Hello, my lovely shadowhunters ! It feels so good to be back ! I must tell you that I feel so awful for having left you in the dark for so long. Honestly, this has been my first year of college and away from home and it's just been a crazy rollercoaster! I just finished with all of my exams and I really feel ready to continue this story. Also, I've had the worst case of writer's block, but now I'm back with fresh ideas. I might be a little rusty because I haven't written in so long, but, hopefully, I'll get used to it again pretty soon. SOOOO! HOW AWESOME WAS CITY OF HEAVENLY FIREEE? *hyperventilating* Tell me what you thought of it ! I've missed your messages and reviews so much ! I love you all !
The next day..
Clary stood in the dark cold hall in the City of Bones, at least a dozen Silent Brothers circled around her, chanting. She swallowed heavily and her eyes darted nervously around her. No matter how many times one had to deal with Silent Brothers, they never ceased to make chills run down your spine. Their rune-bearing faces shone in the moonlight pouring in through the small cracks in the stone wall, their hollow faces still and expressionless. Jace, Isabelle and Simon were watching silently from afar, afraid even to breathe so as not to break the Brothers' concentration. Simon placed a hand on his parabatai' s shoulder, feeling the strain in his muscles. Jace did not react at all, his eyes fixed on Clary who seemed smaller than ever engulfed by the Silent Brothers in their heavy gray robes.
And then it began. Though Clary was more than willing to let them wander through her mind, scouring every nook and cranny, it still hurt, because it was unnatural-having someone else in your head. She knew that every memory she'd ever had was now flashing through the Silent Brothers' heads like a really long and painful movie- the loss of her parents, her never-ending quest of killing every demon in her path, her marriage with Jace. Jace...
She felt as if a thousand sharp needles were being plunged into her temples at once and she tried her best not to scream. The world around her was getting darker and darker and she felt as if she was being veiled by a nauseating mist, pulling her into oblivion. Her senses were weakened and her whole body was numb, as if she wasn't in control of it anymore.
Clary didn't even realise when she had collapsed to the floor, her hands pulling at her hair, and desperately yelling at the Brothers to stop. Jace ran towards her and kneeled on the floor next to her, trying to get her to snap out of her trance. Though the Brothers had stopped, Clary continued screaming clutching her throbbing head. She was completely sure that she was going to faint or explode into a million pieces. The agony was unbearable.
"Clary, Clary, you have to stop, you're safe now.." Jace tried to soothe her as he attempted to pry her hands from her hair.
"It shouldn't hurt this much, it looks as if she's possesed !" Isabelled yelled.
That's because her mind had been tampered with. The voice of a Silent Brother sounded in their heads.
Clary had finally calmed her screaming, her breathing shallow and uneven as she lay on the cold stone floor. Jace placed her head in his lap, carressing her to calm down.
"What do you mean?!" Isabelled asked feeling as if she was going to faint herself. Simon wrapped his arm around her waist to support her.
We weren't able to see who had been inside her mind, but it is powerful magic, demon magic. Her mind is being controlled and soon enough she might not be responsible for her actions anymore.
"What?! And what can we do?" Jace inquired in a high-pitched tone, his eyes fixating the Silent Brothers angrily. He couldn't help but wonder who would hate Clary so much as to take control of her mind.
We are going to try to discover who is responsible for this, and also, we will attempt to remove the spell. Meanwhile, your wife needs to be kept under observation in the Silent City, as she might be dangerous.
"Clary? Dangerous? She would never hurt us!" Isabelle defended her, while Jace just stared down at Clary who had yet to regain consciousness.
"So, you're going to keep her here from now on ?" Simon spoke for the first time, still trying to process the whole situation.
That is correct.
"Absolutely not." Jace thundered.
"Jace.. it's for her own good-" Simon began.
"If it were Isabelle, would you leave her here? Alone?" Jace barked, his head snapping in Simon's direction who just looked at Isabelled and swallowed nervously. He shook his head. Jace grunted.
I'm afraid you don't have a choice in the matter. She is staying with us, as she may be a threat to all the shadowhunters in the Institute.
Jace opened his mouth to speak when he felt Clary stir in his arms She groaned and lifted her head, looking around them with confused eyes.
"How do you feel?" Isabelled asked.
"Like my head has been banged against a wall for a thousand and one times." Clary whined tiredly."Can we go home now?" she begged, her green eyes looking at Jace pleadingly.
After she had been told of the Silent Brothers' discovery Clary actually felt relieved. She wasn't going mad. There finally was an explanation. She willingly agreed to stay in the Silent City and let the Brothers do anything in their power to help her get rid of the nuisance who was insisting on ruining her life. She also couldn't wait to kill them personally and blame it on the neighbour's dog.
"You shouldn't worry about me, I'm in good hands." she assured Jace, who was still reluctant to let her go.
"But I won't be allowed to see you.. they said that any distractions are forbidden.. I.. I can't leave you here!" Jace groaned in frustration, rubbing at his tired eyes. Clary kissed his chin and grabbed his hand."The sooner we do this, the sooner I'll be able to come home to you. And maybe we'll even finally have our baby. The Silent Brothers said there's nothing anatomically wrong with any of us, so.. it might be the spell."
"When I find out who it is, I'm going to personally slaughter them." Jace hissed.
"Not without me, love." Clary smiled encouragingly.
"Never without you, my Clary." Jace whispered as he leaned down to press a goodbye-kiss on her lips.
