Chapter 12

Halt's home

In a large cave a day or so later. Halt was watching a brown wolf, which was whining and moaning as he stirred in his sleep. He whined again and began to thrush around, turning his head from side to side to avoid Halt's touch. To avoid any touch really, his mind remembered what a another person's touch could mean to his young body and he was still a little feverish.

"Please tell me what's wrong with him don't tell me he is still di…" Halt started to say before he was interrupted by the sandy wolf coming over to him.

"No he is not. His wolf side and his human side are fighting for control. You must remind him of who he is and as you must be ready for an attack. Being changed this way, a bitten wolf not one that was changed by a spell or born to it, if you don't wake his human side within a few hours of waking he will most likely stay a wolf forever and the three of us do have forever" said the sandy wolf now looking to the entrance to the cave and deciding to block it.

Soon the sounds and movements stopped as the fever broke and Will opened his dark chocolate brown eyes. Will saw two wolves in the cave with him. A sandy one was blocking the way out and the dark brown was moving forward one paw at a time. Suddenly it was too much, Will started to growl then he heard.

"Finished staring?" asked the dark brown wolf and that rang a dim bell. Will's eyes widened as he remembered a man wearing brown and grey cloth and he had dark brown hair and beard with some silver in it. He was small but he had a sense of power and strength from this small man. Then he remembered a name that went with the vision and Will thought that this wolf could be him.

Halt looked at the small wolf as he shook his head, something had returned to him and though he was not sure what, he was sure that if he kept on reminding him of home Will would come back. So Halt said next.

"Remember Tug and Abelard, our horses".

The wolf remembered an old barn place deep in a forest, of a horse and a pony and the pony's name was Tug. He was grey and shaggy and Will also remembered that Tug seems to talk to him but mostly he remembered the speed, the little horse was fast. Will now shut his eyes in pain.

"It hurts" Will whispered.

"I know Will, try now to remember your friends".

Will remembered the night before choosing day and how Horace taunted him for wanting to get into battle school and how the others George, Jenny and Alyss had acted that night and of Gilan, his big brother, when he first met him, when he hid in the tree and shot an arrow at him.

Then suddenly all his memories came back and had him twisting and howling on the ground "Halt please make it stop. I don't want to remember them doing that to me…. Please I can't" Will howled out in pain, The memories of the skandians and his owner flooded his mind.

"Will calm down, don't panic" Halt said while pinning Will to the ground to stop him from maybe hurting himself and it was going well until Will's wolf side made itself known and he attacked.

Then it was growls, teeth, claws and fur as the two wolves fought. The sandy wolf did not interrupt because this was something they had to work out for themselves.

Suddenly with a burst of fur and teeth, Will got away from Halt and out of the cave, pushing the sandy wolf down as he past. Will's paws flew over the ground as he rocketed away from the cave, the sandy wolf and most importantly Halt.

"Halt lets follow him but at a slower pace. His human side is there now but everything he can feel from his wolf side is making it hard to concentrate" said the sandy wolf picking himself off the cave floor.

"But he will be alright now?" Halt asked as he ran out of the cave and watched as a brown wolf's tail vanished over the hill.

"Oh he will be fine. Once you catch up to him and force his wolf to submit to yours everything will fall into place" said the sandy wolf starting off after the young wolf.

"He better be and how do I get his wolf to submit to mine and why didn't you tell me he was going to act like that" Halt growled out as he loped after Will with the sandy wolf behind him his heartbeat going as fast as his feet.

"I did tell you before he woke up and as for how to get his wolf to submit to yours, all I can say to that is follow your heart, it knows what it's doing" said the sandy wolf running off in a another direction to round the young wolf up.

Halt thought on this for the longest time. He had been alone even when he had friends he had felt alone but when Will came into his life, something changed, his heart had felt lighter. Now he had some one that shared the way he felt and on their way here Will had now become his love. Halt knew that he could not live without his love. Will was everything and he knew that he was everything to Will. At first he was just his teacher then he became his friend. Later on when Will decided that he wanted to stay a ranger, Halt became his father then on this trip Halt become something else as to what that was he knew that Will would have to work that out for himself but to Halt he knew how he felt about the boy that had changed his life so much in so short a time.

Will was his heart and Will was his home.
