Jeff was taking a walk through South Lodge the next morning while Phil. He told Phil he'd just wait in the house for him, but he wanted to check something out. Jeff walked back to where the warehouse was, eyeing it suspiciously. He didn't buy what Seth said about it, that it was just the animal skinning place. There had to be something else there.
There was a huge lock on the front of the door and Jeff walked up to it. He held and ran his thumb over the combination. 'This is a heavy duty lock for skinning animals,' thought Jeff. He furrowed his brows, hearing noises coming from inside. As soon as he leant his ear against the door, he felt someone pull him back.
"Jeff!" said Phil, pulling him away from the door. "What are you doing?"
"There's something in there!" said Jeff, pointing at the door.
"Of course there's something in there that's where they kill animals," said Phil. "It's probably a cow or something."
"That's not a cow," said Jeff.
"What are you so freaked out about?" said Phil, brushing Jeff's hair back.
Jeff leaned into his touch and looked toward the door again. "It's not right here."
"Look, if you're so concerned, we can go," said Phil.
"No," said Jeff. "We're not leaving."
Phil got a confused look. "But I thought you wanted to leave?"
"They're hiding something," said Jeff. "I need to know what it is."
"Why?" said Phil. "Why can't we just run away from the danger for once instead of charging head first into it?"
"More fun this way," said Jeff, smirking at him.
Phil shook his head and crossed his arms. "How are you still alive?"
"Talent," said Jeff, walking past him. "Where's breakfast?"
Hunter awoke the next morning, seeing total blackness. There was a blindfold over his eyes, and he felt a gag in his mouth. His hands were bound tightly above him and he was on his knees. Hunter felt his heart pounding and he groaned softly. As soon as he did he heard someone else start mumbling desperately.
"Paul?" Hunter grumbled through the gag. A door opened and he gritted his teeth at the sound of metal scraping against metal. He could see there was some light that came in, but still couldn't make anything out.
Hunter felt someone pull the gag out of his mouth and then felt a hard slap. He turned back to where he assumed the person was and almost snarled. "Who are you?"
"That's what I should be asking you," said the man.
Hunter stayed silent as he heard the person shuffling through what sounded like metal.
"Not a talker huh? We'll fix that," said the man.
Hunter heard him walking closer, and let out a muffled yell when he felt something slice over his stomach. As soon as he did so he could hear Paul start flipping out.
"Quiet!" yelled the man, and he heard Paul scream louder.
The man grabbed Hunter's cheeks and held a sharp metal object against his throat. "Who are you?" He pulled Hunter's gag out and Hunter glared through the blindfold. "I'm not telling you shit."
He felt a harsh slap before the knife was brought back against his throat. "I asked you, a question."
Hunter stayed silent again and the man chuckled. "This is gonna be fun."
Phil watched as Jeff changed after eating breakfast. "You know, I'm starting to miss that skimpy outfit."
Jeff smirked at him and pulled his shirt on. "You're such a perv."
"Oh don't even," said Phil. "You are way more perverted than I am."
"Am not," said Jeff.
"I'm pretty sure it was you who tackled me in a tent and only wanted me for sex," said Phil.
"It's not like you didn't want it to," said Jeff.
"You still started it," said Phil, getting up and wrapping his arms around his waist. "What's the plan?"
"There is no plan," said Jeff, leaning against him. "You should know by now I'm just gonna wing it."
Phil sighed and kissed his neck. "You're lucky I trust you."
"No, you're lucky you trust me," said Jeff, pulling away and walking out of the room. Phil followed as they walked to Seth's office. "So, why are we going to see Seth?"
"We're not going to see him, we're going to see his office," said Jeff.
"Won't he be in there?" said Phil.
"Most likely," said Jeff.
"How is this a good idea?" said Phil.
"I'll just cause a diversion," said Jeff. "Then you can go look through the stuff."
"What are we even looking for?" said Phil. "What if there's nothing wrong with this place and we break into his office for no reason?"
"Then we get kicked out, big deal," said Jeff. Phil grabbed his elbow and stopped him from walking. "You're absolutely sure about this?"
"Yes," said Jeff, looking Phil in the eye.
Phil stared at him for a few seconds before sighing. "Ok. Let's do it."
They walked up to his office and stood outside of the door. Jeff knocked and waited for a few moments. "No answer," said Phil. Jeff opened the door and looked inside. "He's not here."
Phil walked after Jeff into the office. "I swear you are the luckiest person alive."
"Watch the door," said Jeff, opening desk drawers. Phil watched him digging through files with a smirk. "You'd make a really hot secretary."
"Shut up," said Jeff, reading a file. His brows furrowed.
"What's up?" said Phil.
"These are the population statistics," said Jeff. "It's gone down in the last month. Like, really down."
"So some people left," said Phil.
"They didn't leave they died," said Jeff.
"What's the big deal?" said Phil.
"Seth said there were no fatalities," said Jeff.
"He made a mistake," said Phil.
"Seth said he's the numbers guy, he could give us population statistics off the top of his head. He wouldn't make a mistake, especially one like this," said Jeff.
Phil walked over and looked at the file. "Does it say how they died?"
"No," said Jeff, looking through more files.
Phil looked up and saw Seth approaching through the window. "Jeff we need to get out of here."
Jeff looked up before putting the files back. "Where do we go?"
Phil looked around before seeing a sealed door in the back of the room. "There!"
They ran into the freezer room and shut the door. Jeff turned around and almost screamed but Phik covered his mouth. There had to be at least a dozen walkers chained by their necks in the back of the room.
"They can't get to us," said Phil, seeing then pulling against their chain, just out of reach.
"No, but they're loud," said Jeff, listening against the door and hearing Seth come in. The zombies were growling loudly as they reached for Jeff and Phil.
"It's a sealed door, it's gotta be sound proof," said Phil. They heard Seth sit at his desk and Jeff groaned, rubbing his arms to try and get some warmth. "He's gonna be in here for forever."
Phil looked around and saw a small window that was letting air in, but it was right above the zombies. "We'll have to wait him out."
Jeff followed his eyes and started to draw his sword, but Phil stopped him. "No. Don't you think he'd notice all his pet zombies are dead?"
"He'd never know we did it," said Jeff.
"You're the only one here with a sword, and guns don't slice heads off. It'd be pretty obvious who did it," said Phil.
Jeff groaned and stared at then for a few seconds. "Why does he even have them?"
"I don't know," said Phil, blowing warm air onto his hands.
"I told you so," said Jeff.
"This is not the time for that!" said Phil.
"Well I did," said Jeff, before sighing. His eyebrows quirked before he looked at Phil. "You have your gun?"
"Yes," said Phil. "But we're not shooting them."
"Why not?" said Jeff.
"The bullet will bounce off the wall and kill us!" said Phil. "It's not happening."
"Do you want to get out of here or not?" said Jeff.
"We can wait him out," said Phil.
"We'll freeze before he leaves!" said Jeff.
Phil took a deep breath and looked at the zombies. "It's too dangerous."
Jeff leant against the door with a pout and sighed. "Why are you such a baby?"
"Well excuse me for not wanting you to die," said Phil, he watched Jeff, and could practically see a plan forming in his head. "Whatever you're planning, stop it."
"Hold my sword," said Jeff, taking off his sword.
"No," said Phil, but Jeff thrusted it into his arms anyways. "Jeff, don't you dare-"
"I'll come back for you," said Jeff, getting as far back against the wall as he could to get as much distance as possible.
"You don't even know if you can fit in that window!" said Phil.
"No better way to find out," said Jeff.
"Jeff, it's too dangerous," said Phil. "You're gonna get yourself killed. "
"Don't worry, I got this," said Jeff. Phil grabbed his elbow and Jeff leaned in to kiss him. "I love you," said Phil.
Jeff kissed him again before backing up against the wall again. He took a running start and used the wall next to the zombies to jump up to the window. One of them grabbed his ankle but he pulled away and squeezed out of the window.
Phil felt his heart stop when the zombie grabbed him but breathed a huge sigh of relief when he made it out. "Are you ok?!"
"Fine!" said Jeff. "I'll distract Seth!"
"Be careful!" said Phil, breathing into his hands again for warmth. Jeff quickly made his way around the building before knocking. He gave Seth a small smile when he opened.
"Well hello there," said Seth. "Can I help you?"
"Yes," said Jeff, biting his lip to think of a reason. "I need, some help."
"What do you need?" said Seth.
"Just come with me," said Jeff, walking away. Seth followed after him and shut the door. As soon as Phil heard the door shut, he burst out of the freezer, sighing happily as he felt some warmth hitting him. Sure, it was still cold outside, but it was a lot warmer than it was in that room. He watched them walk away from the window and waited until they were outside to leave the office.
Jeff led Seth to the warehouse and looked at him. "You skin animals in there?"
"Yes," said Seth. "What of it?"
"What kind of animals?" said Jeff.
"Just deer, cows and such," said Seth.
"Hm," said Jeff, crossing his arms and looking at it. "Anything else?"
"No, why?" said Seth.
"Just wondering," said Jeff.
"Well, I can assure you, the warehouse is not as interesting as it seems," said Seth, starting to walk back, with Jeff following him.
"Why is there a huge lock on it?" said Jeff.
"We don't want any of the animals getting out," said Seth.
"Seems kind of advanced for just keeping animals in," said Jeff.
"We don't want anyone getting in either," said Seth.
"Why not?" said Jeff.
"There's a lot of blood in there, wouldn't want anyone getting sick," said Seth.
"You don't seemed worried about the animals in there getting sick," said Jeff.
Seth smirked back at him as they reached his office. "You ask a lot of questions. I like that. We might have a very permanent place for you here, if you decided to stay."
"Maybe a few more days," said Jeff.
"I hope you'll consider staying with us as long as you can," said Seth. Jeff raised a brow when he close the door and started heading back to his and Phil's house. As soon as he entered Phil hugged him tightly. "Are you ok? Did they scratch you?"
"I'm fine," said Jeff, pulling away.
"Did Seth hurt you?" asked Phil.
"No I'm fine," said Jeff, rolling his eyes. "You don't have to worry so much."
"You don't have to make me worry so much," said Phil, as Jeff walked past him and plopped down on the bed. "What happened?"
"I took him to the warehouse," said Jeff. "He still said it was just for skinning animals."
"Jeff, we need to leave," said Phil, laying next to him. "Whatever those zombies are for, it's not good."
"We can't leave," said Jeff. "What about all these people here?"
"Since when have you cared about others?" said Phil.
Jeff glared. "I've always cared about others. We can't just leave them to die."
Phil sighed. "Jeff, can you not be difficult? Just once?"
"You can leave, I'm not going anywhere until I figure out what's going on," said Jeff.
"I'm not leaving without you," said Phil.
"I know," said Jeff, with a small smirk.
Phil smirked back and pulled him closer, kissing his neck. Jeff sighed softly and snuggled into Phil. "I'm gonna take a nap. Let's go out tonight and cause trouble."
"Alright, if we die it's your fault," said Phil.
"If we die it was probably because of something you did," said Jeff, laughing when Phil started tickling him. "Stop!"
"Take it back," said Phil, climbing on top of him and tickling him relentlessly.
"Fine, I take it back," said Jeff, struggling to push him off.
Phil chuckled and rolled off of him, pulling him close and kissing him.
"You're such a dick," said Jeff, kissing him back.
Phil moaned softly and drifted his hands below Jeff's waist but Jeff moved his hands up. "No I'm tired."
"Woah, you rejecting sex?" said Phil, making Jeff chuckle. "Did hell freeze over?"
"Pretty much, the dead is walking around us," said Jeff.
"Touché," said Phil, kissing Jeff's forehead before drifting off to sleep.
