Make sure y'all read the A/N at the end; there's some bad news for some people. :( This was prompted by Julia (Guest)! Sorry it took so long!
Patricia closed her eyes to keep back the tears that were threatening to leave the comfort of her green orbs. She couldn't believe that she would start crying over this; but it made sense. Her parents never paid her as much attention as Piper. Piper was always the better twin in her parents' eyes, but they tried to convince Patricia otherwise; and tonight was confirmation that they'd never love her as much as Piper.
If Piper had walked into the restaurant with an American and said he was her boyfriend, Patricia was sure they would have been happy to meet him. But it wasn't Piper that had brought her boyfriend to meet her parents.
The awkward silence at the table was deafening and no one did anything to break it.
Patricia felt a familiar hand slip into hers and wrap their fingers around hers in comfort. She opened her red-rimmed eyes and smiled at her boyfriend.
"Oh, honey, what's wrong?" Kathrin asked sweetly, patting her daughter's hand in a way she found comforting.
Patricia took her hand off the table and scratched her cheek.
"Yacker," Eddie whispered into her ear. "You never let anyone tell you what to do; don't let this situation be any different.
"Lean away from my daughter, boy." Jeremiah warned over his glass of water.
Eddie gritted his teeth and did as the man said, but he couldn't keep his anger from boiling in the pit of his stomach. The minute he greeted the Williamsons, they shunned him, as if he was an alien, and he hated it. Why did they hate Americans so much?
"Mum, dad, listen, okay?" Patricia began, gripping Eddie's hand just a little tighter than she meant to. "I don't care if you have a certain disliking to Americans, I really like Eddie. And this is the real problem; if Piper was the one here, with her boyfriend, who turned out to be American, you two would do your best to except him. Why can't you except Eddie?"
"Because Piper's American boyfriend will be going to Harvard for college in the fall." Kathrin replied easily.
"Piper has a boyfriend?"
"Yes, we met Caleb a few weeks ago; he's a very nice boy."
Patricia frowned. "Fine, then, we're leaving." She huffed, grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. "Come on, Slimeball," Eddie stayed where he was seated and didn't even look up at her. He kept his eyes on glass in his hand.
"Patricia, I really think you should talk to your parents about this. Work it out." He said simply.
Her parents' eyes briefly landed on the blonde, showing their surprise, before they flitted back to their daughter in expectance. Patricia swallowed and took a deep breath, sitting down slowly; she didn't want to do this. She wanted to leave and dread the day when she'd have to face her parents again, but she also knew that Eddie wanted to make sure everything was right between her and her parents before they got up and left. They could leave before dinner was over, but they couldn't leave while they were still fighting about it.
"Look, mum, I know you want me to have a good future and everything, but I don't think that far ahead. I wanna live awhile. And Eddie is, honestly, the way to do that. Piper likes to think ahead, she likes to plan everything out, and if she wants to have her life served to her, then she can do that, but I'm not like that. I want to figure things out and live the way I want to. I really like Eddie, and he may not be a Harvard graduate one day, but he's already someone really important, to me and our friends. Please, stop trying to run my life. Why can't you see what I see?" She sighed in exasperation. "You guys have always cared about Piper more, try to care about me."
"Honey, I had no idea that's how you felt." Jeremiah said in concern.
"Well, it is…" she murmured, looking down. She didn't want to feel weak, but she did. She had spent her whole life living in her own sister's shadow.
"Would…would you like us to give Eddie a shot, sweetheart?" Kathrin asked quietly, her green eyes glowing apologetically.
"Please," she begged. "That's all I ask."
"Okay, then," she nodded and patted her husband's shoulder. "Let's start with the basics, shall we? Eddie, what kind of family do you come from?"
Eddie smiled and leaned forward happily. "Well, my mother is an Oxford graduate…"
So that bad news...some of the prompts I received a long, long, long time ago, I just cannot write for the life of me. So, I'm gonna do the drabbles I can do. And soon, I'll start asking for some more.
