Chapter Twelve : Blood Singer
A. Brandon
Major J. Whitlock
"I know Charlotte explained somewhat of what and who we are. But not all." he stated as Alice just watched him with scrutinizing eyes. Watching… judging his every move. "I ordered her not too." he added as her shock seemed to level the emotional playing field between them.
"Why?" she asked, remotely surprised he'd done such a thing. Charlotte was always her liaison. She laid down the rules, brought her her meals, her clothing, kept her entertained, told her stories… Charlotte was really the only connection she had.
"I wanted to tell you myself." he answered simply as she swallowed the lump forming in her throat.
"I don't want to know." she stated as he simply sighed and shook his head. "I don't want to know anymore."
"You have no choice. This knowledge is dangerous… but it is something you must understand." he stated evenly. "Something I need you to know." he added as an after thought. "I assume you know some of the basics. We're faster, stronger. We don't eat, or sleep. Our skin is rock hard, and ice cold. Our senses are sharper, and our bodies never change…" he stated as Alice struggled to wrap her head around his southern twang as his words cut through the fog in her mind like a splash of ice cold water. "I was changed in 1963... The height of the Civil War. I was the youngest Major in the Confederate Army, and I loved everything about my job, and my duty." he stated with pride as Alice's eyes visibly widened at the statement of his age. "I lied about my age to get in, and I climbed to the top through the respectful ranks… I was good at it, and I loved every second. Men wanted to follow me." he smiled slightly at the last statement with fondness in his eyes.
"I was evacuating a small town when I was changed. It was night time, and we were moving the women and children as far from the town as possible. That was when I met her… Maria…" he continued as Alice felt herself flinch at the mention of the woman's name before she recoiled back in shock at her actions, but not before having to force down unexplainable jealousy and anger that flooded her when he had said her name. Which should not have been possible considering everything she'd been through. She had no reason to be jealous at the mention of another woman… she should have been glad there was someone to draw his attention away from her. But yet she couldn't help her own emotions. Looking up, Alice watched as, with a smirk, Red-Eyes went on. "To become a vampire, you have to be injected with venom. It has to pump through your system, and you have to have enough blood left to keep you alive long enough for it to spread. When you wake up, your better, stronger, faster… you acquire adaptations to simplify hunting."
"What do you mean?"
In a flash, the same time it took Alice to blink, he was suddenly face to face with her. Arms supporting his upper body as his face stopped less than two inches from her's. "Faster…" he said quietly, "stronger…" he added, producing a small metal flower, re-crafted from an ornament on her design. "and the perfect lethal hunters." he finally stated, his breath washing over Alice as she tried to clear the haze that filled her mind at his close proximity before doing a double take on his forearm as he held it up for the sun to hit it. His rock hard, pale skin sparkling as he stood in the light of the window, and straightened himself, reluctantly pulling away from the closeness of Alice.
Mesmerized by the sight of his glistening skin in the sun, Alice stood to her feet and approached him slowly, her eyes locked onto his forearm as her hands instinctively reached out and grasped onto his arm, lightly, her fingers tracing over the limb as she looked up to meet his up-close stare before pulling back and recoiling as if his skin and contact had burnt her hands, catching her mistake if only just too late as another sweep of calm tranquilized her tense muscles and nerves.
Grasping her head at the confused signals she backed a safe distance away before daring to meet his gaze again. "What is that? Is that something your kind can do?" she demanded almost angered at the thought of them manipulating every one of her emotions.
"What?"
"You-you confuse me. Like mixed signals… something or someone playing with my emotions… I-"
"Ya are smart darlin', I'll give ya that. Most can't pick up on it as fast as you did." he mused with an entertained expression dancing across his face, almost like giddy excitement.
"What is it?"
"It's believed vampires have special gifts that are reborn with them when they enter this life… mind reading, shields, causing pain, confusion. I awoke with what you call pathokinesis. I can-"
"You alter emotions…"
"Yes. Precisely."
"You've been manipulating mine?" she asked almost shell shocked as she tried to wrap her mind around just exactly what it was he was telling her.
"No darlin'… almost all of them have been your own."
"Can you feel mine?"
"Indeed. I sense your's better than most."
"Why?"
"Ya ask a lot of questions doll." he smirked, his southern accent reappearing more strongly as she took a deep breath to calm her breathing.
"But-but… that anger, that calm, th-that jealousy?" she jumbled as he sighed and shook his head.
"The calm is me. Your emotions are stronger, heightened. And irritatingly they seem to alter my own easier than I care for." he explained as Alice took a deep breath to calm her pounding pulse. "But the anger, the sadness, the fear… the jealousy… that's all you darlin'."
"Why am I jealous? Why do I feel jealous?" she demanded in a panic. "I don't know you. And you-you kidnapped me. I should hate you. And I do, but all these emotions… they're confusing. And they're so mixed and all over the place. Is that you? Is it you making me feel this way?" she demanded again as he sighed before meeting her eyes. Her anger was stronger now, her confusion masking all else as she tried to pick apart every emotion that was swirling around her head.
"I think you should let me explain the rest." he stated as Alice nodded before almost collapsing back into the comfort of her bed as she brought her knees up again to her chest before sitting to watch him continue, leaning against the pillows and her headboard. "When I awoke, the first thing I saw was Maria. She was starting an army. A vampire army for the southern vampire wars. She needed soldiers, and she saw the potential in me. Saw the way I could command a platoon… and needed my leadership to control the newborns she brought into this new life." he continued as Alice's eyes remained pinned to his face, watching the every contour of his ice cold, solid face that showed no weakness and betrayed no emotion.
"Over the weeks and months, I trained all of her newborns, and lead them all into battle. I was unstoppable. I became the God of War, Ares, I was a legend on the battle field, and in war… and people believed it, because it was true. I trained them, I lead them, and I disposed of them when their services no longer became useful. Because of my gift, I had an easier time controlling them, but I also felt all their pain, fear, and bloodlust all the time." he stated. "When Peter came along, we grew close. He was my next in command, and I was grateful to Maria because she let him live. I thought I was in love with her. I thought she was my soul mate."
"Soul mate?"
"They are exactly how they sound. They are mates for life. True love." he stated simply, his eyes taking on a different hue as Alice shrunk away from his intense gaze before he continued. "One night, I received the order to dispose of a young girl that had no longer proved her usefulness. See in the first year of vampire life, your human blood is still in your muscle tissue. You're stronger, more volatile… so Maria saw these newborns as better suited for the army life. When their strength lessened over the course of the year, she ordered them to be killed. All, but me. For some reason my strength never lessened, my strength now, is that of the same as it was when I was a newborn." he explained as Alice just watched him speak. "Peter had spent hours trying to convince me to spare this one girl. That she would be useful, that he would train her to be better, to kill with more violence. But I wouldn't listen. I had orders, and I intended to follow them. That was my job… who I was."
"When it came her time to be executed, he leapt before me, and sent her running off into the night before following her. Hoping to outrun me as he thought I'd follow. He'd tried to convince me to leave Maria's army with him before, but like I said… I thought I'd loved Maria." he said before pausing for a second when his eyes caught those of Alice's unrelenting as he held her gaze before continuing. "But I never knew what love and lust, and adoration and unrelenting faith was until I felt what Peter had felt for this one girl."
"Charlotte." Alice fitted in as Jasper just nodded.
"After that, I couldn't even think straight. I felt every pain, every death, and even hunting pained me. I realized I was only in lust for Maria… not love." he explained. "I left a month after, and followed Peter and Charlotte. A few years later, I made friends in the Olympic coven up in Washington, and then moved back to reclaim my empire here. I have yet to see Maria again after all this time." he finished as Alice just sat in silence, trying to take it all in.
"Why did you tell me this?" Alice asked suddenly, trying to read the expression on his face as he kept it well masked from her.
"Because you're life has become of value to me now. And not just because of your gift." he answered without missing a beat.
"What do you mean? Value?"
"Vampires drink blood, we need it to survive… this was a given as you know." he stated as Alice cringed at the thought. She knew this… she just hated to admit it. "All blood has a different taste, a different smell… on rare occasions, vampires develop an infatuation from the blood from one person. Their scent is above all others in said vampires mind." he continued. "These humans are known as la tua cantante… blood singers."
"But what does that have to do with me."
"A few weeks ago, you met a young man that took your blood to be served to vampires from around the world in a Power Lord meeting." he stated as Alice blanked with her breathing seemed to stop. Like her body wouldn't respond or carry out basic functions. If she were capable of a coherent thought… she imagined she would have been going into shock. "Your blood was one of many served, and just so happened to end up at my table." he elaborated as she felt her face visibly pale at the thought. "You, Alice Brandon… are my blood singer… and that is both a danger to you, and to me."
"Wha- how- you-"
"Your blood calls to me above all else. And I won't lie and deny that I've acquired my fair share of enemies over time. There are people that will use you to get to me. And I will not let that happen. I'm sorry… but you will not be the one to remove me from the head of my empire."
"You're locking me up here because you like the taste of my blood?"
"In a sense… yes."
"So I'm just never going to leave?"
"I didn't say that."
"But it was implied."
"You will be allowed to leave Alice, when I can trust you not to put yourself, me, or my family in danger." he answered. "I wasn't lying when I said you belonged to me. I just don't think you understand fully yet…"
"But… what about?…" she almost couldn't form the words that choked out from her. If her blood called to him so, than wouldn't he take it from her? She'd seen as much from him before in her dreams.
"Yes…" he said, answering her unasked question. "But not now."
"What?" Alice asked in surprise. "Wh-when?" she choked out as the Major turned to leave the room before looking back to answer her million dollar question.
"When you understand."
because I love all my freaking reviewers so much!
FallenAshe - hahaha why THANK-YOU! lol hahaha. did that the major said to alice live up to your expectations? hope you enjoyed it! let me know what you think of their little info-sesh ;)
deltagirl74 - I know... but I find it easier to write Alice's POV because it's a little bit easier where as the Major's is increasingly difficult to capture his rough badass personality with that minimal sweet and compassionate side from Jasper. so maybe as a surprise I will in the near future, but for now... until things even out a tiny bit... I'm afraid you're stuck with Alice. hope you enjoyed this chapter though! let me know that you thought!
Anabeth601 - hahaha im glad you like it! ;p

Wink N Nodd - hahahaha... though that is a tempting idea... no... lol regretfully he does NOT throw her down and take what he wants from her... but I imagine that part will be coming soon. lol. hope you enjoyed this chapter, even though the Major has yet to get what he wants. hahaha. let me know what you thought about the chapter!
blurredrxws - why thank you :p hahaha. I love writing this story, there's so many different ways I can go with the plot! idk about doing a LeahxOC story... that sounds intriguing... and like nothing I've ever considered doing... but I never really favoured Leah's character in twilight all that much regretfully... and because of that little bias I don't think I'd be able to write her and do her character justice as the strong female role, just because i don't like her all that much. if you have any other ideas though I'd love to hear them out! thanks for the review!
you guys are freaking awesome! definitely one of the reasons i love writing the best! let me know what you thought about this chapter!
