Hamish twirled his pen in his fingers as he tried his best to not fall asleep on the hard plastic blue chair of his maths room. It was one lesson till lunch and Hamish was looking forward to spending it in the music room, where he would be teaching Harry to play the violin. He had previously only done fifteen minutes with him, and he seemed nice, but Hamish wanted it to go well. He loved having Scarlett around but maybe another friend would be nice. Trios always worked. Harry Potter for example, or Percy, Annabeth and Grover in Percy Jackson. They were all good. Another friend would be good therefore too.

What was the teacher saying? Something he already knew, as always. A genius, they called him. Couldn't a genius take lessons off? Apparently not. He was next to the window, though, and the wind was blowing through the single tree on the road outside. It was kind of pathetic, actually.

The bell rang but he barely heard it. It took Scarlett shaking his shoulders for him to wake up and realize that the world was still turning. She smiled,

"You okay, Mish?"

She had started to call him that and Hamish didn't mind. He actually quite liked it.

"Yeah... Bored though."

"Could you help me with the maths later? I didn't understand it..." she looked upset by this. Hamish smiled in return,

"Yeah, sure. What where you doing?"

"Quadratic equations."

"Hated learning that."

"And when did you learn it?"

"Six and a half."

She laughed and they chatted for the rest of the walk to the music room. Scarlett had a singing lesson which she had made at lunch so she wouldn't miss lessons so she was going that way too.

When they got there Hamish saw Harry waiting . He smiled and waved, saying goodbye to Scarlett as he approached Harry.

"Hello... ummm," Harry shuffled his feet, "thank you for coming."

Hamish smiled," don't worry! I don't have much else to do and... Well, I like the violin."

Harry smiled, "you're really good."

"Thank you, have you ever played before?"

"A little. I can play a few scales and..."

"Hot cross buns?"

Harry laughed, "yes I can do that too!"

Hamish got his violin out and Harry looked at it in slight awe, "how much was that?"

"What do you mean?"

"Youre violin... It's, like, the best model in shops!"

"Oh... Well, if I help my dad's with their jobs then I get some of the money. I saved up for years."

Harry looked confused, "what does your dad do?"

"Dads," he looked up, "that's okay with you right? Apparently it's not to some poeple. It doesn't mean I'm like that and-"

Harry smiled, "it's fine, Hamish. I don't care."

"Okay, thanks. Well they are detectives. Well father is. Dad helps

"Wait- do you mean like Sherlock Holmes and John Watson?"

Hamish grinned, "yes."

"You were in the paper!"

"I know! My room is filled with photos of us."

"That's amazing Hamish!"

"Why thank you. Now," he lifted his violin, "let's start with Ode To Joy. "
