Chapter 1: Greypaw
The blue sky was dotted with fluffy white clouds, and the sun was hanging high in the sky, it's brilliant golden rays shining down into the hollow. The walls glistened and glittered like sparkling diamonds, their reflections sending rainbows of color that alighted upon the pelts of the felines below. Today was a very special day, and it couldn't have been more beautiful.
Suddenly, and loud noise erupted from the a ledge that was high above the floor of the hollow, and everyone suddenly stopped what they were doing and froze.
A young gray she-cat had heard the yowl of her clan leader, and eagerly bounded from the apprentice den and into the crowd. Her pelt was groomed to perfection, and her green eyes glittered with excitement. I can't believe it! I'm becoming a warrior! She thought.
The other clan members had come forward as well, and had arranged themselves in a packed circle, their fur brushing as they anticipated the lively event to come. Chatting quietly, they waited for their leader, Sunstar, to begin the ceremony.
"Greypaw, please step forward." A golden tom called from the high-ledge, his brown eyes alight with happiness. Naming new warriors was one of his favorite duties as leader.
Greypaw quickly started to approach, almost tripping over her own paws in her haste, and stood in the circle of clan cats. White, brown, gray, ginger, gold, and tortiseshell pelts sat around her, their bodies ranging in size from the smallest kit to the biggest warrior. They all watched enthusiastically as the apprentice stood before them.
The tabby she-cat kept herself as still as she could, but she couldn't help swishing her tail happily.
Greypaw had trained long and hard for this, twelve moons was a great while, equal to four seasons, and she had worked as hard as she could to try and be the best warrior ever, despite her fighting skills lacking as much strength as other areas.
Sunstar smiled down at his clan, noting Greypaw's twitching tail with a small chuckle, and merrily began the ceremony. "I, Sunstar, leader of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. She has trained hard to under stand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in turn. Greypaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
Greypaw felt like the whole forest was focused and centered on her. That this would be the most important moment in her entire life. She held back an exited mew, grinning from ear to ear, and answered. "I do."
Sunstar nodded his broad head, making the light glint off of his bright pelt. "Then by the power of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Greypaw, from this moment on you will be known as Greyleaf. StarClan honors your independence and your loyalty, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan."
Sunstar gracefully climbed down from the high-ledge and rested his muzzle on her head. She licked his shoulder respectfully, almost bursting from excitement. She was finally a warrior! This was actually happening!
The golden furred tom stepped away from Greyleaf with a smile, and her clan immediately surrounded her. They all exclaimed her new name, shouting it to the sky so that all the clans would hear it! "Greyleaf! Greyleaf! Greyleaf!"
Greyleaf got so thrilled that she started to shout her new name too. Their joined voices rose in a chorus of one word, "GREYLEAF!"
They continued on celebrating for a while. The queens kept watch over their playful kits, the apprentices ran around the hollow and dreamt of their warrior ceremony, the warriors shared tongues and idly chatted, and the two elders told the stories of their 'good old days'.
All too soon, the clan grew tired and settled down, returning to their previous duties, and the newly named Greyleaf was lead away by the white-and-ginger she-cat, Lilytail, to the huge thorn bush that was known as the warrior's den. Clan legend said that it was once made of the brances of a fallen tree, but that the twolegs had brought huge monsters into the territory, removing the giant tree and sending Thunderclan into hiding for some time. But that was seasons ago.
As Greyleaf went into the den she gasped, her jaw dropping. From the outside, the den had just looked like a big bush, not really anything special like the reinforced walls of the nursery or the esteemed Leaders Den, but when actually observed from the inside, Greyleaf could see that it extended from the bush into the rock wall of the hollow to form a long, oval-shaped cavern that was full of nests. They lined the walls, sat near the door, and formed large rings that ended at one nest, the deputy's nest, in the middle of the cave. It's so big!
Lilytail chuckled, flicking her ginger tail, her blue eyes glittering." Here's where you'll be sleeping," She said gesturing a white paw towards a nest close to the the wall of the bush. "Your nest is between Goldenfur's and Bramblepelt's." She mewed.
Greyleaf smiled, not minding the less than ideal location of her sleeping place, and left Lilytail's side to pad over to her new nest. She had to navigate many other nests on her way, nearly stepping on several as she went, until she was finally beside the one designated to her.
It was bowl-shaped and made of plenty of twigs that were held together by many strands of moss. Even more moss was padded on the inside of the bowl, and that moss was also lined with soft, fluffy feathers. Greyleaf circled it three times and laid down, curling into a ball. The feathers tickled her fur, and the moss bent beneath her weight, creating a warm cushion that fit her body perfectly. This nest is so soft! Being a warrior is going to be the best. She closed her eyes and purred happily.
Lilytail's voice called out from the entrance. "You should get some rest. You'll need it for your vigil tonight."
Greyleaf yawned, licking her lips, before burying her head into the moss and drifting off to sleep.
So, I was a little stumped on what to do next in this story, ya know, with 25 chapters and all, when I noticed, most of my chapters are short, not very detailed, and give very little character development. This made me want to go through and revise it, so that's what I'm doing. Over the course of the next few weeks, the first several something chapters will be revised and updated to their full potential, and will hopefully be more captivating and well written. Anyways, until next time!
