Author's Note: Hi everyone! So sorry for the delay in writing. Life has been incredible hectic. I promise to try to do better, though I'll probably end up only posting a chapter a week until things settle down a bit more. Thank you for all of the support, reviews, and PMs checking in on me. I know this chapter is short, but I wanted to put something up to let you know that more will be coming soon.

Chapter 13:

Logan woke slowly, a bit disoriented to be waking in his own bed again. As he sat up, he saw that Jubilee had moved away from him in the night to sprawl out across most of the bed, leaving him only a sliver of it. He shook his head as he slid his legs out from under one of hers. He glanced at the clock. It was close to 5 p.m., later than they'd been trying to wake. He smiled to himself and looked back at the still body on his bed. Well, it hadn't been like they'd gotten much sleep. He headed into the bathroom to grab a quick shower until he noticed that the shower curtain was ripped from the rings. His smile widened. That was right. He'd been pretty insistent about showing her what taking a shower together should really be like. He washed up the best he could in the sink and dressed in the bedroom before moving back out to the living room. He could hear Jubilee beginning to stir as he closed the door.

Laura had been sitting at the kitchen table sketching something out, and she looked up when he came into the room. She wrinkled her nose and complained, "You could have at least been quiet. Some people were trying to sleep."

He just laughed, letting the grin remain on his face as he poured himself some of the stale coffee she had made earlier in the day. At least it was still hot. He spun one of the chairs around to straddle it as he commented, "If you're feeling lonely, I can help you fill out an online dating profile."

She just rolled her eyes at him and went back to what she was doing. He took his time sipping the coffee and watching her draw, her brows knit together in concentration. Finally, he asked, "Whatcha doin'?"

She didn't look at him and only made a couple more swipes with her pencil before responding, "Making you a map to your light bender." He grunted in response and took another long drink, tipping the chair forward so that he could lean further across the table. "We'll have to go overseas to get it, but I figure you wouldn't mind." He grunted again, studying the maze of lines. It didn't appear to make much sense to him at this point since many of the corridors appeared to be dead ends without any entry points. He rested his chair back onto all four legs and finished the coffee before getting to his feet.

"Hungry?" he asked as he pulled open the refrigerator door.

She didn't glance up from what she was working on, "Let's eat in town. I've just been waiting for you and sleeping beauty to head in."

He glanced over his shoulder at her, noting that her tone was a bit more bitter than he would expect and letting the door drift closed. "Sure," he murmured, his own brows drawn together as he studied her, but she still didn't look up at him. "Let me just get Jubilee moving."

The town was small, so there weren't a lot of options for food. Laura pointed to the roadside diner, and Logan obediently turned the truck into the lot to park. There were only a couple of vehicles there since the dinner rush had ended. The bell above the door tinkled cheerfully as they entered. There were a couple grizzled men sitting at bar stools along the counter, a couple with a fussy child in one of the booths, and at the far end, a man sat with his back to them, his auburn hair streaked with gray.

Laura led the way toward his table, calling out, "We're here" when she was still a few steps away. It gave him time to rise, using a cane to support his weight as he turned to face them. Jubilee managed to trip over her own feet as she realized who it was, though Logan quickly steadied her.

He looked older. His face was lined and his eyes tired. He wore a dark colored turtle neck sweater and jeans covered by a long, tan trench coat. Despite the fact that he'd obviously aged, he was still attractive, though he wasn't wearing his normal devilish grin. Instead, his lips were set in a thin line, his black eyes with the red pupil narrowed and focused on Jubilee as she approached. One hand gripped the cane, and the other remained inside his coat pocket. She watched as Laura stepped next to him and leaned up to press a kiss to his stubble-covered cheek. His gaze didn't waver from Jubilee though he slid an arm around Laura and murmured a hello.

Jubilee swallowed hard, and it took all of her self control (and the fact that Logan's hand was still on her arm) to keep her from turning tail and running. Logan took a step forward, dragging her with him, and said, "Gumbo! Laura didn't tell us you were here."

Remy LeBeau only raised an eyebrow at that, finally turning his head to look down at the girl standing close by his side, "Shame on you for dat, Laura," he commented before gesturing toward the booth. He remained standing, his gaze remaining on Jubilee as she squeezed into the other side of the booth, Logan slipping in on the end. He and Laura slid in across from them, and there was an awkward silence as Logan and Laura's gazes drifted between Remy and Jubilee, while Jubilee stared fixedly down at the paper menu in front of her.

The silence dragged on for an incredibly long time before the waitress approached and was given an order for coffee all around by Logan. When she shuffled off, the silence returned. Laura finally sighed and rolled her eyes, "Will you just freaking apologize to him already? God knows you owe him at least that."

Jubilee looked up at Laura and finally returned her gaze to Remy. She swallowed hard, wishing the waitress would return with the coffee already. Her throat felt so dry. She bit her bottom lip, her fangs breaking the skin without her even realizing it until she felt a warm, rough hand take hold of hers. She glanced over at Logan to find him studying her as well. When she met his eyes, he squeezed her hand and nodded encouragement. She dropped her gaze back down to the chipped formica of the tabletop. What the hell did you say to someone when you'd turned your back on them to let them die?

She took a deep breath and slowly let it out, trying to ignore the clear feeling of disgust and impatience coming from Laura. Well, that truce had lasted long. Finally, she looked back up to meet the Remy's eyes. She expected anger and hatred, but instead, he just seemed to be…waiting? Yes, his body was tense as if he might expect her to freak out at any moment, but he didn't seem angry, just a little sad. She took a deep breath and licked her lips, but when she opened her mouth again to speak, it simply hung open without any words escaping. She clamped it closed again in frustration. How the hell could she just say, "Sorry, dude. I know I just left you to die the last time I saw you, but I hope everything's cool now." She ground her back teeth together and stared at him helplessly.

Luckily, the waitress returned to set down their coffees and to take everyone else's food order. Jubilee returned her gaze to the tabletop, feeling more weak and helpless than she had since she really had been a teenager.

When the waitress walked off again, Remy spoke up, "So did Laura tell you what need to be done?"

Laura slammed a fist down on the table, causing a few others in the diner to glance their way. She ignored them, spitting out, "No way. You aren't going to just let her off the hook like that. We aren't going to pretend she didn't-"

Remy cut her off by placing his hand on her fist. He shook his head, meeting her eyes before glancing back at the top of Jubilee's head. "We need to plan, cher. All t'ings come wit' time. Dat will, too. We got more important t'ings to worry 'bout right now."

Laura growled in frustration, but she quieted, just turning her glare back on Jubilee as Remy began to lay out their plan.
