I had to shorten this chapter a bit more than planned, but I'm going to post another chapter tonight. (Also, this chapter and the next take a darker turn. After I write the next one, at the end, I'll put a summary of what happened in case you don't want to read it.)
3rd Person POV
Brittany quickly set down her violin, Megan doing the same with her flute.
Panicking, Brittany picked up her radio, phoning into Devon, "Devon! What happened?!"
On the other end, a static came up, "Grab Kara, Griffin, and Megan and come to the shooting range! Now!"
They raced towards the door, opening it and the one across from them, grabbing the siblings, "Blaze! Griffin! Follow us!" Megan shouted.
The group raced towards the shooting range, merging in with the four guys who had left before the tour. They barely had opened the doors before they were barreling into the range. To the right of the door, a guy laid on the ground, red spreading around his shoulder.
"Brittany! Head to the infirmary and grab some stuff to clot up his blood!" Devon commanded.
She raced off and Lexi and Wintra burst through another door.
"Oh-no..." Wintra muttered, bringing her hand up over her mouth.
"What..?" Lexi questioned, her question fading off as she saw the scene.
After a little bit, Brittany burst through the metal and glass doors, a bunch of gauze in her arms. A roll of athletic tape hung off of her finger as well.
Devon snatched up the gauze, applying it to the guy's wounded shoulder. After that, she took the athletic tape and secured the padding to his shoulder.
"Thomas. You and Alex go to the infirmary and get a gurney. We need to get medical attention for him," Devon asked, the two guys running back through the door.
They all stood there in silence as a realization swept through the room.
The boys returned, holding a gurney and another girl following them, a strange gun in hand. She loaded it and pulled the trigger, sending a tranquilizer into the guy. Thomas and Alex hefted the guy onto the gurney. A small object came rolling out of his pocket. No one noticed it until it got to Megan, who stopped it with her foot. Slowly picking it up, she quickly clenched it in her hand, tears welling up in her eyes. She turned and sprinted for the door, heading back to the dorm room.
Wintra's POV
Once all of the people had cleared out of the room except for the siblings, I went up to Devon who was kneeling over the blood stain.
"What happened?" I asked softly.
She looked at me, "It was all my fault..."
"What do you mean?"
"I let him fire my gun. Someone had loaded too much gun powder along with a bullet about twice the size than what the barrel will allow..." She turned her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
"That's not your fault!" I said, trying to calm her.
"Yes it was!" She screamed, "It could have been me who shot the rifle! It could have been me who had been injured! Why wasn't it me!?" She wailed up at the sky.
I felt a surge of confidence, "The past is the past. No matter how hard you try, you can't change it. You could spend your entire life crying about what could have happened, when you can't do anything about it. You need to accept the past as the past, no matter what the outcome..."
She looked up at me.
~Flashback
I trudged into my room, eyes red and puffy. Seto ran over to me and asked me what was wrong. I couldn't reply without bursting into tears.
"Wintra. What's wrong?" He asked me firmly.
I sniffled, "She's dead! I had promised! I let her down!"
I collapsed into his warm embrace. We had been friends since I had left my mother to join this academy. Neither of us had feelings for each other, and didn't ever want to.
"Just let it all out..." He comforted me as I sobbed into his shoulder.
"B-but she's gone..." I whispered, barely audible.
He lifted me up and held me out by my shoulders, "I know this will be hard for you to accept, but you just have to. It's a part of life. The past is the past. No matter how hard you try, you can't change it. You could spend your entire life crying about what could have happened, when you can't do anything about it. You need to accept the past as the past, no matter what the outcome."
I wiped my tears on my arm, "But..."
"I know. It's hard. I had the same thing happen to me. I lost all of my family in a fire. My parents were taking me and my sister here when they got trapped behind a burning branch. I had been walking ahead, my head held proud. I left after I saw my little sister..." His eyes started welling up.
I hugged him once again, "Thanks for the motivation, Dorkface."
"No problem..."
~End
Helping up Devon, I walked with her to the rec room, the siblings trailing behind.
Blaze tapped Devon on the shoulder, "What happened after he shot it?" After a short pause she added, "Sorry, it's probably not a good time..."
"No problem. It sent the bullet back into the shoulder rest, shattering it into his shoulder. I think he passed out from the blood."
Before anyone else could say anything, I saw Blaze and Griffin disappear down the hallway that led to the dorms.
Erm... not the best ending, but hey. Chapter in a little while. Oh, and dat inspirational quote.
