Chapter Eleven : An Understanding

A. Brandon

Alice sat there in silence as she avoided his gaze while the uneasiness set in as her eyes turned back to the horses in the pasture once more as she sighed and tried to swallow the gripping fear that pulled on her stomach, making it flip over and over. She could feel his presence, and the fact that he was just as silent as she was worried her… what did he have planned for them? What could he possibly want with her now? "Ya know, I always loved horses. I had them when I was just a kid, and my favourite was a black stallion I raised since his birth. He was a gift from my father before he left. My mother hated it, but I spent every waking hour in the stables with that horse. I taught him to come to a whistle, I taught him to take a saddle, and a bit." he explained almost fondly as Alice tried to contain the pleasurable and comfortable shiver that ran through her body as his soft, southern twang strung the cords of her inside.

"Why are you telling me this?" she asked in a whisper as she heard him sigh before stepping again closer to her form as she tried to swallow the fear that trickled through her.

"I sense your fear, Alice." he stated as she turned to look at him, only to curse herself when her eyes spied his handsome physique. His strong jaw, chiselled features, blonde hair, and tall lean figure made him look like a Greek God. How could it be fair for him to be so cruel, yet look so beautiful. His eyes were loaded with defiance and strength and his aura reeked power… but Alice could tell there was something weighing heavily on his shoulders, she just wasn't sure if she wanted to know what it was or not.

By the authority he emitted, Alice knew that she would be bent to his will… simply because despite the small chance she could have had to outsmart him, she would never out power him. She was stuck here until he let her leave… and she could tell for a fact that wouldn't be happening anytime soon. With a heavy heart, her eyes eventually found the gaze of the horses in the pasture once more as her arms wrapped themselves around her legs, and her chin proceeded to rest on her bunched up knees. Like she was curling into a ball, Alice just sat there for a moment in silence as an unbearable lush of sadness came over her.

"You have these dreams, I understand." he started as Alice just silently nodded, not sure what to do with herself in the situation. She'd never been alone with him before, what was she supposed to say? To do? It was obvious both yelling at him and trying to hurt his had yet to work, and she was pretty damn sure anything she said wouldn't have an effect on him anyways, so she was pretty much a sitting duck as far as she was concerned. Alice didn't know what she should tell him, what he would ask, if she should even justify him with her presence. This was the person that had put her entire world on hold, the person that had taken her from her home, and stolen her family from their neighbourhood. He'd destroyed everything for her, and yet here she was. Stuck in the same room as him, debating whether or not to satisfy him and answer his questions, or threaten to make her situation worse by ignoring his attempts at civil conversation.

"I don't know much about your unique gift… and I'd like to change that, so-"

"You can't use me." Alice cut him off suddenly before he could continue.

"What?"

"It's not a weapon… a deterrent you can use to predict your future, to see what's in store for you." she stated as she turned her eyes from meeting his. "You can keep me here for as long as you like, but that won't change anything." she stated, watching his expression change ever so slightly as she continued speaking. "I can't just read your future… tell you how your next plans will play out, it doesn't work like that… I don't expect you to understand." she added as she heard him sigh, yet remain silent to her argument.

After a few moments of silence on both their parts, Alice was suddenly worried whether or not she'd said too much, or not enough. Either way, she had to let him know that he couldn't use her. Part of Alice wanted that to be the reason he'd kept her around, and now that he knew she was useless he'd let her go… but she also knew that she'd never be free of him now. Not after everything she'd seen and heard. "I know you know what we are." he stated suddenly as Alice's voice caught in her throat… her nerves becoming a jumbled mess as she tried to regulate her pulse. "But I know there are questions you have… things that you don't understand just yet." he stated as she shook her head. Just like before, she didn't want to know. She didn't want to believe they were real… because it just made everyone of her nightmares so much worse… so much more realistic.

As her mind set into fear and apprehension, a calming sensation suddenly replaced where the doubt had once been, and a curious but peaceful plain drowned through her system when she shook her head suddenly. The new emotions were still there, but she could feel the old ones as well. "What is that? I've felt it before… like a river of new emotions. I want to know what that it." she stated as he smirked and nodded in compliance.

"Listen close Alice Brandon, I will tell you my story once… and that is all."

lowe101 - why thank you! I've read a lot of stories like this that were like Jasper/Bella, but I just think Alice with longer hair, like her natural/real life hair is prettier and I love her for it. haha. I know what you mean about being too hyper... I didn't like her spastic character with Jasper, it just didn't fit, so I changed it around a little to make them better suited I think, but tried not to change her entire character at the same time ;) hope you liked this chapter as well! let me know what you think!
