, there was something familiar about his eyes, she just couldn't place it. She moved towards him and began her compulsion. "I want you to keep moving. You never saw me here tonight, you went for a walk in the woods and saw no one on your way."

The man smiled at her, and Caroline's stomach dropped, "That's a nice sentiment, but no vampires are allowed to enter the Quarter," his eyes yellowed further and Caroline realized why they were familiar; he was a wolf. Fuck. She glanced towards the night sky and saw the pale crescent moon barely lighting the sky. The wolf's eyes gleamed brighter and she could see fangs amongst his teeth. "Wait a minute…. How are you-?"

He interrupted her, "No vampires are allowed to enter the Quarter. Or if they enter, they are not allowed to leave breathing." And he lunged towards her. She began fighting him off, laying a punch onto his face but his goal wasn't her throat or her heart, he just wanted his fangs to puncture. He bit down on her forearm and she screamed in agony. He was venomous. She grabbed his chin and snapped his neck.

She let the wolf settle to the ground, breathing heavily, she looked at her arm and saw the decayed skin that surrounds a werewolf bite. Then Caroline felt the weight of his death wash over her. "Every time I come here I end up killing someone." Caroline said to herself, she started working. She needed to cover her tracks. No one could know that she was here, so she buried the wolf.

Klaus was sitting in his room. He had just met with Marcel, it had been five months since he had given away his daughter, since the wolves had turned on his family. Hayley was a wreck. She hadn't taken transitioning well. Elijah was in the process of doing everything he could to help her deal with her grief, with her knew life, but he was failing.

Klaus was slowly preparing to move against the wolves. Marcel had advised him to take things slow, gaining allies instead of enemies. He was putting on a good face for the new vampires across the river. And they were new. He, Marcel, and Elijah had been creating baby vamps quickly and efficiently. Building an army to fight the Guerrera wolves. They were species truly divided now, no one trusted anyone else. The vamps and wolves were at war and the witches were going to be next. The people of this town will pay for their part in his child's near murder.

Klaus' hope is that the slower and smarter he approaches his revenge, the safer New Orleans' will be for his daughter. She will return.

He heard a clamor below in the foyer. He felt a woman entering his home. Probably Camille, he thought, she had been oddly helpful in his endeavors of late. He heard a voice calling his name…. it wasn't Camille.

Caroline had used all of her strength to bury the wolf and move undetected through the Quarter. Every human that passed by her was inches away from death. She was famished and wanted to feed. It took her greatest strength to resist. She fought two vampires on guard in front of the mansion she had called home for those few weeks, knocking them out instead of killing them. She didn't want to anger Klaus further. She was exhausted, and thirsty, and dying. She managed to walk inside the mansion and call out Klaus' name before collapsing to the floor.

She was struggling to get up when she felt strong arms around her. Klaus had lifted her into a seated position. "Caroline, what's wrong with you?" She heard him ask concern flowing through his voice. She was about to answer when Elijah and Hayley came into the room staring inquisitively at her. "Hey guys." Caroline muttered. She turned, eyelids drooping, towards Klaus. "A werewolf bit me." Klaus was already moving his wrist towards his mouth, biting his skin to heal her, but she kept talking, "he bit me and it isn't a full moon. How the hell can he do that? He wasn't a hybrid because I killed him, but how could he—?" Klaus moved his wrist to her mouth and silenced her mutterings.

He looked at Elijah, "Perhaps, brother, you should go find this dead werewolf and take care of him."

Caroline broke away, blood clung to her lips, she spoke more coherently than before "I buried him already, don't bother yourself Elijah. Its why it took so long for me to get here." She leaned back against Klaus. "It was in the woods…. Oh I also knocked out the guys guarding your house. I didn't kill them because I thought you might be mad." Klaus nodded at Elijah and the Original moved out into the night, Hayley following close behind him.

Caroline was confused, "I told him not to go! I did a good job, I buried him so good." She leaned against Klaus' shoulder more. She was incoherent. She had had such a long journey she just wanted to sleep, she wanted answers, she was all over the place.

Klaus smiled, inhaled her scent and moved to pick her up. "I am sure you did a terrific job burying the wolf. But there are things that wolf has we need. In the future if you kill a wolf you need to take the stone that he has. It's like your daylight ring, but it's black."

"Daylight ring but black." Caroline nodded and looked around. She was coming in and out of consciousness. He had moved them into his room, set her down on the bed and smiled. He liked having her back in his bed. In his world where everything was wrong, this felt right. He leaned down and kissed her on her forehead. "Sleep tonight love, I am sure we have a lot to discuss in the morning. "

Caroline woke up feeling confused but safe. She was surrounded by Klaus' scent, like the woods, and blood, and fire; musky and male. She hadn't planned on last night going the way that it did. She had planned on being done with a few things by now. It never seems to go the way she thinks it will.

At that moment, Klaus walked into his room and leaned against the post of his bed. "Hello there, Caroline." He smiled. She missed it. His smile. "I think you have a story to tell me." She looked down at her arm where she had been bitten the night before. "You first." She countered.

"Okay, love. Lets get you some breakfast and I'll tell you a story." He reached his hand out to her. When her fingers entwined with his she felt her entire body tingle. The sight of him was making her forget herself, her purpose. But she knew him, and she wanted to know about the wolves before she told him why she was back.

He took her downstairs to the spread of pastries and poured her a glass of blood before beginning his tale. He started just after she left. Hayley had connected with her wolf line and the witches were coming to attack his then unborn child. In order to protect Hayley, he made a deal with the wolves that belonged to his and hers family lines. Klaus promised them rings which would stop them turning at the full moon. Giving them full use of certain werewolf capabilities, speed, strength, a deadly bite to a vampire, even without the power of the moon.

He moved into the story of his child's birth, which was happening simultaneously, the witches tried to kill his baby and Hayley turned into a hybrid, there was so much to tell that Caroline was completely immersed. She didn't notice when Hayley had entered the room, arms folded, tears in her eyes. Klaus glanced up at her, jarring Caroline out of the story.

Hayley moved towards Caroline, "I just wanted to give you this. You dropped it on your way in." Caroline grabbed quickly at the oversized purse that Hayley was holding out to her. It had been her only bag on her journeys and she hadn't let it out of her sight for eight months. Hayley started to leave but Caroline called out to her. "Wait! I have something for you." She grabbed a steak knife from the place settings on the table and sliced into the lining of her bag. Hayley looked at her like she was insane. Oh well, Caroline thought, she will thank me in a minute. She took a cell phone out of the lining of her purse, turned it on, tapped on the back of it while she was waiting for the lock screen to show up. She typed in the code then clicked on an application.

Hayley was waiting there confused and slightly annoyed, until Caroline handed her the phone. Tears welled in her eyes and she put her hand to her chest. Her voice was quivering with tears when she gasped out "Klaus." He jumped up to Hayley and stared at the phone in her hand. He gasped softly and looked up at Caroline who was respectfully glancing away from the two hybrids. He looked back at the screen and said, "You've seen her."

Caroline looked up at this man who was so terrifying and powerful. A tear fell down his face. She smiled at him sadly, "Your daughter is so beautiful."
