I'm so sorry for my 3 week absence, I got really busy with university. Anyway this is it! IT's finally the end and I want to thank everyone one last time for reading and reviewing. It mean's the world to me. This story was supposed to be something short and sweet and it turned out to be almost 90,000 words and it's all because of your support.
So please enjoy the final chapter of We Won't Get Caught, We Can't Get Caught:
When the two woke up the next morning Emily made Jason breakfast while he got ready for work. It was a strange feeling not to have to rush around. Once Jason got a quick shower and got dressed he joined Emily in the kitchen.
"I would have been fine with toast and coffee." Jason said before kissing the top of her head.
"I know but I'm bored."
"Already? You got a long day ahead of you." Jason said with a smile.
"I know." Emily sighed. "I guess I wasn't made for the unemployment life."
Jason let Emily sit down and brought over their plates. "Well I guess you better look for a job or something."
Emily thought for a second. She realized that she didn't know what she wanted to do. She felt like she was back in college staring blankly at the choice of courses. She had only ever wanted to work for the FBI. "I don't know what I want to do." She said finally.
Jason had been watching her as she thought in silence. It didn't take a genius to figure out what she wanted to do. "I do." Jason said.
"Oh really? Then why don't you share with the class?" Emily asked not bothering to hide the sarcasm.
"You want to go back to the BAU." Jason said confidently.
Emily rolled her eyes because of course he was right. "Yeah well we both know I can't. Not yet anyway."
"Well why don't you go to Hotch and ask if he knows of any other jobs with another team or something."
Emily nodded. "There's an idea, I knew I kept you around for some reason. I'll do that soon but not today."
"Tomorrow?" He probed.
"Next week." Emily said finally.
"Ok, but keep busy while I'm at work. I don't want to come home and see that you've died of boredom." Jason said getting up and walking towards the door.
Emily followed and watched him put on his boots and jacket.
"Bye baby."
"Bye Jase." She mumbled before he pulled her in for a kiss. It was a goodbye kiss that wasn't heart wrenching because he was going to be home in eight hours. Emily didn't know such a thing existed.
She closed the door behind him and was all alone in an empty house. Why was she alone so much? Worse yet she felt even lonelier than she actually was.
She lounged around with a terrified Sergio and tried to calm him down and reassure him that everything was fine. She picked him up and went through the house room by room to see what she was working with. For a single guy Emily had to admit he had pretty good taste. He didn't have any giant leather couches or many mismatched colors. A little touch here and there and everything would be perfect.
Finally she went out to the garage and looked at how it was piled high with her stuff. It would be pointless for her to move her stuff into Jason's house if she was going to get her own place soon.
Even though Jason had said she could stay in his house permanently Emily wanted to make sure he meant it. It had been a long, emotional, and exhausting day so she would ask him again when his head was a littler clearer.
After lunch she got a little nosey and looked through his closet, not the stuff just his clothes. Emily really liked the way he dressed. He wasn't a t-shirt and jeans kind of a guy. He had nice shirts, jackets and more than one suit, which was impressive.
Without much else to do Emily watched TV. Was this really what unemployed people did all day?
Things were different at the BAU. Morgan couldn't help but look over at Emily's empty desk. It didn't feel right.
JJ noticed her friend wallowing around for most of the day so she went over to his desk to try and cheer him up.
"Did you hear from Emily?" He asked when she approached without giving her time to say anything.
"No, she's probably busy unpacking or something." JJ replied. Not that she would want to talk to me, JJ thought.
"I hate that she moved. She belongs here." Morgan said.
"We all tried to convince her to stay, even me, but she made up her mind." JJ sighed.
"She's so stubborn it hurts." Morgan said before falling silent.
JJ bit her lip as her eyes drifted towards Emily's empty desk. She sighed. "It does feel weird without her." She said before going back to her office.
Later that day the team got called on a case in North Carolina. It was a suspected middle-aged man who was torturing women before drowning them and letting their bodies float out to sea.
Hotch had decided to let the rest of the team go off on the case while he stayed and worked on some political stuff with Strauss.
Soon after the team had departed Hotch's phone rang. "Hotchner." He answered.
"Hey Hotch, it's Prentiss." Emily said nervously.
"Oh hi Prentiss. How's the unpacking going?"
"Actually plans changed a little. I'm still in the city." Emily replied biting at her nail.
Hotch didn't know how to respond. Was that a good thing or not?
"I called because I was wondering if you knew of any jobs in the building."
"Well you know that you're old job is always here but I also heard about a job in another department that might work." Hotch said.
"Tell me about it."
"I don't know much about it." Hotch explained. "I can get more information about it and if you want you can drop by the office tomorrow."
"Yeah I can do that. I'll come in around one if that's alright."
Hotch looked over his schedule to make sure he didn't have anything with Strauss. "That would be great. I'll see you then and by the way the rest of the team is out of town so no worries."
"Thanks Hotch, I'll see you then." Emily said before they both hung up.
She knew that she wouldn't have been able to lounge around the house for long but she thought she would've been able to last longer than a half a day.
When Jason came home he was happy to see Emily in his house. He wasn't used to coming home to anyone. "Hey baby." Jason said walking over to him and putting his arms around her.
"You look sexy." Emily said against his chest. He still had his work overalls on and he had a little sweat covering his forehead. He was filthy and his hair was messed up and Emily felt like she was melting.
"You think?" Jason probed as he pulled away.
"Yeah." She breathed before crashing her lips to his. When they separated Jason kissed a path from her lips to her ear.
"Do you want to go upstairs?" He whispered in her ear before biting on it.
"Later." Emily said moving away from him.
"Later?" Jason asked completely taken aback.
"Well I'm cooking so we can play later." Emily called back as she walked back into the kitchen.
"I didn't think the sex would stop so soon." Jason joked as he followed her into the kitchen.
"Oh it hasn't stopped it's just been put on hold until further notice." Emily explained as she cut the pizza she had made. "Once we finish eating we can have sex all night if you want."
"I'm going to hold you to that." Jason piped as he and Emily sat down to eat.
Once they had begun eating Emily spoke again. "So how was your day?"
"Good." Jason replied. "But some oil got splashed on me and I cut my hand."
"You have a dangerous job." Emily replied with a mouth full of pizza.
"Speak for yourself Agent Prentiss." He fired back with a smile.
Emily rolled her eyes but he had reminded her of the conversation she had with Hotch. "I have good news."
When Jason looked at her she continued. "I have a meeting with Hotch tomorrow and he's going to help me find another job in the FBI."
Jason face lit up as he watched the excitement grow in his girlfriend's eyes. "That's amazing Em. I knew you wouldn't be able to make to next week without trying to find a job."
"Yeah well, I guess it all has to do with who I was raised by." Emily replied because that was what she thought it had to be. Even though her mother hadn't given her a lot of attention or love Emily did have to thank her mother for giving her a good work ethic. That's how she had had such a good life so far. She had worked for it.
"Are you finished?" Jason asked, pulling her out of her thoughts.
"Yeah, why?" Emily asked, playing dumb.
"Sex." Jason said standing up. "Right now." He pulled her up. "Until dawn."
"Oh right, how could I forget?" Emily said in a mock tone as she let Jason pull her along behind him and up to his bedroom.
"You look amazing." He said while he pushed her gently onto his, no wait their bed. "No makeup, messy hair, my shirt. You're every guys dream right now."
Emily placed her hand on the side of his face. "I love you so much."
"I love you to Em." Jason replied before letting her bring his face down to hers.
They spent the night making love and fucking each other's brains out. By two o'clock the two lovebirds were completely spent. "I could get used to this." Jason said sleepily into Emily's neck.
Emily let out a breathy laugh. "Well don't. I can already feel how sore I'm going to be in the morning."
"I'm sorry, but you have to admit that it's worth it."
"100%." Emily replied into his chest while trying to stifle a yawn.
"Night Emily." Jason whispered tiredly.
"Good night Jason." She replied before almost instantly falling asleep.
Emily's breathing leveled out and Jason felt her breath on his bare chest. She was almost on top of him yet still not close enough. He smiled and held her tighter.
This wasn't what love felt like this was what being in love felt like.
The only way to describe the feeling was knowing that there was no way that he could ever imagine his life without Emily. It was almost like he needed her to function. So much so that thinking about not having Emily in his life was kind of scaring him.
The next morning Emily and Jason almost woke up late and they were both extremely tired. "Good thing it's Friday." Jason said when they woke up.
Emily laughed and got out of bed, apparently a little too fast because when she stood her body practically screamed.
"Are you alright?" Jason asked and although he was concerned he couldn't keep the smile off his face.
"Just a little sore and wipe that douche smile off your face." Emily said without looking at him. "I'll make some coffee while you get ready."
Emily slowly walked out of the bedroom and down the stairs. Once Jason left for work she would soak in a hot bath to sooth her sore muscles. As per Jason's request she made French toast and extra strong coffee.
"I never want you to move out." Jason said while stuffing his face.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Emily said rolling her eyes.
"No I mean it. I really want you to stay." He looked at the time and he was pretty much late for work. "I got to go babe. We'll talk about it when I get home." He kissed her on the top of her head before hurrying off. "Good luck with your meeting with Hotch."
Once he closed the door Emily had a chance to think about what he had said. A smile came over her because he had meant what he had said. He really wanted her to live with him.
Emily almost jumped for joy but her muscles wouldn't let her. She quickly went to run herself a hot bath. She soaked in the bath until the water turned cool.
When she got out she got ready had a quick lunch before heading off to meet Hotch. She was excited to go back to the office but upset because she knew it wasn't permanent.
She said goodbye to Sergio and was soon on her way to the BAU. On the drive to the office she thought about how much her life had changed since last year. By the time she got into the parking garage her head was spinning. Geez, fucking Will really fucked things up.
She walked threw the heavy glass doors for probably the millionth time. She couldn't describe the feeling that overcame her when she saw that her desk wasn't filled with someone else's stuff. It was still empty and ready for her if she wanted it. But she didn't. Well she did more than anything but she wouldn't.
"Hey Prentiss, it's good to see you." Hotch said walking down the catwalk to greet her.
"Hey Hotch, how are things?" Emily asked.
"Good. The team just went out on a case in North Carolina so they'll probably be staying there for a week and I had to stay back to deal with some stuff with Strauss." Hotch explained.
Emily couldn't help but make a face at the dragon lady's name. She couldn't stand that women and the feeling was most defiantly mutual. Hotch smiled a little and then gestured up to his office. "Shall we?"
Emily nodded and followed him into his office. "So I did a little more research into the job I was telling you about. It's a team of 7 and I used to go to college with the leader so I can defiantly put in a good word for you."
Hotch went on to tell her that the team rarely ever left Virginia and that the hours were almost always 9-5. Everything Hotch was telling her sounded great. "I would love to meet Agent Barton as soon as possible."
Hotch smiled a real smile. "I thought you would say that. He's expecting us anytime, if you want to go now."
Emily's eyes widened. "I'm not ready Hotch. I'm not dressed up enough and I don't even have my resume."
Hotch stood up. "If you don't want to go now that's fine but I know you can get this job whether you wear a skirt or not."
"How can you be so sure?" Emily asked while trying to hide the fact that she was mad that some of her self-consciousness was coming through.
"Because you did it here." Hotch sighed. "You fit in here like you were meant to be here and in my opinion you are. I understand how certain circumstances have compromised your situation but I still think you belong here. That being said I'm not going to hesitate to help you find another job. I want you to be happy Emily and I know you're ready."
Emily blinked. Well now she had to go meet Agent Barton. Emily stood up next to Hotch. "Alright I'm ready."
"Then let's go Agent Prentiss." Hotch said while holding his office door open for her.
The two walked down to Agent Barton's office together. It was up a floor and through wooden doors instead of glass. The meeting went flawlessly and Hotch could tell that Agent Barton really wanted Emily to join his team. Hotch observed them interact and after twenty minutes it was almost like the two had known each other since they were kids, just like he thought.
When they left the office things were still up in the air but Hotch was 80% sure that Emily would get the job if she really wanted it.
"Thanks for everything Hotch." Emily said when they were at the elevators.
"Anytime. And don't forget that I'm always here for you." Hotch said.
Emily smiled and hugged her former boss. Under the tough, emotionless shell he was really a softy who just wanted to make sure that everyone was okay. They bid each other goodbye and Emily drove to Jason's work.
She was overjoyed and she knew she wouldn't be able to wait until he got home. When she walked into the mechanic shop she asked the guy at the front desk where Jason was and he let her go in the back. She quickly located him in those overalls that were going to be the death of her.
He was coming out from underneath a car when he saw here. "Hey baby. What are you doing here?" He asked while he stood up and kissed her.
"I got a job!" She said excitedly. Her excitement made him excited even though he knew she would find one.
"That's great Em." He said while he hugged her so tight he knew she couldn't breathe. "I want to introduce you to someone, come here."
He pulled her over to another car where another guy was changing the oil. "Justin, this is my girl Emily."
Emily's heart fluttered. My girl.
"It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you because this one won't stop talking about you." Justin laughed. "Only good things of course." He added quickly.
"What, are you my dad?" Emily joked to Jason. "It's nice to meet you too Justin."
The three talked and got to know each other a little. Justin was Jason's childhood friend and when they were kids they were together so often people thought they were brothers. Soon Emily had to leave so that Jason and Justin could get back to work.
When Emily got back to Jason's she took out the business card that Agent Barton had given her and called him to officially accept the job he had offered her before her and Hotch had left the office. Things were looking up and Emily was looking forward to a weekend of doing absolutely nothing.
This turned out not to be the case however. On Saturday afternoon Emily got a text from Will asking if they could talk. Emily chewed on her bottom lip and debating even answering him.
He texted her again and said they could meet in public if that would make things more comfortable for her. After thinking for another few minutes she agreed. She told Jason she was going to the store and then left quickly before she had a chance to change her mind.
They agreed to meet at a coffee shop close to Will's house. Emily drove into the parking lot and took a few deep breathes before getting out of her car. This was a big moment.
When she walked into the shop she surveyed the place and was thankful that she had gotten there first. She got her coffee and sat at a table in the back corner.
Alone with her thoughts Emily's mind began to drift towards a particular encounter Emily had with Will months before. The team was out to a bar for a night to clear their heads. JJ had brought Will and Hotch had brought Beth so the table was quite crowded.
Emily excused herself to get some fresh air. She downed her drink before leaving the table and heading towards the door. Once outside the cool breeze hit her and instantly chilled her. The one thing to hate about bars was that they got so stuffy.
She was about to go back in when Will walked through the doors. He sent a smirk over to her as he approached and she returned a warm smile and leaned back against the wall again.
"Hey there." He said when he got close to her. "You good?"
"Yeah just a little warm." Emily replied.
"I love what you're wearing by the way." Will commented looking her up and down.
She was wearing leggings and a halter style top under a cardigan that had been long forgotten in the warm bar.
"Thanks." She said even though he knew what he was hinting at. "They're staying on by the way." She teased referring to her clothes.
Will rose on eyebrow at her. "That sounds like a challenge."
"It's not. We can't do anything right now, maybe tonight but not right now."
Will stepped closer to her. "But what if I can't wait until tonight?" He asked dropping his voice.
"You're going to have to." She said firmly.
"Walk with me." Will asked but it sounded more like an order.
She followed him around the building and they continued to talk about nothing. They got around to the side of the building with dumpsters and darkness.
"Romantic." Emily said sarcastically.
"Well it's private." Will countered. "It's pretty much just like you're apartment."
Emily laughed. "Oh yeah, just like it."
Will backed Emily up against a cool brick wall and placed his hands on her hips. "Let's just pretend because I don't think I'll be able to sneak away to your place tonight."
Emily rolled her eyes and then agreed and then let him guide her into a kiss.
Emily wasted no time and immediately started working on his belt buckle. She felt Will smile against her mouth at her eagerness. His hands moved from her hips and slowly made their way up to her boobs.
Will slid the top of her shirt down over her boobs. Will groaned at the fact that she wasn't wearing a bra. "You drive me crazy." Will mumbled against her lips. Emily smiled, that was the goal.
Will's hand cupped her boobs gently before tweaking her nipples painfully. Emily gasped at the unexpected roughness. "More." She mumbled. He kissed a path down her chest between the valley of her boobs before sucking and biting gently at her nipples. Emily's eyes fluttered closed as she reveled in the feeling.
Emily successfully got Will's pants undone and moved them down onto his hips. She pushed herself against him and Will's hands moved to her ass automatically and pulled her closer. "We need to hurry up." Emily panted as she felt her arousal grow to almost unbearable.
Emily removed Will's dick from its restraints and started stroking it. Will groaned and pulled down Emily's leggings and thong and started teasing her back.
He pushed one finger easily into her dripping center. Slowly he pushed in and out and Emily bit back a loud moan that threatened them both. "You're so wet." Will said in a husky southern voice that was just shy of magical. He added another finger into her without resistance. "Feel how easy that was?"
"Please fuck me." Emily panted in heated and labored breaths that she knew would drive him crazy.
"Yes ma'am." He said while stopping Emily's hand from eagerly stroking him.
He carefully lifted one of Emily's legs off the ground and put it against his chest and over his shoulder. Once she was balanced he and lined himself up with her center. He teased her and listened to the begging and desperate moans that fell from her lips.
Unexpectedly Will pushed into her all at once, and also unexpectedly Emily cried out. "God yes!" She cried before quickly covering her mouth with her hand. "Will don't do that!" She whisper yelled.
Will couldn't stop the laugh that emerged. "I'm sorry I couldn't help it."
Emily smiled and then squirmed. "Fuck me." She demanded. "But quietly." She added quickly.
Will resumed thrusting into her slow and deep. Emily kept her moans under control by biting her lip in an adorable way and digging her nails into Will's shoulder in a slightly less adorable way.
Will moved slightly and angled his hips and hit Emily's g-spot with every push. Her eyes closed tightly and she started to moan louder. Too loud.
"Babe you have to be quiet." Will whispered in her ear with a smile on his face.
"Then stop doing that." Emily moaned through gritted teeth. "Fuck, that's so good." She breathed as he did it again.
"I know." Will agreed closing his eyes as well and letting himself get lost in the blissful feeling.
Will resumed quick long thrusts into Emily each time forcefully pushing her into the brick. Maybe it was the heightened fear of being less than 100 feet away from his wife or maybe it was the fact that Emily looked absolutely perfect but Will was going to have to put this experience close to the top of his best sex list.
Fearful of the time he speed up. "We have to hurry." Will groaned. Although he meant Emily had to hurry he was ready to explode at a moments notice.
"Touch me." She begged in a breathy tone. He snaked his hand down to her clit and touched her in a way that he knew made her fall apart.
Soon enough Emily's hands were franticly moving from her boobs to his hair to his hips to the wall. She was trying her hardest to be quiet but at this point she was so far gone that Will knew she was having a hard time caring.
"Fuck Will, I'm so close." She moaned desperately. "Cum with me please."
Will angled his hips once again to hit her g-spot and that immediately sent her over the edge. "Oh my god!" She all but screamed as she threw her head back and hit the brick wall behind her.
Will followed her but kept his voice under control. "Fucking hell Em." He groaned into her neck. She pulled his face to hers and kissed him breathlessly.
Emily noticed how sore her leg was and Will moved away so she could stand on two feet. "That's going to hurt for a while." She commented.
"Sorry babe." Will said.
"No you're not." Emily laughed. "I don't care anyways."
"We should get back." Will noted as he was fixing his clothes and hair.
"Yeah, how do I look?" Emily asked.
"Well fucked."
Emily's face went white. "Oh my god, are you serious?" There was no way in hell that she would be able to hide the fact that she just had sex from all those profilers and it would be mere minutes for everyone to piece it together.
"No, I'm kidding." Will laughed.
"Will!" Emily said before bursting into laughter with him. "You dick!" She said before pushing him.
"Come on babe, let's get back to the crowd." Will said and then they were on there way back. Emily calculated that they had been gone for just over 20 minutes. Nothing too suspicious, you could have a good conversation in 20 minutes. Or a good fuck but why bring that up?
Emily's face burned with embarrassment from remembering the encounter. Nothing she could do about it now, it had happened. But it wouldn't happen again Emily reminded herself and that seemed to calm her down.
She didn't know what brought on that memory in particular or any for that matter but it didn't matter. She calmed herself down and went about thinking about something else while she waited for Will to get to the coffee shop.
Five minutes later Will walked through the glass door. He looked exactly as he always had, which might not seem like a big deal but for some reason Emily had expected him to look different.
He got his coffee and walked over to her. With every step it felt like her heartbeat was getting louder and louder.
"Hey Em." He said in a forced casual tone as he sat down.
"Hello." Emily replied in a not so forced cold tone. She didn't realize how pissed she would be at him still. She tried to push the feelings aside and be civil.
"How have you been?" He asked awkwardly.
Emily raised an eyebrow at him. "Peachy and you?"
"I've been better but I'm managing." He looked at his watch. "I can only stay for 45 minutes then I have to go pick up Henry."
"A lot can be said in 45 minutes." Emily stated.
"A lot can be done too." Will said with the smallest of smirks. When he looked up at her she blushed.
"Yeah well, let's not go there."
"You're right, I'm sorry." Will said quickly looking down at his coffee.
"So was there anything you wanted to say or are we just touching bases?" Emily asked.
"Give me a minute." Will said quietly. He tried to get his thoughts together. He glanced up at the women who had ruined all his affairs and ruined his marriage. It would be easy to get mad at her but of course he wouldn't because he had done so much and taken so much from her.
"I wanted to say that I'm sorry Em." Will started. "I pulled you into my mess and ruined you're life. I feel terrible. So bad that I don't even know what to say or where to start."
"You're doing good so far." Emily replied before letting him continue.
"The amazing affair aside," He continued while Emily rolled her eyes. "I can't believe what I did to you the last time we were together. I surprised I'm still breathing." He chuckled. "I don't know what came over me. I mean we've had fight sex before and I guess I just got carried away."
Will paused and looked away from her. Emily could tell he was hurting and he seemed genuine. "I never meant for it to end like that." He sighed. "I should have listened to you and backed off."
"Well if we're going to get technical with the shoulds and shouldn'ts than we should include the fact that the affair, amazing or otherwise, shouldn't have happened in the first place." Emily pointed out.
"I know but I can only own up to one thing at a time Em." He said with a smile that made Emily's heart flutter like old times. "So how have you been?" He asked again knowing that he would get a better answer.
"Good actually. Things got pretty serious with Jason and I ended up moving into his house after I sold my apartment and I got another job with the FBI." Emily said with a smile because for the first time in months her life was something to smile about.
"Wow, that's incredible Emily. You look great." He said before quickly putting his hands up in defense. "I mean you look happy and I've always thought that looked good on you."
"Yeah somehow things managed to work themselves out." Emily replied looking down at her almost empty coffee.
"I'm glad you're still with Jason, he's a good guy." Will said after a moment.
Emily's head snapped up to look at Will who wore a sad smile. Will just complimented the guy that had caused their falling out. His old friend and his old competition.
Before Emily had the chance to reply he looked down at his watch. "I have to get going. It was nice to see you again."
"It was good to see you to." Emily replied honestly. She was kind of upset he was leaving. There seemed to be so much that was still left unsaid between them.
He got up and threw the rest of his coffee in the trash. "And Emily?" Will asked once he was standing.
"Yeah?" She asked looking up at him again.
"I'm always here if you need me. You know that right?"
Emily nodded and with he turned and left. Emily watched him leave and walk out to his car before driving away. She smiled to herself a little. Two minutes ago she felt like they could've talked for hours and hours and still have so much to say. But all of the sudden it didn't feel that way anymore. Suddenly everything had been said.
Emily went back to Jason's house and relaxed with him for the rest of the day.
For the BAU team in North Carolina their week had been nonstop. They worked hard every day and finally solved the case so they got to go home on Sunday, four days earlier than expected.
"Are we getting better at this or are criminals getting dumber?" Morgan asked while they were packing up their stuff at the local police station on Sunday afternoon.
"I think it's both." JJ replied.
"Come on I want to hit the road before it gets to dark." Reid called while holding up the SUV keys.
"No way kid. You are not driving again." Morgan stated and took the keys from him.
JJ laughed and let out a sigh of relief. "Thank God."
"Actually, it's Derek." Morgan said laughing at his own joke.
"Come on children." Rossi piped in. "Let's get home."
So the four agents piled in the SUV and after a brief stop at their hotel they were on the road and on the way back to Virginia.
JJ texted Will and told him they were on their way back to which Will replied that he wanted her to come over for supper so they could talk. After thinking about it she decided to go. Nothing bad was going to happen to her and she was going to get to see her son. Pretty much a win win. Well accept that Will would be there.
Traffic was surprisingly light and the team arrived at the BAU just after 5pm. A brief check in with Hotch before everyone went there separate ways.
JJ got to her mother's house and after a quick shower and outfit change she was back out the door and on her way. The excitement of seeing Henry clouded her apprehension of seeing Will. She hadn't been alone with him since she had left him but she wasn't afraid of him as such. She was more nervous and afraid that things would be awkward.
She pulled into the driveway and for a second it almost felt like her old life. Like she still lived there and that she was just coming home from work on a regular day. The feeling of coming home to someone warmed her and for a moment JJ could get lost in the thought that this was still her home and that her and Will were still deeply in love.
But once she got out of her car and her foot touched the pavement the illusion was shattered. This was her ex-home where her soon to be ex-husband still lived.
JJ sighed, it was nice while it lasted. The illusion and the reality.
She walked up to the door slowly, not really caring that the night had turned cold. She knocked on the door lightly and a little part of her hoped that Will hadn't heard it.
But he did and he opened the door. "Hey JJ. Come in, it's freezing out." Will said stepping aside and ushering her inside.
"Hey Will." JJ replied awkwardly. She took off her coat and shoes while Will rushed back to the kitchen after hearing a beep.
"It's almost ready." He called out from the kitchen.
"No rush." She called back while she went straight to the living room where she knew Henry was.
As soon as she passed the threshold Henry's face lit up. "Mommy!" He squealed as he stood up on slightly wobbly legs and walked over to her.
"Hi my baby." JJ said with a smile as she hugged her son for the first time in what felt like forever.
Once they separated Henry proceeded to show her all his "new" toys and it felt like she had never left.
All of the sudden Henry held his arms up and smiled. JJ knew he wanted her to tickle him so she raised her hands and slowly moved them towards him while she squeezed the air. Henry started to giggle in anticipation. JJ launched her hands forward quickly and tickled him. JJ melted at the sound of her son laughing so hard that his face was turning red. He rolled around on the floor as she tickled his belly, neck, legs and back.
Henry wasn't that ticklish but when he was worked up like that absolutely every body part was hypersensitive.
JJ continued to tickle him and when she felt like someone was watching them she turned towards the hall where Will was leaning against threshold smiling.
"Sorry." He said before standing up straight. "Supper is ready when you are."
JJ turned to Henry who was still red in the face and trying to catch his breath. "Ready to eat?" She asked to which Henry nodded enthusiastically.
She picked him up and the two joined Will in the kitchen. JJ put Henry in his high chair and then helped Will take up the food. She set Henry's in front of him and then sat down with hers. Will joined them and they fell into another silence. To say that JJ had mixed feelings about being there would be an understatement. It felt like they were trying to play happy family for a camera when in reality they were nothing close to a happy family.
"The reason I wanted you to come tonight was so we could talk." Will stated breaking the silence. "So if there's anything you want to say to me or anything you want to ask me than feel free to."
JJ just looked at him. She had about a thousand things to say to him and about a million things to ask him but she didn't want to go first so she stayed quiet.
"I guess I'll start than." Will said. "I know that I agreed that we would leave everything up to the courts but if it's at all possible I would like to keep Henry out of court."
"How so?" JJ asked.
"Well if we could come up with a custody agreement between ourselves I think that would alleviate one headache."
"Me too." JJ agreed. "We can try and figure it out after we finish eating if you'd like."
"That'd be great." Will said with a smile. He leaned back into his chair and sighed. "That's such a relief."
JJ laughed. "Was that it? We could have done that over the phone."
"Well I didn't think you would've agreed so easily." Will admitted.
They were almost done eating before Will spoke again. "Is there anything you want to ask me?"
"Oh I can think of about a million." JJ replied.
It was meant to be a joke but when Will replied, "I'm all ears." It suddenly turned serious.
JJ took a deep breath. "Was a bad wife?" She asked quietly.
"How do you mean?"
"You went looking elsewhere and you found something in those women. Was it something I wasn't giving you?" JJ explained.
"No Jay, you're not a bad wife. I'm a bad husband." Will assured. "If I'm being honest I wasn't willing to wait for you to be ready after Henry was born. You were exhausted all the time cause you didn't sleep more than twenty minutes and you had no interest in sex. So instead of helping you through it and waiting I went elsewhere. I found everything that I knew you could give me but I wasn't willing to wait for in those other women."
"Did you ever feel bad about it?" JJ asked.
"Not really." Will replied honestly. "Which just proves the bad husband thing. I was only thinking about myself all the time. Especially when I dragged Emily into the mix. That's what I regret the most."
JJ needed a break, too much was being revealed too quickly. "I'm going to clean Henry up and then I'll come down and help you." She said before taking Henry out of his highchair and bringing him upstairs. She took her time washing his face and hands and then putting him into his pajamas.
Before returning downstairs JJ brought a coloring book and some crayons for Henry and a few sheets of paper and a pen for herself and Will.
"Ready to work out a schedule?" JJ asked when she returned to the kitchen.
"Almost. I just have a few more dishes to put in the dishwasher. I'll be right out."
JJ brought everything into the living room and set Henry down with his coloring book.
He made up stories that made no sense about the dragons in the book. Apparently one was orange but he always wore a blue jacket so all the other dragons thought he was blue and not orange.
"What color is this?" JJ asked.
"Green!" Henry replied when JJ gave him the crayon.
"Right. What color is this?" She asked again holding up another one.
"Green!" Henry replied with a giggle.
JJ laughed. "They can't all be green buddy. This one's yellow."
Will walked in and sat on the couch and watched the two on the floor. He hadn't seen Henry that happy in a while and another wave of guilt passed through him.
"Are you ready now?" JJ asked.
"Yeah." Will replied and waited for JJ to get up and sit on the couch next to him. "So I was thinking that I could take him From Sunday to Wednesday and then on Wednesday afternoon you could pick him up at daycare and have him until sometime Sunday."
"That's what I was thinking to. And if the team gets called away than I could drop him off here before I go."
Will nodded. "Well that was easy." Will said happily. "I guess I was worried for nothing."
They watched their son walk around the room and babble to himself as he picked up and dropped every toy that was in the room. JJ insisted that she put Henry to bed when they saw his eyes start to get heavy. Henry went to sleep quickly and even though it wasn't getting late JJ felt like it was time to getting going.
"This was nicer than I thought it was going to be." Will said.
"Ditto." JJ replied with a smile before putting on her coat. "Well I guess this is it." She said awkwardly.
"JJ before you go I want to say something." Will took a deep breath. "I don't think I've ever told you that I'm sorry. I didn't mean for things to go so wrong. Everything was amazing with us and I wouldn't be able to tell you why I couldn't wait for you. I'm sorry I messed up your life and everything else but I want you to know that I'm still here. I don't care if you never talk to me again, but I want you to know that I am here and that I love you."
JJ took in his words and felt a strange feeling come over her. For weeks she hadn't been able to figure out the strange feeling she was experiencing or what she needed to stop them. But now suddenly she realized that she had only needed to listen. To be open to hearing not Will's excuse, but his explanation.
"Thank you Will." JJ said before pulling him into a hug, which he immediately returned. "That means a lot."
When they separated they bid each other goodbye and JJ walked out of her home and went to her car to go to her mother's house.
She was absolutely exhausted by the time she walked through her the front door. She decided to head off to bed early in order to be ready for the Monday morning that was on the horizon.
Emily too went to sleep early eager to meet her new team in the morning and surprise her old team.
In the morning Emily paced around the house. She had woken up at 4 and had been unable to go back to sleep. When Jason woke up she had a big breakfast made and informed him that she had cleaned most of the house.
"That's impressive Em, but you have to calm down." Jason said while standing in front of her and preventing her from pacing. "You know you're going to be fine."
"I know I just get nervous at change." Emily said. "Now stop talking and eat because I made a lot of food."
Emily would never get tired of eating meals with someone. Often times she would ask Will to stay and eat with her even though they had already had sex. Growing up she never got to talk to anyone about their day or heard any funny stories from the office so every opportunity she had to get that she was going to take it.
"Are you having lunch with Garcia or anyone from your old team?" Jason asked.
"I'm going to try and have lunch with at least one of them but when I went to see Hotch on Friday he said that they were off on a case so I don't know if they're be back yet."
"If not we can meet somewhere." Jason offered. "We could have a lunch date."
"You're so cute." She teased.
They finished up eating and sooner rather than later it was time to head out. "Good luck, you're going to do great." Jason said before kissing her goodbye.
"Be careful and try not to hurt yourself today." Emily called down the driveway.
"Ok mom." He said before closing the door and letting Emily get in her car and drive away.
Deep, steady breathing filled Emily's car as she tried to steady her racing heart. She drove to a different part of the parking garage and waited in her car until it was time to go.
When she got in the elevator she almost pressed the button that would bring her to the BAU floor. She sighed and pushed the next one up. It was bittersweet being in the building again. But she had to keep reminding herself that this whole situation could have been avoided.
"Agent Prentiss good morning." Agent Barton said when she walked through the doors.
"Good morning sir."
"I'll show you to your desk and then I want to introduce you to the rest of the team."
"Sounds great." She said with a smile as she followed him.
She put her bag on the floor and took off her coat. She then followed Agent Barton into the conference room and then waited as he called in the rest of the team. Once everyone was settled he began.
"Like I informed you all on Friday we have a new agent joining our team. Everyone this is Agent Emily Prentiss. She used to work with the BAU so a few of you should remember her. Give her a warm welcome please." He turned to Emily. "I'll let you meet the team and then you can come to my office so we can sort out the last of the paperwork."
"Ok and thank you so much." She said before he left.
As it turned out Emily knew most of the people there, not well but she had met them before when they worked with the BAU. One agent, Agent Hannah Duff showed her around the office.
"And finally this is the break room. It's nothing fancy but we like to hide out here sometimes." Hannah said at the end of the tour.
"Thanks for showing me around. I'm going to need a few days to learn where everything is and to learn everyone's name but I'm sure I'll catch on soon."
"I heard a lot about you and your team, I think you'll fit in just fine." She said while getting some coffee for the two of them. "Oh and don't mind Kevin, he's all bark and no bite. He's never serious about anything, he just likes to flirt."
Emily laughed. "It's fine, I'm used to it." Emily was starting to think that everything was going to be just fine here.
The rest of the morning went along like clockwork and Emily fit in well, but it was going to take a few days to get used to the different kind of work the team did. Right before lunch she snuck out and went down to surprise Garcia.
She knocked on the closed door happily. "Enter if you dare!" Garcia called from behind it.
"Emily!" She screamed as soon as Emily opened the door. "Are you real? What in the world are you doing here?" She hugged Emily tightly.
Emily opened her mouth to reply but Garcia spoke again. "Wait! Badge? Gun? Smile?" She paused. "Are you back at the BAU?"
"Sadly no." Emily said and immediately felt guilty at Garcia's slightly disappointed face. "I got a new job upstairs so I'm still in the building."
"But wait, what about your house." Garcia asked still clearly confused.
"Change of plans, I moved in with Jason and didn't buy the house after all."
"That makes me so happy!" Garcia said getting up from her chair and hugging her again. "I guess I don't have to tell you that the team has been struggling to cope without you. Without the glue."
"I am so not the glue." Emily joked.
"Oh I beg to differ." Garcia said with a smile. "So does anyone else know?"
"Hotch knows because he helped me get the job and you. That's it."
"Well come on then." Garcia said as she got up and starting pulling on Emily's arm. "Let's go surprise the team."
Emily let Garcia drag her up a flight of stairs and through the glass doors that last week she had thought she would never walk through again.
"Look who's here!" She announced once they were threw the doors.
Morgan and Reid looked up from their desks and smiled. They got up and gave her a hug. "Hey princess. I knew you wouldn't be able to stay away."
Emily laughed. "And you would be right. I got another job in the building."
Rossi and Hotch emerged from their offices and offered warm welcomes as well. Once she explained the situation everyone was happy for her and glad that they would still see her a lot.
It was getting late and her lunch break was almost over and Emily would have to get back soon. So once she made lunch dates for the rest of the week she started saying goodbye to everyone.
"I'll see you guys tomorrow." Emily said as she turned to leave. She walked over to the door and gripped the handle and was about to push on it when she heard it.
"Emily." JJ called.
Emily turned and saw JJ come out of her office for the first time and walk down the catwalk. She walked all the way over to her without letting her eyes waver. Emily didn't know what JJ was going to do so she stayed still with her hand still on the door.
Once JJ got close enough she wrapped her arms around Emily and hugged her like Emily had just gotten back from a month long vacation or something. Emily was taken aback but returned the hug and closed her eyes.
"I'm glad you didn't leave us." JJ mumbled into her neck.
"Me too." Emily said opening her eyes and looking over JJ's shoulder at her friends. They all smiled back at her and even though it wasn't going to be the same as before Emily knew she was home.
She also knew that no matter what this amazing group of riff raffs that she called her family was going to be by her side no matter what. What more did she need?
Until the next story! - Sarah :D
