If on August 18th, 2013 you asked me where I was going with this story, I would have provided one of two answers; either I would have said this was some crack-humour fic with high levels of profanity or I would have given you the honest answer of, "I don't know." But here I am now, July 12th, 2014. And I know where I am going with this story, not plot-wise (though I do know where I'm going with that). I'm trying to capture the happiness and pain that Peter Jackson couldn't display on a screen. I'm trying to build friendships that won't break with death, it'll only be taken away for a bit (come on, we all die… 'cept for elves). I said that in this section I'd add more about my character's past, but then halfway through, me and my friend decided that we'd take it to the next level, so we left out the whole past thing until our next level.
The next level is a sequel! Yay! I know, "You still have ROTK to write, and you're going on about a sequel? Is this another empty promise?" No, actually. I have the rest of Ruth's journey laid out and it only gets changed when the movie interferes, and every little hint I've dropped will come to play it's role in the next story. We've got most of the idea for the sequel done, in fact. It's only the matter of writing this story and writing the next that we have to do.
I'd like to bring to light three people who've really been a big part of this story. For plot-development and character help, my good friend Arknox443275 was there. For corrections and chapter-ideas tossing around, I had Tintcalad (my beta) there. Lastly, for the sake of humour and happiness accompanied with the oddness of it, I had lotrharrypotter3 to talk to. Of course, thank you for supporting me on my story and for sticking with me. I know it's cheesy but it's really true, because I wouldn't have made it far without you guys. Seriously, I'd be some weird girl writing this two-review fic that everyone scrolls over.
As uninteresting as all that was, I think I'll let you guys read the other part of this. Here's some question/answer thing I'll do.
Question: Are you going to teach Ruth's friends little things from 'our' world, such as jokes, sayings, pickup lines?
Answer: Yes, in fact, I plan to add the "that's what she said" joke. I've already added Chuck Norris, it doesn't get much better than that.
Question: Are you going to put views from the original characters' point of views?
Answer: Yes to that too! I feel as if I might put them at the end or something like that though, so it doesn't interfere too much with the story, I only put the not-Ruth POV chapter before because it was important for the readers to know how she got to Rohan.
Question: What song(s) would you chose to best describe your story?
Answer: Probably "This is War" by 30 Seconds to Mars and "Home" by Gabrielle Aplin
Question: If you chose someone to play Ruth, who would it be?
Answer: Hm… that's a toughie, probably Elle Fanning, she looks like Ruth, she's about the age of Ruth, I can imagine Ruth talking like her…
Question: Is there a message in this story?
Answer: Um… don't die? No, the message isn't a cat poster "believe" but it has something. Maybe the message is that life is going to be stubborn as heck to screw you over until you want to die, but then it'll be stubborn to keep you alive, it'll show you the brighter things in life and no matter what you're still human.
Question: What inspired you to write this?
Answer: I'm pretty sure it was a dog...no, really. I was walking the neighbor's golden retriever, named Ruth, and it started to yap at these guys dressed in medieval getups. Suddenly it fell into place, then I screwed up and started it again, this time making it better.
Question: What does the title suggest or mean?
Answer: Nothing really, it's a bit of a joke now. I almost want to change it if it weren't for the fact that's all people would search for.
Question: Does this have any relation to your real life?
Answer: Some parts yes, some parts no and some parts aren't my life story. Sometimes I combine them, take Ruth's mother walking out on her. My mother died and my friend's father had walked out on her at the time, so it was a combination of that which created her mother being the one to walk out on her.
Question: Do you see writing as a career?
Answer: Dude, I have my entire life ahead of me, but no, I don't see it as a career, it's more a hobby. I could never imagine it being anywhere else other than this site, I don't really write anything but fanfiction.
Question: Some challenging things in your writing?
Answer: Writing the first chapter. Usually I get this great idea, super, cool, wow, or it's a scene I dreamt up. But then I sit, staring at my laptop and waiting for the first chapter that never comes, then I just give up the idea.
Question: Any advice you'd like to give to other writers?
Answer: When in Rome, be a Greek. You don't have to do something because others are or because others want you to do it. Of course, don't go screaming, "THIS. IS. SPARTA!" Because Rome might behead you.
