I'll be your Kryptonite
Chapter 2
I can pay for that...
Conner felt like a little boy with his first crush as he stood outside the imposing building. It was at least fifty floors and was all glass with the entrance being made of marble. It looked more like a bank instead of a publishing company. Still he knew that he had to go in so steeling himself he walked through the automatic glass doors.
The lobby was as extravagant as the outside. All over the walls were pictures of famous books and novelists. His eyes widened when they landed on one of Kagome followed by another and then another. She was even more stunning in these ones than the ones he had seen earlier.
Walking across the polished marble floors he made his way to the receptionist asking if Kagome Taisho was in. The young blonde blushed and stuttered before shaking her head negatively. The hero sighed of course she wouldn't be there. Still maybe he could get an idea of where she was going.
"Um excuse me Superboy? Miss Taisho isn't in right now but I could give her a message and make you an appointment. I could even make it for tomorrow afternoon seeing how it must be important if a member of the Justice League is looking for her." The girl rushed out before waiting for his answer.
The teen hero considered his options, sure he could find out where she lived but he really didn't want her to think he was a stalker or something. At least this way it was more professional and he could come up with something to saw maybe even wear something other than his signature black t-shirt and jeans. Nodding his head in approval and took the small business card with a small thank you and left.
Looking down at it Conner couldn't stop the smile from spreading across his face and then realizing he was smiling in public quickly frowned before returning back to the base. He had to come up with a proper apology and decide on what he was going to wear. Picking up speed the teenager raced back to his home.
Of course they would bomb him with questions as soon as he got back. They probably would have left him alone if he hadn't been smiling again damn he really needed to get that under control. So now here he was sitting in the living room with his team mates questioning him while their teachers stood back and watched.
"What did she say? Was she surprised? Are you going to go on a date? Was she even hotter in person?" If it wasn't for his super hearing Conner was certain he wouldn't even know who was asking what. However he was fully aware that Robin was the one who asked the last question which made him growl.
"She didn't say anything because she had left for the day. I have an appointment with her tomorrow and yes the receptionist was very surprised. No we are not going to date I simply want to thank her and pay for her car. As for the last question, I've already met her in person remember Robin but yes she is even more attractive in person." Superboy stated calmly, or as calmly as someone with his temper could.
"So you get to see her tomorrow then? That's good it will give us a chance to run a better background check on her. We could also put some wires on you to make sure everything goes smoothly." Batman stated like it was some kind of undercover mission. The clone wanted to just disappear right then and there.
"Batman that's enough, I admit running further background checks is a good idea in case something happens but she hasn't done anything to be treated like a criminal. Besides the only reason Conner is even meeting with her is because he is taking responsibility for his actions. He is setting a great example for the rest of his team." Superman stated proudly. That was probably the first time he ever sounded proud of Conner and said teen couldn't help the smallest of smiles from making its way onto his face.
"Please Superboy is meeting with her because she's a super hot babe who didn't freak out about him crashing onto his car and kicked the bad guys butts. It has nothing to do with the car after all she told him not to worry about it. He just wants to see her again and maybe get a kiss." Robin muttered to himself even though he knew that almost everyone would hear him do to their super hearing and gadgets.
"I think someone is jealous. I mean come on Robin this is Superboy we're talking about like he cares if she told him to drop it, he's going to pay her back simply because he decided to. You know as well as I do that once he makes up his mind nothing can stop him." Kid Flash stated while slapping the clone on the back. By now Conner just wanted to go to his room and not come out.
Just as he was about to get up and storm off the computer went off signaling an incoming call. Letting the call through Superman stood tall and proud waiting for the image to come on. No one was expecting the pair of bright blue eyes that seemed to zone in on Superboy. It was her, Kagome Taisho! To say everyone was surprised was an understatement.
"Oh good you're there. I kind of have a message to deliver to the Camaro crashing cutie from some guy calling himself Vandal Savage. He says that unless you surrender yourself and become his mindless slave thingy he's going to kill me. Of course the dumb ass has as good of chance of doing that as Kikyo did. Still thought you should know about it and also I got a call from my secretary and she told me that I had a meeting with a member of the Justice League tomorrow, care to explain?" Her voice was calm and dare he say it bored.
It was as if she felt no fear about the fact that her life was in danger and yet all her could take away from it was two things. One she called him cute again and two who the fuck was Kikyo? Looking around he noticed everyone seemed to be slightly taken aback by her tone. Just as Robin as about to step forward and speak Conner interfered.
"My apologies Miss Taisho for crashing into your car and everything that has happened afterwards. I went to your place of work so that I could thank you properly and pay for the damages to your car and I will not take no for an answer. Now about this threat, it is serious and should be treated as such. I am aware you can fight but Vandal isn't just some low life robber he is a professional killer. I suggest we assign a bodyguard until Vandal as been dealt with." Superboy could feel everyone's gazes boring into his back and he really hoped he didn't get lectured right then and there. However the opposite happened.
"Superboy is right this threat is not something to be taken lightly. I agree with his plan so all that's left is to choose." Superman stated while looking over the occupants in the room. He was about to speak again until someone cleared their throat.
"Shouldn't I be the one to choose who will be guarding me, interrupting my life, and supposedly guarding me from someone who I could handle myself? I'm not some damsel in distress you know, I have fought in wars and have gone against the meanest and strongest, I was a general for Kami's sake! Now I will not be telling you about me or who I was before but I will respect your want to protect me since it is kinda your fault I guess. So I choose Superboy. I already know him and was going to be seeing him tomorrow anyway so why the hell not. Meet me at my office tomorrow for your appointment and pack your things you'll be living with me until this is over. Also be prepared to wear a uniform." With that little rant over the screen went black.
"Did that seriously just happen?" Speedy asked while looking around at the shocked faces of the Justice League. No one every spoke to them that way.
"Dude why does Superboy get to live with the super hot writer? You'll get to go to all her meetings and conferences not to mention celebrity parties. I mean she's a famous socialite. This just sucks." Robin vented while looking at the still shocked clone.
"What do you think she meant by uniform? Perhaps some kind of security outfit to not draw attention?" Aqualad asked quietly very curious for some reason.
"Well despite everything said we have no choice but to protect her and Superboy was her choice. That being said I want to know everything about this woman, and I mean everything. Conner you'll have to go with her everywhere and take out any threat. We will set up security around her home, work place and favorite spots. Try to be on your best behavior though I know this isn't exactly something we trained your for." Turning to look at the young man the older hero was surprised to find his clone already gone.
"How long has he been gone?" Clark asked while rubbing the bridge of his nose. All he received were some light chuckles from the other senior heroes.
"Kid left almost as soon as he could move, seems like he is more than willing to follow our little writer around." Green Arrow stated with yet another low chuckle. Figures that the way to get the kid to work with people would be a super hot novelist.
"You know Superman this could be a very good thing for Conner. He has a hard time connecting with people but having to guard a woman who literally writes about action and adventure could help him express himself. Not only that but at the very least we'll get to see him get all flustered through video feed." Batman stated smiling at the very thought of a blushing Superboy.
"I suppose you're right. Still I'm concerned that he'll lose his temper and cause some serious negative press." Superman stated knowing it was very possible. At least he did until J'onn spoke up for the first time since the woman called them.
"I wouldn't worry, I have seen that woman before and there is no doubt that she is more than capable to beat Superboy if he got out of hand. She is a master warrior and strategist." The Martian stated calmly.
"Wait you know her? Why didn't you say so sooner? What can you tell us about her and why are there no records or her being a soldier?" Superman asked in disbelief.
"Yes I met her a long time ago of course that world was different from this one. I didn't mention it because she didn't seem to notice me and I feel like she should be the one to tell you about who she is. However there is no record because she wasn't a soldier in this world but a different dimension. However that is all I will tell you." Once again his voice was calm but there was a clear note of authority that made it clear he would say nothing else.
Looking at the others Superman simply sighed before moving over to the computer and starting a search for anything and everything related to the woman his student would be guarding. Soon the others joined him and they settled in for a long night for information gathering.
Superboy had to admit his control was getting batter. He had gone to his room to pack only to find his team already there going through everything deciding what he would and would not need for his mission. Even his ex-girlfriend was there. Still he didn't want Superman to get pissed at him when he was finally admitting that he was proud of his clone so he tolerated the serious breach in personal space.
However that was three hours ago and now he was ready to kill them. Not only had they questioned him and made him practice his conversation skills but they also made him try on multiple outfits to see which would look best on him. All the teen wanted was to bash his head against a wall he didn't care what colors made his eyes pop, he was a guy damn it! So when he heard the zipper of his bag get drawn shut he all but shoved everyone out with a growled thank you.
Slouching against his door Conner considered torturing his team mates but decided against it. In some stupid kind of way they were trying to help and that meant something to him, even if their help was completely unwanted. He knew how to pack he wasn't stupid. Still he wasn't as stressed about being so close to Taisho as he had been before and he couldn't help but wonder if that was why Aqualad even let them in his room to begin with.
Flopping on his bed the young hero considered what his undetermined future would be like now that there was going to be a beautiful woman attached to his hip. He grinned it was going to be an adventure that was for sure. He got under the covers after stripping down to his boxers before falling into a light sleep.
It wasn't until his alarm was going off that he opened his eyes again. Looking around he smashed the unfortunate device before getting dressed for the day. Of course the girls had laid out an outfit for him to wear that would make him even hotter. Their words not his. So grabbing his bags he made his way down for breakfast. Conner made a point to ignore the surprised expressions on the adults faces, so he wasn't wearing black that didn't mean they had to stare.
After eating his meal at record breaking speeds he grabbed his stuff and left not wanting to sit through another one of the girls practice conversations. Heading back to the Forbidden Publishing he walked right in and met with the same receptionist. Seeing her smile she told him to take the elevator to the top for as it was Miss Taisho's office.
Doing as he was told he entered the spacious lift and watched as the doors closed. It wasn't until he was half way up that he realized he didn't get a number for which office was hers. Feeling more than a little foolish he decided to ask the first person he saw even if it hurt his pride. However once he stepped off the elevator he realized the entire floor was hers. Seeing the single pair of massive wood doors he gently knocked.
Almost instantly her voice rang out from a small yet beautiful speaker telling him to come in and join her in her lounge. Doing as she asked Conner entered the office only to feel like he was in a whole new world. It was rich and oriental. It screamed sophistication and power while still being feminine and classy. Walking further into the office he felt like he was in a pent house suit more than her place of work.
"I see you managed to find your way. That's good some people have a tendency to get lost in here. Please have a seat." Her voice was soft and polite. The hero could help but be curious as to why it was so different from the first time they had met.
"Thank you. You office is quite unique, I've never seen anything like it." The teen made a point to keep his voice soft as opposed to its usual harshness.
"Yes I imagine it is. I styled it after my late friend's office as well as my own preferences. Now about this bodyguard position you're in, I have no problem with you doing so as long as it is done properly and with tact. You will wear a uniform, which I have provided and you will be by my side both privately and publicly. You will join me and my functions as well as aid me around my home. Is this acceptable?" Her voice was like bells and he had to focus on what she was actually saying.
"Seems more than fair to me, where's the uniform, I'll change right away." His tone was light despite his fear of being forced to dress up like an idiot.
"It's in the bathroom, just go down the hall and hang a left. The doors all have their purpose on them. Oh and don't worry it's nothing bad." Kagome said with a giggle.
Once he was out of sight the miko shook her head. What was wrong with her? She told herself she wouldn't get involved yet here she was and not only that but she gave information about herself to the damn League. Still since she knew that they wouldn't let her just fade into the background after this she figured she could practice opening up with the boy that would be her personal guard. Just than a large crash had her rushing to the bathroom.
Swinging the door open she was met with the sight of a trashed bathroom and a more than embarrassed Superboy. It would seem that he fell resulting in a domino effect. Knowing he probably tried to stop it only making it worse caused a small smile to make its way onto her face. Shaking her head the miko leaned against the doorway only to laugh at his next words.
"I can pay for that."
