Two Years Later
Becks POV:
"GET DOWN! ALPHA 1-3, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! WE'RE GETTING POUNDED TO S*** OVER HERE! RPG ON THE RIDGE! TAKE EM DOWN! USE THE 50 CAL! SNIPER ON THE RIDGE!"
I ducked my head down as a bullet zinged past my helmet. I reloaded my M-16, and briefly wondered how the hell I had gotten myself into this. I looked down at my chest, saw the cross, my protector, and my guardian angels picture. It was my girlfriend, Tori Vega. "I should be with her right now, not in this hell hole in Afghanistan."
I looked around at my squad. 75th ranger regiment, 1st battalion, 3rd company, 1st squad. And we were getting the s*** beat out of us. Ambushed by the mothafuckin Taliban. A***. I looked up to see more insurgents coming to reinforce their lines. The sniper popped up again, and a bullet zinged past my head. I heard a grunt behind me.
"LOGAN!"
I threw myself onto him, and began to tie up the wound with a bandage.
"MEDIC!"
The medic arrived, and began to take care of Logan, and I turned my attention back to my squad and the fight at hand. I got on my radio and began yelling.
"FOB PHOENIX, THIS IS THE RANGERS AT AL-JAIRA MOUNTAIN PASS, CALLSIGN ALPHA 1-1, GRID ALPHA MIKE TANGO 3357. WE ARE TAKING HEAVY FIRE AND SUSTAINING CASUALTIES. I NEED AIR SUPPORT AND MEDEVAC ASAP!"
"Roger that alpha, air support inbound. ETA five miles, out."
"THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH DAMMIT! WE'RE GETTING MADE INTO CROW CHOW AS WE SPEAK!"
"giving you the best I got alpha. Take it or leave it."
I slammed my radio back onto my vest and screamed in frustration. I quickly took up position next to my second in command, Andre.
"ANDRE, GET EVERYBODY DOWN TO THAT CLEARING! EVAC HERE IN FIVE MIKES!"
He nodded, waved his hand in the air for retreat, and we began to pull off the mountain. But we weren't moving fast enough. And the Taliban were quickly gaining.
"ANDRE, GET THE SQUAD READY! I'LL COVER YOU!"
Andre again assembled the men, and quickly got them ready. The old Huey set down to pick us up, while two cobras covered us from overhead. I took off for the chopper, and was reaching out for the chopper, which was lifting off, when a huge pain slammed me in the chest. I flew backwards and hit the ground in a painful daze. I heard my men yelling my name, the chopper, the crack of gunshots and bullets whizzing overhead. But slowly, I drifted off into sleep, but with a white light. I felt myself being dragged somewhere before I fell asleep completely.
"and to think, I was going to see Tori and the gang for the summer in a couple of weeks."
Tori's POV:
Cat and I drove down the long drive of my yard. We had just finished classes. My baby was a few months old. Robbie and Jade had arrived there an hour before from the airport. I slowly pulled up, and smiled. Beck would be in a plane tomorrow, and be here by the afternoon. I couldn't wait. We would all be together again. A perfect family.
We walked into the house, and were assaulted by my parents with hugs.
"Tori, Cat, we missed you so much!"
"Thanks mom, missed you to! Love you momma."
My dad gave us both hugs, and then jade and Robbie walked in.
"JADE!"
I took off for her and wrapped her in a hug. And she stiffly shoved me off. I laughed. Nice to know things haven't changed.
"Good to see you Tori."
"You to jade."
"Man, it seems like it's been forever!"
"Feels like! I can't wait for the boys to get here!"
We all talked and caught up with each other over that night, and decided we would clean up the house and throw a welcome back party for the boys when they got back. Surprise them with it. It was a great idea, and we all quickly made plans for every little detail.
"Tomorrow will be perfect."
I went to sleep happier and more ready to wake up and welcome the next day than I had since beck had left.
We woke up the next morning, and quickly set to work. We went and bought a cake, streamers, balloons, and plenty of other party things. We grabbed a couple of six packs and waited for the call from beck that would tell us he was on his way. Everybody was restless and mingling around. A spring college football game was on, and everybody watched while idly chatting. And I just sat and happily thought about beck and our child. Our son. Carrying him without his father around had been tough. And having a child while in college had been tough. But I had worked hard and beck sent us his checks. I made it through my sophomore year of college and was on track to graduate by my junior year. I smiled to myself.
"He's almost here."
We suddenly heard a car pulling up and parking? Had beck decided to surprise us? We all rushed to hide, and I walked to the door to answer it. I sat on a chair in the foyer and smiled to myself. Beck knocked on the door. I smiled and jumped up to the door. I fixed my hair really quick and opened the door.
"BECK!..." It wasn't beck. It was two officers in full dress uniform. And the pins on their uniforms identified them as chaplains.
"Oh god, please no..."
"Ma'am, are you related or a close friend to Staff Sergeant Beckett Oliver?"
"Yes I am. What's wrong Captain?"
One held a bible. The other a letter. The leader, who held the letter, took my hand and looked me dead in the eyes. I looked at him and saw tears in his eyes. "On behalf of the Army of the United States of America, I am here to express the personal condolences of Major General Shepard."
Tears appeared in my eyes.
"This cant be happening."
"What happened captain?"
"Staff Sergeant Beckett Oliver was killed in action."
I collapsed to my knees, and the entire world spun around. The various other family members appeared, with tears in there eyes. And I was helped up, but I looked to my son. "My son has no father."
And I collapsed to my knees, and everything went black.
I'm gonna try my best to stay on task of updating, but I've been extremely busy since moving back to my home-state, so please be patient. I'll update when I get the chance
