Paul sat in the passenger's seat of the car as Hunter drove on the road towards California. He tapped his fingers against his forehead and stared out the window in frustration. "We are way behind schedule."
Hunter just stayed silent and glared at the windshield. Paul rolled his eyes with an exasperated sigh. "Oh boo hoo, you lost your girlfriend. The whole world is just over, isn't it?" Said Paul. "Well let me tell you something, it's going to end if you don't do your job and get me to California. Now suck it up, and get over it. People die all the time."
Hunter once again just remained silent, not even acknowledging Paul's voice.
"Fine, be like that," said Paul. "You'll grow up eventually. Everyone does. You grow up, or you die."
'Just ask Eve,' thought Paul, before huffing and looking iut the window again.
Meanwhile, Jeff and Phil walked alongside Seth, heading towards South Lodge community. Jeff kept one eye on him the whole walk, just waiting for him to pull his gun or attack them.
"So, where are you two coming from?" Said Seth.
"We've been all over," said Punk.
"Ah, wanderers," said Seth. "I was a wanderer once, just like you. Running through the forest, not knowing what to do, where to go. Until I met Dean."
"Dean?" Asked Jeff.
"Dean Ambrose," said Seth. "He's our leader. He took me in when South Lodge was just starting up, and he made it what it is today."
"Sounds like quite a guy," said Punk.
"He's the smartest man I've ever met. He'll come off a little rough around the edges at first, but once you get to know him, you'll love him," said Seth. They walked for just a little while longer before reaching the community, and Seth led them through the gates.
Phil and Jeff looked at all the people walking around and going about their day.
"They all look so, happy," said Jeff, with furrowed brows.
"But of course, no one is unhappy here," said Seth, looking at Jeff with a smirk. "Different?"
"Weird," said Jeff.
Seth chuckled. "You'll get used to it." He continued taking them on a tour of the community, showing then the houses and food storages, then stopped in front of a warehouse. "Now, we don't have many rules here at South Lodge, but the biggest one, is never go in the warehouse."
"Why not?" Said Jeff, staring at the building.
"We skin animals for food back there, not a nice place to be," said Seth, before clapping his hands together. "Well, let's go see Dean and get you two situated."
"Situated?" Said Jeff, raising a brow.
"Of course! We'll fit you right into our community," said Seth.
"We're not staying," said Jeff, crossing his arms.
"I see," said Seth. "Well then, situated for the night."
As Seth walked away, Phil grabbed Jeff's elbow to stope him. "Why don't you want to stay?"
"We can't stay in one place," said Jeff.
"Jeff, we'll be fine," said Phil, running a hand down Jeff's side. "We can stay here, this can be it. We can make a life here."
"Because that worked so well the last time," said Jeff, crossing his arms.
"Just give it a shot," said Phil, grabbing Jeff's hand and following Seth. Jeff sighed and walked with him.
They walked to a large building that looked like a factory and up to an office. Seth knocked on the door before being told to come in. They entered the office and saw a man with scraggly brown hair sitting behind a desk. "Well, who have we got here?" Said Dean.
"This is Jeff and Phil," said Seth. "I found them in one of our storage units."
Jeff raised a brow as he studied Dean. He wasn't sure what to make of him yet, but that sly smile made him uneasy.
"Well, we're always happy to welcome new residents," said Dean.
Jeff was about to say something but Phil gave his hand a gentle squeeze and he sighed softly.
"Please, get them housed, would you Seth?" Said Dean.
"It'd be my pleasure," said Seth, before escorting Jeff and Phil out. He led them to one of their shelters and gave them fresh new clothes to have. "Go ahead and get settled in," said Seth. "I'm sure you'll find your stay here more than satisfying."
Phil looked at Jeff after Seth left. "So, what do you think?"
"I don't like it here," said Jeff, sorting through the new clothes on his bed.
Phil raised a brow and crossed his arms. "Why not?"
"Something's not right," said Jeff. "I want to leave."
"We can't just leave," said Phil, walking closer to him. "It's safe here."
"We were safer out there than we are in here," said Jeff, turning to face him.
"What are you talking about?" Said Phil, a confused look on his face, as Jeff went to look out the window. "I know you don't like being stationary, but where is this all coming from?"
"It's not right," said Jeff, watching all the seemingly too happy people.
"It's fine," said Phil, walking over and cupping Jeff's cheeks, giving him a peck on the lips. "Don't be so paranoid. Not everyone wants to kill us."
Jeff smirked a little and pulled away. "I don't know."
"We've been here for an hour, give it a chance," said Phil, sitting on the bed as Jeff sorted through the clothes.
"Whatever," said Jeff. "If we die it's your fault."
Phil smirked. "If we die, I'll take full responsibility."
Jeff smirked at him and looked down at the clothes. "They have horrible clothes."
"Oh no, they have a bad fashion sense, I guess we have to leave," said Phil. He reached over and pulled Jeff down on top of him as he giggled.
Hunter continued to drive silently before pulling over a few hours later next to some large buildings behind a big fence.
"Why are we stopping?" Said Paul.
"I'm tired," grumbled Hunter, shutting off the truck.
"We don't have time to stop!" Said Paul. "We should already be there!"
Paul continued to rant but Hunter tuned him out and squinted his eyes at the village. "Shut up."
"No, I will not shut up!" Said Paul. "I-"
"Shut, up," said Hunter, seeing movement by the buildings. They were silent for a few minutes before Hunter spoke up. "There's people over there."
"Who cares, we need to ge moving," said Paul.
"They could help us," said Hunter, getting out of the truck.
"You have got to be kidding me!" Whispered Paul, following him. "We are already way behind schedule-"
"Sshh," said Hunter, as they squatted behind a bush, watching the people.
"Oh, now we're squatting, great," said Paul.
"I gotta make sure they're friendly," said Hunter.
He watched as what looked like two men walked up to a building. "They'll be converted, I assure you," said the first man.
"They better," said the second one. "I don't want two rebels here. We don't need them finding out."
"They won't, I promise you. And if we can't conver them, more zombie bait. What have we got to lose?"
"Just make it happen."
Paul stood up as the men walked away. "Well, look at that, they're not friendly. Let's go."
"We're getting in there," said Hunter, getting up and walking to the fence.
"Are you serious?!" Said Paul, as Hunter shook the fence to test it's sturdiness. "What on Earth would make you want to go in there?!"
"They have two people," said Hunter. "That could be Phil and Jeff."
"You're still on this?!" Said Paul. "They're dead! Get over it!"
"Amy could be in there," said Hunter softly.
"You are out of your mind!" Said Paul. "Let's just get back in that car, and-"
"Be quiet," said Hunter, glaring into the town. "We're getting in there."
Phil held Jeff after they were done, gently running his fingers through his hair. "See, isn't it nice to have a bed again?"
Jeff smirked. "I have to admit, the sex is better in a bed."
Phil pecked his lips and snuggled him closer. Jeff sighed softly and ran a finger over Phil's chest. "Do yoy think the group's ok?"
"I'm sure they're fine," said Phil, before getting a small smirk. "I remember when you hated the idea of groups, and now you miss them."
Jeff smirked. "I guess I've changed."
"Yeah," said Phil, intertwining their fingers. "You have."
"You've changed too," said Jeff.
"Yeah?" Said Phil.
"Yeah, you're not as much of a bitch anymore," said Jeff with a smirk.
"Alright," said Phil, rolling over on top of him and tickling him. "You asked for this."
"Stop!" Said Jeff in between laughs, trying to push Phil off. Phil chuckled and got back off of him, pulling him close again. They began to doze off, until they heard gun shots coming from outside. Jeff immediately got up and looked out the window.
"It's probably just a zombie," said Phil. "And it sounds like they took care of it."
"Why would there be a zombie if the walls are secure?" Said Jeff.
"Maybe it was trying to break through the walls," said Phil, getting up and walking over to Jeff. "I'm sure it's nothing, just come back to bed."
"No," said Jeff, grabbing his clothes and getting dressed. "Something's wrong."
Phil sighed and got dressed before following Jeff out into the courtyard. Several others were already out and Seth was speaking to them. "Calm down everyone. I assure you, we've taken care of it. Just go back to your rooms, everything will be fine."
The people started to file back into their shelters as Jeff and Phil walked up to Seth. "What happened?"
"Two people were trying to break in, but don't worry, we took care of it," said Seth.
"I thought this place was safe," said Phil, raising a brow.
"I assure you, this place is completely safe. This is the first incident like this we've had and no damage was done," said Seth.
"What'd you do to them?" Said Jeff.
"We handled them," said Seth. "Now please go back to your room, and get some rest. Everything is fine."
Jeff raised a brow but walked back with Phil. "I told you something's wrong."
"Nothing's wrong," said Phil, hugging Jeff when they got in their room. He kissed his forehead before pressing their foreheads together. "We're fine, I promise."
Jeff sighed softly. "Ok."
