Ventus yawned. Stretched. He grumbled lightly as he realized he'd woken up in the middle of the night for no real reason. Granted, it wasn't because of any night terrors, but he still wanted to get a somewhat decent sleep. He sighed and rubbed his eye, "I guess I've just slept a little too much to just sleep a night through."
He rolled over towards his window with a smile, "Nice to be home, though." Ven sat up and rested his arms on the windowsill, drinking in the misted mountains of his home. He'd dreamt of them over the course of his long sleep. He dreamt of a lot of what he was experiencing now. Him, Terra, and Aqua, all together again. No Xehanort, no Vanitas, no X-Blade, no anything to keep them from living out their friendship in peace.
Ventus sat up and blinked. He pushed himself against the glass, "No way..." He grinned, "A meteor shower!" He threw off his blanket and ran out to the hall, pjs and all. "Man, I gotta tell Terra and Aqua!" he laughed.
Aqua, meanwhile, was snuggling with Terra. She was peacefully nestled in the crook of his arm and neck and deep in slumber. Terra, on the other hand, was a snoring lump of sleep. Still, he smiled as he clutched Aqua like a teddy bear.
"Terra! Aqua!" Ventus blew into the room, "Guys! Guys guess what!" Ven put his hands on the edge of their bed and bounced excitedly, "Guess what!"
Aqua moaned and rolled over with an arm flopping across her face, "I dunno Ven... What."
"A meteor shower!" Ventus whispered with a squeak of excitement, "Shooting stars! A nighttime light show!"
"Mmmhhhhmmm." Aqua mumbled, "Tha's nice Ven... Let us sleep."
"But Aquaaaaaa!" Ventus whined and bounced against her bed more, "Come on! It's just like last time!"
That woke Aqua up. Her eyes widened and her body went rigid with triggered memory. Her stiffening woke up Terra, who proceeded to hug her a little closer with a yawn, "Wha's wrong hun?"
Aqua snuggled up closer to him, "Nothing." She smiled and scooted up to peck his cheek, "Ven says there's a meteor shower."
Terra yawned again and stretched his arm, "Great Ven..."
"What I was thinking was we could go out and see it! Just like old times." Ventus said. He knew Terra and Aqua couldn't see it, but he pouted anyways as he ran his finger in a small circle along some folds in Terra and Aqua's blanket.
"Just like old times?" Terra asked, finally deciding to blearily open his eyes and sit up a little, "Gosh we haven't..." He yawned again, "We haven't done that since..." Either he wanted to avoid the topic, or his half asleep state caused him to forget, "Things."
Ventus nodded, "And that's exactly why I want to do it." He pulled puppy dog eyes and smiled, "Come on, please?"
Terra was still waking himself up as he observed Ven. Gosh he really wanted to sleep but if this kid was good he figured he'd be too, "Okay, let me and Aqua get dressed-"
"We can just go out in our pajamas, it's not too cold out." Ventus said as he began bouncing out of the room.
Terra yawned a little more and hugged Aqua, who'd already turned over face down into her pillow and drifted off, "Sure, we'll meet you out there..."
Ventus snapped his head back in, "I know you're trying to go back to sleep, Terra."
Terra grabbed a pillow they weren't using and tossed it in Ven's general direction, "We're not morning people...!"
Ventus watched it flop against the wall. He smirked at the harmless assault, then said, "Missed me!"
Terra sat up, and chucked his pillow at Ventus, "Fine you little imp!"
As Ventus staggered back from fluffy doom, Terra gently shook Aqua, "Come on, he's not gonna let us sleep..."
Aqua made a very unladylike grunt into her pillow that was probably a muffled curse. Terra chuckled and kissed the back of her neck, prompting her to snap her hand to it and laugh, "Terra!" She sat up and pulled up the bed sheet, "Okay, fine, I'm up." She sighed and rubbed her eyes, "And I was having such a good dream too..."
Terra tilted his head, "Oh really? What was it?"
Aqua smirked and let the bed sheet drop as she kissed him. "That." She explained as she backed away.
Terra rolled his eyes at her, then kissed her back.
Ventus knocked out "Shave and a Haircut", "Guuuyyyyyyssss. Come on we gonna- EWUGH!" He quickly turned away, "GET A ROOM!"
Aqua backed off suddenly, blushing and pulling the bed sheet back up, "V-Ventus! I thought you were outside already-"
"Dude, it's OUR room you keep barging into." Terra sighed with a hint of smugness as he got out of bed to throw on some suitable clothes for a nighttime expedition.
Ventus turned tail and went down the hall, "F-fine I'll meet you guys out there!"
...
Terra was clad in a baggy maroon shirt and boxers and Aqua was wearing a mauve camisole and dark shorts when they shuffled out of the castle. They found Ventus doing cartwheels in the courtyard in front of the steps to apparently aid in his boredom. His shirt was ruffled from being tumbled over and over. He pouted at them and tapped his foot, "There you two are!"
Terra smacked Ven's shoulder, "Nice to see you're unaffected by sleep deprivation."
Ventus laughed and stuck out his tongue. The three chatted away as they took a meandering route to the best spot to view the meteor shower, giving themselves time to wake up and time to let everything settle in.
It was... Surreal as they sat down on the same cliff they'd rested on over ten years ago. The laughter and conversations slipped away as they realized where they were; Terra on the right, Ventus in the middle, Aqua on the left, everything unchanged except for their pajamas, and the scars on their hearts from the hurts of the past.
They sat there in silence for a good hour or so as they held hands and stared at the sky.
Ventus was the first to start crying, "I-I never thought..."
Aqua smiled; a tear streaked down her cheek, "... That we..."
Terra lifted his hand and wrapped it around Aqua and Ventus as the waterworks turned on for him, "Would ever see each other again..."
They looked at each other, teary and smiling. Aqua completed the circle Terra had began by wrapping her arm around her boys, and Ventus drew his friends in tighter.
"This is the first night we ever spent under the same stars."
