Chapter Twelve: Your Fault
"We gotta help him!" Serena cried, shaking Drew softly.
Calem just stood there, inspecting him. "It seems he's been poisoned, by Golbat seeing those bite-marks everywhere."
Drew's clothes were torn, purple liquid saturated in parts of them, he lay on the floor, barely breathing.
Serena piped up, "Poisoned? I think I can help him for while until he gets help, it'll need to be quick though!"
Calem nodded, bringing out his phone and calling Triple 0, the emergency hotline. As they picked up, he immediately answered calmly, "Yes... ambulance and police... critical condition.. emergency... kidnap..."
In the meantime, Serena worked hard, bringing out her antidote's and spraying them all over his injuries. Calem held the phone to her and a paramedic was speaking to her over the phone as the ambulance was being sent. "Yes, this should delay the poison long enough, but hurry, he's on the brink of death. These antidotes will only stop the poison for five minutes, maximum... Okay, thank you!"
Calem sighed as he put the phone down. "Do you think he'll make it?"
Serena looked at the floor. "At this rate, I don't think so. How long did you say the police will be?"
"Not to long, the station isn't too far. Let's hope they come in time," Calem answered.
Gary shook his head in disbelief as he looked at the brunette. "No... no, you're lying! May!"
"I'm not lying!" May half-yelled, "-there's nothing we can do now anyway."
Gary would've continued but Dawn piped up, "Leaf! Leaf, talk to me!"
Leaf mumbled, slowly opening her eyes to see Dawn's cobalt blue eyes above her. "What's happening..." she mumbled, her eyelids half closed.
She sat up, rubbing her eyes and taking in her surroundings, everyone was watching her, Gary coming over. She tried to stand up but as she did, she fell over and found herself not on the floor but in Gary's arms.
"I got you," he said quietly, smiling.
Leaf smiled back weakly, showing appreciation.
Giovanni sneered at the two. "How touching. Too bad he isn't who you think he is."
Misty narrowed her eyes. "What do you-"
She wasn't able to finish her sentence, Paul sprinted over, slamming Giovanni to the ground. "You bastard! You killed Drew, you know what that means? I'll kill you!"
Dawn's eyes widened, she had never seen Paul with so much anger and emotion, she spotted a tear in his eyes as well. He must really care for Drew.
Then she spotted the strange mark she had seen on his shoulder a few weeks ago, it looked ever-so-familiar to her.
"Misty, grab May and Leaf! We gotta get them some medical help right away, let's go find Drew too! He might just be alive," Ash instructed, running over to May and uncuffing her wrists.
"Gotcha. Gary let's go!" Misty called out, gesturing for him to follow. May walked over to Misty weakly, Misty put an arm around her.
Gary nodded, carrying Leaf bridal style towards the door, he turned around and stopped, "Ash, stay here with Paul to beat Giovanni, Dawn come with me!" He returned Scizor.
Ash nodded giving him a thumbs up. "Got it!"
Dawn on the other hand, shook her head, standing her ground. "No! I'm staying here."
Paul gritted his teeth, clenching his fists. "Dawn, go!"
"No!"
"GO!"
Dawn's eyes widened once again, she had never seen this much emotion in his eyes. She nodded slowly, giving in. "Alright." She turned around to look away but looked back, "be safe."
Paul nodded. "Hurry up and go!"
And with that, Dawn left, following Gary and Misty to safety.
Serena tapped her feet impatiently. "How long does it take the damn ambulance to get here?"
"They'll be here any-"
"Drew? Drew, where are you!?"
Serena immediately called out upon hearing the voices, "In here! He's in here!"
Hearing Serena, Misty came in with an arm around one of May's shoulders, Gary came in carrying Leaf and Dawn ran in behind them.
Pushing off Misty's arms, May stepped towards him and nearly fell, Serena catching her.
"May, he's alright for now. Ambulances and police are on their way, they should be here any second," Serena reassured.
"Someone needs to go help out Ash and Paul!" Dawn said, looking at Serena and Calem.
"Do they have any Pokémon that can mega-evolve?" Calem asked thoughtfully.
Dawn nodded, "Ash has his Charizard, I'm not particularly sure about Paul."
The sound of ambulance and police sirens rang through the building, Serena grinned. "Get to the ambulance you guys, one of you bring the police to the top floor. I'm gonna go give a hand to Ash. And Calem, can you give me your Mega Ring for a while?"
Paul sent out his Torterra as Ash sent out his Infenape, both giving a loud battle roar.
Giovanni smirked, "That won't work against me." He threw out two of the cubes that had trapped Gary's Scizor.
"Dodge!" Both Ash and Paul cried out, unfortunately both were trapped in the cube.
"Dammit," they both muttered, returning their Pokémon. Ash tried sending out his next fastest Pokémon, Charizard.
"Fly high in the air!" Ash commanded as Charizard was sent out of it's pokeball. "Seismic Toss!" he cried out, pointing at Giovanni.
"Rhydon, Mega Punch," Giovanni said lazily, throwing out a pokeball. As Charizard came in for the Seismic toss, Rhydon used Mega Punch. Charizard was thrown to the air at the impact, falling painfully on the ground.
"Ash!" They heard someone call from the background.
Ash's mouth fell open as he turned around to see the honey-blonde. "Serena? What are you doing here?"
"Catch!" She threw a colourful stone to Ash who caught it skilfully. Then she threw Calem's Mega Ring.
Ash inspected them in his hands, turning them over. "What are these?"
"Give it to your Charizard, it's a Charizardite Y. If your bond is strong enough, he'll mega-evolve into Mega Charizard Y," Serena explained. Then she smirked. "And I'll use my Mega Charizard X alongside it."
Ash grinned at her. "Awesome! Charizard, take this!" He rolled the stone to Charizard, who picked it up in it's claws. Then, he slipped on the large-bracelet-like ring on his wrist.
"Now, do this," Serena exclaimed, releasing her Charizard. She put her wrist in the air. "Charizard, mega evolve!"
Ash grinned competitively, putting his wrist up in the air too. "Charizard, mega evolve!"
Both of the Charizard were surrounded with power and lights as the mega evolved, both giving an identical battle roar after the transformation. Charizard X and Y side by side in battle, it was truly a sight to behold.
"Charizard, flamethrower!" Ash yelled out, "Dodge the cube things!"
Serena commanded her attacks, telling her Charizard to dodge the cubes too. Together, the two Charizard battled Giovanni, they were actually holding their own.
Gary placed Leaf on the bed of the ambulance carefully, looking up at the nurse, "Will she be okay?"
The nurse nodded. "She'll be fine. Your other friend is in a critical condition though."
Two ambulances had come, the first one had already taken Drew to the hospital. May insisted to go, but she wasn't allowed.
"Do you think he'll make it?" Gary asked, quietening as he spotted May nearby.
"At this rate, no. But he seems like an exceptionally strong man, who knows," she replied.
Nodding, Gary said his thanks and watched on as the ambulance left with Leaf. He looked back at the building and watched the police storm inside, Misty tagged along as well.
Then he looked down at May and Dawn, Dawn was rubbing May's back reassuringly as May fiddled with her bandages. Then he though of Drew who was on the verge of death and Paul and Ash who were still fighting Giovanni.
Gary frowned, sitting on the curb with his head in his arms. How did we even get into this mess?
Misty ran into Giovanni's huge office with police officers. The sight in front of her made her heart sink.
Ash and Serena, battling together like best friends, maybe something more. A pang of jealousy came over her as she ran over. "Ash! You're okay!" She hugged him.
Ash was taken aback. "Uh, yeah. I'm fine, Misty." He smiled. Serena smiled, returning her Charizard. Her smile faltered as she saw Misty giving her a dirty look.
Then Misty realised, she let jealousy take over her. Something that had never happened. What the hell Misty? You just hugged him like one of those weak damsels in distress. And you just glared at Serena. Good job. Serena doesn't even like him! YOU'RE NOT MEANT TO LIKE HIM! She ranted in her mind.
Misty was caught off guard by Giovanni who smirked as the police handcuffed him and pushed him along towards the door.
He came by Misty closely as he was pushed through the doors, "The boys... they're not who you think they are." He said it so only Misty could hear.
She frowned as she watched him leave, wondering what he could mean.
All of the Team Rocket grunts were taken away, one however stayed behind. She was hidden, she wasn't exactly a mainstream member of Team Rocket.
"Yes, your Dad was taken... I have no idea, some girl came and gave Ash a mega stone and they both held him off until the police arrived," she said into her smartphone, watching from a window as the remaining police cars drove away. She looked at the ground, "I-I can't do this! They're meant to be my friends..."
Sighing, she replied, "For you though, I'd do anything. Even if it means betraying them... Okay, bye... Love you."
A stray tear fell from her eye as she put the phone down. "I'm sorry."
Serena, Calem, Misty, May, Dawn, Leaf, Gary and Ash were all taken back to the Kalosian Idol home. Immediately, all of the contestants surrounded them.
Brianna's face fell as she approached them. "Where's Drew?"
"He's at the hospital," May replied quietly.
"What? Is he okay?" Brianna shrieked.
Gary frowned. "It's none of your business."
Brianna glared at him. "Well, sorry for being worried!"
"No one cares!" Gary snapped back.
Everyone went silent, no one had seen him in that kind of mood. He shook his head, "I-I'm sorry. I need some time alone." He walked away and opened the door, stepping outside.
Leaf started to walk after him but she was stopped by Paul, he put his hand on her shoulder as if telling her to stop. She turned around and nodded understandingly as she saw his expression.
Paul and Ash walked out, following Gary.
May fell on her bed, exhausted. "When do you think we'll be able to visit Drew?"
"Probably tomorrow," Leaf replied. Then she frowned, "We need some answers though. Giovanni said all this stuff, he kept asking why they were after us."
Misty frowned. "The boys aren't who you think they are."
"I have a feeling the guys are somehow involved in it," Misty concluded.
Dawn nodded. "I agree. Definitely. What about you two?"
"I'm not sure, I was knocked out most of the time anyway," Leaf said.
"But, Drew would die to save us," May said, "he basically sacrificed himself for me! He can't possibly be bad!"
Dawn sighed, resting her chin on her hands. "Yeah, I guess so. Can we think about this tomorrow? I need some sleep, pronto."
The others nodded. "Sure," Misty replied.
May, Dawn and Leaf soon fell asleep. Misty, however, stayed up for another few hours. She tossed and turned in her bed, thinking about what seemed like everything.
"Gary, are you okay?" Ash asked, concerned for his friend.
"Do I look okay? Drew is in the hospital, dying! And we can't even go visit him until tomorrow. This is shit, how did we even get into all this! We never should've accepted this mission, aghh!" Gary replied, clearly frustrated.
"Well, we did. And now we've got to finish it," Paul replied quietly.
"But what about Drew?" Ash asked, "What if..."
"He dies? I know. We'll have to quit, we'd probably killed at the job," Gary looked at the ground. "I- I can't hurt Leaf. I can't take her to that monster."
All three fell silent.
"Well then, there's only one thing we can do," Paul said bluntly.
Gary raised a brow at his friend. And what's that?"
Paul's eyes narrowed. "Kill him."
It was silent again for a few seconds until Ash spoke, confused, "Who, Drew?"
Paul groaned and Gary face-palmed. At least some things never changed.
The next morning...
Ash burst into Eye of the Liepard's room. "Wake up! We're going to see Drew!"
May rubbed here eyes, sitting up in her bed. "Really? Did you get a phone call or anything?"
"Nope. We're going now to see if he's alright," Ash replied.
Dawn yawned, stretching her arms. "Okay, we'll be down in ten minutes."
Ash pouted. "Ten minutes? That's way too long!"
Misty glared at him. "Stop whining, Ash. We said we'll be down in ten! I have my mallet you know?"
Ash grinned sheepishly. "Okay, I'm out!" He shut the door behind him.
Smirking, Misty stood up. She headed into the bathroom, rubbing her head as her smirk disappeared.
The girls rushed into the car, plopping onto their seats. "What took you so long?" Gary asked, frowning.
Leaf rolled her dark green eyes. "We were only five minutes late!"
Paul sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Shut up. I'm not in the mood."
Dawn, who was sitting next to him, put her hand on his shoulder. "He'll be okay. He's strong, remember?"
"You don't know that!" Paul snapped back.
Dawn quickly took her hand back, looking hurt. "I'm sorry. I was just trying to help," she muttered quietly.
Paul ignored her. "Hurry up," he said to the driver, leaning forwards.
Dawn just looked at the floor, she hated the fact she was being ignored but decided not to do anything seeing Paul's emotional state
May wasn't listening to anything, she completely zoned out, staring out of the window. Her mind was filled with thoughts, It's your fault. If it wasn't for you, Drew wouldn't be in that position, a voice in her head said. She shook her head, No! He'll be okay! Or maybe... he won't. The other voice came in again, the same two words ringing over and over again. It's your fault. Your fault. Your fault. Your-
"May!"
May snapped back into the world, "Wha?"
"We're here, that's wha," Misty said, rolling her eyes playfully.
"Oh!" May opened the door immediately, stepping out, "What are you waiting for, let's go!"
Ash followed her. "Come on guys!"
All of them quickly went up the stairs, entering the hospital. Leaf went up to the reception desk. "Hi there, we're here to visit Drew Hayden."
The receptionist raised her perfect eyebrows. "All of you? Unfortunately, only four of you can visit at a time."
"I'm going first," Paul said immediately.
"Me too," Gary folloes.
"Me three!" Ash exclaimed, sticking his hand up.
Dawn smiled, turning to May. "May, you go too." Leaf and Misty nodded, approving it.
The receptionist interrupted, Uh, sorry- it's room 354."
May smiled, nodding. "Thanks. Let's go, guys!"
"Right!" Ash replied, walking over and pressing the button on the elevator.
Once it arrived, the three boys and May stepped inside, tapping her feet impatiently. It seemed like forever until the elevator reached the right floor.
Gary led the way through the hall way. "Room 350, room 352- here! Room 354!"
They entered the room, all holding their breaths. A curtain was hung around the hospital bed, covering it from them. The doctor approached them, "You must be here to visit Drew Hayden?"
May nodded. "Yes, that's us." Her heart was beating rapidly, she was breathing quickly too.
"Is he okay? Is Drew okay?" Paul asked impatiently.
The doctor had a straight face as she looked at each of them, May's heart sank. Straight faces weren't good.
Then suddenly, she gave a bright smile, "Drew will be alright. He's well on his way to recovery," then she frowned, "however..."

So as you can see, I've decided not to kill Drew. Yet. {insert evil grin} And who is this mysterious girl that is "betraying her friends"? Guess in your reviews!
