Hey guys! See! I told you that I'd write another the next day! At this rate, I might write another today! My idea well is working again! :D :D :D
Sorry for no review answering, there weren't any because I wrote another chapter too quick. :P MY FAULT!
Chapter 27: Greyleaf
Greyleaf woke up in the medicine den the next morning, and she dragged herself from the nest. The horror of the day before still clung to her mind, and she just couldn't stand staying in camp any longer—the memories were unbearable.
As she straggled along, her eyes seemed to catch every little place that she had ever talked to Blackfur: the apprentice den where they'd first became friends, the warriors den where they had shared a nest, the sunning rock where they had eaten together, the nursery where he had washed Nightpaw when he was a kit.
She started to cry again, and she closed her eyes and quickened her pawsteps to get out of the hollow. She thought to herself that the name was fitting, for she felt hollow inside.
Almost there, the grey she-cat began an all-out sprint and darted through the thorn tunnel.
Running head-down through the forest, with no clear direction, Greyleaf didn't stop to watch the dawn sun rise above the forest with its beautiful orange and yellow colors.
She finally had to slow when her chest could take no more, and she sucked in huge labored breaths. By some horrible twist of fate, she had arrived at the Sky Oak, and she gasped in pain when she smelled the acrid stench of dry blood.
Coughing, she turned the other way and ran. She felt rather than saw that her paws were following one of the familiar paths that led to the abandoned twoleg nest. She didn't stop until she had reached the old shack, and when she did, she dragged her exhausted self inside and collapsed on the hard, wooden floor.
The bright sun colors and orange leaves of Leaf-fall mocked her as she wallowed in sadness. For once, Greyleaf wished it was gloomy and raining. Then the world would feel her pain.
A faint rustling disturbed her isolation, and the silvery grey she-cat's head jerked up. A pair of eyes appeared in the shadows, and Greyleaf gasped. "You!" She spat accusingly.
Two more pairs joined the first, and three young cats emerged from the shade. "Mom? What are you talking about?" One of her kits asked.
Greyleaf sighed in relief when she saw it was only Goldenpaw, Nightpaw, and Sparrowpaw. "Oh, I-I'm sorry. I thought you were someone else."
"Who?" Sparrowpaw asked, head cocked to the side. The other two apprentices remained silent.
The she-cat shook her head, green eyes closed. "I don't know."
The spotted grey cat didn't prompt any farther, and instead, she padded over and sat at her mother's side. Goldenpaw and Nightpaw followed.
"What is this place?" The golden tabby she-cat asked, blue-green eyes wide.
Greyleaf paused before answering. "This," she sighed, "This is just an old twoleg nest. I come here when I don't know what to do." It was partly true, she did come here to seek out Pinestar's soothing presence. She just didn't tell them the whole truth. Some invisible wall felt like it was holding her back, preventing her from revealing the complete truth.
The dark tom nodded. "Sounds reasonable," he meowed and flicked his diamond-tabbied tail.
Greyleaf couldn't help but notice he shared that trait with his father, as well as the badger-like stripes on the top of his head, the streak next to his eyes, the stripes that began above his eyes and fanned out to the side, and the streaks that started below his eyes—near the top-sides of his muzzle—and went out to his cheek fur.
Goldenpaw smiled. "I could use some alone time too. Bramblepelt's been working me like crazy."
Greyleaf noticed that Goldenpaw had the same streaks next to her eyes, freckled muzzle, and stripes that started above her eyes and reached up to her forehead that Goldenfur had. The grey she-cat wondered why in Starclan Goldenkit resembled her friend so much, and she resolved that Pinestar probably had a golden-colored mother or father.
"Well I don't know about you guys, but I've been having a great time learning herbs!" Sparrowkit beamed, eager to join in on the conversation, "It's the best!"
"I'm glad you like it," Greyleaf purred.
At least Sparrowkit didn't look odd. She was just a darker shade of grey than her mother and had spots. The apprentice also had darker grey fur around the rim of her eyes, as opposed to the lighter color around Greyleaf's, Pinestar's, Nightpaw's, and Goldenpaw's lower eye rims.
"Maybe we should just stay here for the rest of the day," Goldenpaw said, looking up at the light blue sky, "It's not like anything big was planned for today."
Nightpaw looked about to protest, but one glance at his mother made him close his mouth. Sparrowkit looked like she didn't really care, she was just happily scanning everything with her emerald green eyes.
"Sure," Greyleaf replied, sitting up, "I'm sure that your mentors won't mind. I haven't been able to spend time with you since I fell asleep. You're all so big now!"
She lovingly licked her son's head. He was the same height as her now, and he looked like he still had a lot of growing in his future. He'd most likely become as large and broadly-built as Pinestar.
Greyleaf then nuzzled Goldenpaw and Sparrowpaw. The former was growing as well, but she was still a bit smaller than her brother. Sparrowpaw, on the other hand, was a tiny thing. One could easily mistake her for a kit if it wasn't for the glow of intelligence beyond moons in her eyes.
"Come on," Greyleaf mewed, padding over to the nest that she and Pinestar had shared all those moons ago, "There's somewhere for us to lie down over here. And I want to know everything aboutyour apprentice training and ceremony!"
The three cats smiled, and they bounced over to the pink twoleg kittypet nest and laid down it it, sharing their newfound knowledge, hopes, dreams, and skills with their mother.
When the sun reached its highest peak and they finally went home, Greyleaf felt a million times better, and the bond between her and her kits had grown that much stronger.
Chapter 27: Goldenfur
Goldenfur had been looking for Greyleaf all day, and he'd been unable to find her in camp or the outlying forest. He was jus about to give up when her scent tickled his nose. Quickly, he followed the stale smell and arrived in the Sky Oak clearing, but when he got there, the metallic scent of blood smothered everything.
The warrior coughed, rubbing at his nose with a paw. The stench was almost unendurable, and he would have run away from it had he not heard the low hiss from the shadows.
"I know."
He whirled around toward the noise, ears laid back and claws unsheathing.
A pair of cold eyes glared at him from the shadows cast by the Sky Oak, and they narrowed accusingly at him.
Goldenfur snarled and leapt forward to attack the stranger, but he landed in the shade empty clawed. Only the stench of dirt-place was there, and the tom swore in anger.
Someone had seen him let Blackfur die.
DUN DUN DUN! So Goldenfur isn't the "I know," guy! Gasp!
I hope yall liked this chappie, though, again, it's another filler. ;P Don't worry, more suspenseful situations will appear later.
Question Of The Chapter: Who do you think the "I know," cat is?
