Chapter 2

MADE IN JAPAN

When the Tennyson's were told to meet the plane bring team "K" they didn't expect a large private jet. It was a sleek black with tinted windows and the plumber crest on the side. Over all it felt like they were meeting celebrities instead of fellow alien fighters. Max felt nervous having heard of team "K" but never actually getting their names.

The doors opened and Ben felt his jaw drop with his family following suit right behind him. There standing in all his glory was Kevin E. Levin. His cousin's ex-boyfriend and he was even bigger than the last time he saw him. Gwen didn't know what to do, he looked amazing. Part of her wanted to run up to him and pick up where they had left off before the break up but it was crushed by a female voice.

"Levin have you seen my knife holster? I can't find it anywhere! I can't find my taser either! God damn it where are they?" The female voice carried across the hanger easily and Kevin laughed at the chain of profanity that followed.

"Easy Gome just relax. They're both in the back seat of the car and before you ask your bronze knuckles are in the dash board compartment. So quit ripping the jet apart and get out here so I can introduce you!" His tone was light and playful though all three Tennyson's noticed it was softer and deeper. Soon a second figure was descending from the aircraft and Gwen instantly saw red.

"Guys this is my partner Kagome Higurashi. We've been together five years now and were sent to help you out. Gome this is Max, Ben and his cousin Gwen." The introduction was mostly for the Tennyson's since Kagome had read their files. Still their reactions were quite amusing. Where Max was polite and welcomed her with a smile the others were a little less conventional.

"She's your partner, that's just not fair! Why can't I have a hot partner?" The young hero complained dramatically. Kevin rolled his eyes and tried to hide his anger. Oh how he would love to beat the omnytrix wielder right now. The miko on the other hand cringed at the thought of working with someone so loud.

"Sorry Benny but Gome's mine. Go find your own hot partner to work with." As soon as he spoke the large man brought his arm around the small woman's shoulders. Max was surprised by the open display of affection the once juvenile boy showed and even more so that the "heartless jewel of Japan" allowed it.

Oh yes he knew about her. Kagome Higurashi was considered the greatest and strongest plumber in the organizations history. She was also one of the first employed. It was rumored that she was a direct descendent from one of the first aliens to ever land on Earth. Many claimed the miko was cold, calculating and absolutely ruthless in combat. They said she never kept a single partner for more than a single mission until she met "K.L.".

Max felt a shudder run through him. Half the time people teamed up with her came back traumatized and a shell of their former selves. Yet looking at Kevin as he openly showed his affection the elder man couldn't help but wonder what it was about the young man that made the miko change so dramatically.

"Dude I know why don't we split up? I'll go with Kagome and you can go with Gwen. You know catch up while catching the bad guys? We'll be able to cover more ground that way anyway so what do yeah think?" The excitement was clear in his voice and it made the woman question his age.

"Forget it Ben. If you want to split up and search that's fine but you'll work with me and Gome will work with Gwen. I am not letting someone as trigger happy and hot headed as you work with someone as dangerous as my Gome. You would end up in over your head and she'll have to save you and could end up hurt. So no way Benny, you'll work with me." Kevin's voice was calm and even. It was clear that Kevin was not letting them work together alone.

"Kevin's right Ben, you do end up in some pretty dangerous situations. However Kevin unless we learn how to work together as a team and in pairs we are no good to anyone. Therefore I suggest that we take turns. For normal patrolling she can work with Ben but for higher risk situations she will work with me. How's that sound?" Gwen smiled at Kevin causing the miko under his arm to bristle.

"Bad. If it's a high risk situation I will be with Kevin. I have no intentions of entrusting his life into the hands of an egotistical and hormonal little boy. Kevin is my partner. Now let me make this clear for all of you. We were sent here because you are not good enough to handle the situation. We are not your partners. We are simply here by order so don't go thinking it is anything more than that." With a low yet impressive growl the small woman stalked back onto the jet.

"Ok even though she just totally trashed us I still think she's hot. Still what the hell was that about Kevin? Does she hate American's or something?" Ben's tone was more concerned than insulted. Looking at his cousin he could tell she was furious.

"Does she think she's better than us? I was just trying to help she didn't have to be so rude!" The spell caster snapped.

"Both of you should shut up. No Kagome doesn't hate American's Ben she just doesn't like you guys. Here's a little hint about Gome, she doesn't like anyone but a select few. Those people are her pack and anyone outside the pack is nothing to her. As for your question Gwen yeah she does because she is. Gome is a miko, one of the oldest plumbers and considered the strongest in the organizations history. If you want to survive this mission than I suggest learning some respect. She doesn't care about what you have to say because you're not even on her radar." As he finished Kevin turned and left for the jet completely dismissing them.

Max sighed heavily and dragged the two shell shocked adults away. He was getting to old for this shit but both of his grandkids weren't ready to fight by themselves. They were still too immature. However he knew that Kevin's words were true. Ben and Gwen were nothing compared to her and Kevin would have to be incredibly strong to be her partner.

"I can't believe he said that. We are just as good as she is! So what if she's a miko and supposedly the strongest? I bet Kevin has to save her all the time. I mean he totally took her side!" Gwen was furious, Kevin was supposed to be begging her for a second chance and telling her he needed her!

"Well personally I think it was an instinctual reaction. I mean the Japanese are all about honor and you kinda insulted hers by suggesting she couldn't protect Kevin herself. I mean they are called the best Gwen. Besides Kevin has had that babe as his partner for five years now I think they know what the other is capable of." Both Tennyson's looked at the boy in shock.

"Wow Ben I don't think you've ever sounded so grown up. You're actually acting your age." Max said in awe making the young man huff in annoyance.

"Well I still don't like her attitude. Just because she's stronger doesn't mean she has to act all high and mighty. She's in our home town, on out turf she should be the one showing respect." The red head huffed out.

"I wouldn't hold your breath Gwen. Higurashi has never gotten on well with others. In fact until Kevin entered her life she couldn't keep a partner and locked herself away from others emotionally. I'm sure there's a good reason behind her hostility that we don't know about. After all Kevin seemed to handle the situation just fine." Max explained in a tone that only a grandfather could use.

"Yeah in fact Kevin was actually touching her a lot. If she was as horrible as she seems then he wouldn't have been able to do that and live. I'm sure she was just freaked out about the new environment and having to work with strangers. Just give her some time to adjust." Once again Ben managed to shock them. They just weren't used to "mature" Ben.

"Gome are you ok?" Kevin's voice was gentle. His partner was laying face down on their bed and hadn't moved since the Tennyson's left. He knew something had set her off but there were so many possibilities. It could have been Ben hitting on her, Gwen questioning her ability or even something she detected in their souls.

"The witch wants you back. She craves you and your power. It took everything I had not to lose control. I almost snapped Kevin I almost lost it." Her voice was soft and full of shame. For someone like Kagome losing control was worse than death. It was dishonorable. Instantly Kevin felt his heart race. She almost lost control because Gwen still wanted him; did that mean she saw him as more than a partner, more than pack?

"Gome even if Gwen does want me back I don't want her. I love someone else, someone amazing. Besides even if you had lost control I would have been there to help you and make sure you didn't hurt anyone more than they deserved." The absorbers words were gentle and the miko felt a new wave of tears fall.

Oh she knew Kevin loved someone. It was clear in his soul causing it to shine with a pure vibrancy. Where she could read anyone's heart and soul she couldn't see the names or faces so the woman couldn't see who it was that her partner loved so completely. Whoever they were had to be the luckiest person alive. If it wasn't for the hesitation she felt from Kevin she knew he and the mystery girl would be together already and she would be alone again.

It wasn't that she would blame him when it happened. She loved him far too much for that. However she would do her best to chase off anyone who came to close. She would lose Kevin eventually but she would not let him go without a fight. To make matters worse that witch was still after him. Kagome saw her heart there was no love there for the absorber only want. The girl's alien D.N.A. wanted Kevin for his power and no other reason.

"I know you love someone with your whole heart. It causes you soul to shine like a new born star. I also know that Gwen only wants you for your power though I don't think she realizes it herself." Her voice was muffled by the bedding she was trying to bury herself in. The man smiled at her cute behavior yet he grew worried. He knew she could read hearts and souls but also that she couldn't see who the feelings were directed at.

At first he was relieved she wouldn't know she was the one he loved but now he was worried. It was rare but when the miko felt insecure or scared she would almost revert back to a teenage high school girl. Someone who didn't know battle and simply wanted to know if she looked ok or if the guy she had a crush on liked her back. He wanted to say something, anything to make her smile again.

"If you would like I could prove to you that Gwen can't get me." The plumber felt his cheeks burn. This would change everything. It was time to sink or swim. Kagome was an ocean of everything he wanted in a woman but just like the beautiful sea she resembled she could kill him with a single dismissive wave.

"What do you mean? How can you prove she won't do some kind of spell to take control of your heart?" she had sat up and turned to face him so fast the tears on her cheeks flew onto his hand. It was then and there that Kevin E. Levin saw a woman he had worked with for five years cry for the first time. She was scared, really, really scared that she was going to lose him. He didn't know how he knew but he did so without any fear of rejection the absorber did what he had wanted to for years. He kissed her.

Within seconds her arms were around his neck and her fingers tangled in his obsidian locks. If either had had their eyes open they would have seen a brilliant light envelope them before dying down. However the two warriors were too caught up in each other to notice. Breaths mingled as tongues battled for dominance. Hands caressed and explored yet before things went further their alarms went off signalling an enemy was approaching.

Looking into each other's eyes they both smirked. This would continue after they had beaten down their opponent. Quickly grabbing their gear and keys they shot off the jet and went to their vehicles. Kevin's car sat there waiting for him while right beside it was Kagome's hyper bike. Sharing one last kiss they took off to kick some rouge ass both knowing how the other finally felt and looking forward to where it would lead.

When they arrived Ben was already in alien mode with Gwen, Max and somebody else helping him out. The rouge was a demon, from the looks of it a powerful spider type. The miko shuddered remembering Naraku. God she hated spiders.

Shaking it off she revved her bike cutting in front of Ben just as the demon's head shot out to bite him. Quickly turning her bike the rear tire came around and connected with the beasts head. This resulted in the spider releasing a pain filled howl and charging at the woman.

Before it reached her though it was rammed with a demon bone coated fist. As Kevin continued his assault she pulled out her energy compound bow. It transferred her energy into the metal arrows that were armed with explosive tips. Lining up her shot she called for Kevin and fired. The absorber simply moved to the left easily dodging the projectile. The demon was not so lucky and the weapon lodged itself into its head making the spider turn to ash.

Seeing the fight was over Kagome ran to Kevin's side smiling up at him. This was their routine. She always went to his side after a fight, at first it was to make sure he was ok but soon it was just to be close to him and now it was simply because that was her place. The absorber smiled down at her quickly checking her for injury. Seeing none he looked into her eyes almost like he was asking a question before sending a quick glance at the others.

The only answer he got was a devilish smirk before being grabbed by the collar and pulled into a heated kiss. The miko wasn't afraid to show the world that Kevin was hers and she was more than happy to make the point clear to a certain little witch.
