Yay! New drabble! I got this idea while reading a Breakfast Club fanfic...so yeah,
Enjoy! :)
Staying up all night to revise for a test was not Mara Jaffray's best move.
Mara sat quietly in the front row of the classroom, bowing her head as Mr. Sweet explained the rules of detention. There was only one other person in the room, but once Mr. Sweet had left the room, he snuck out one of the windows and shut it tightly, leaving as if nothing had happened. Choosing to use the situation to her advantage, Mara pulled several books out of her bag and began working on the French homework she had to turn in next week.
A few minutes after she had started, a knock on the window gained her attention. She was about to get up and open the window, thinking that the boy that had left might have forgotten something, but then she remembered one of the detention rules; do not move from your seats. But a second tap on the glass made her turn around and gaped in shock at Jerome standing on the other side, waving her over. She glanced at the door of the classroom nervously.
What was he doing?
Finally, she made herself get up, deciding that it was okay for her to rush to the window. She opened it and her boyfriend greeted her happily.
"Jerome, what are you doing?" she hissed, looking back at the door.
"Well, considering that you ditched our date for detention, I thought I'd bring the date to you." He smiled sweetly and lifted a picnic basket in through the window.
As he lifted himself into the room, Mara stepped back, suddenly even more nervous than before. "J, you're going to get in trouble!"
He turned to her after closing the window and furrowed his eyebrows. "So, Sweet's going to kick me out of detention for sneaking into detention."
In return, Mara planted her hands on her hips and gave him a scolding look.
"I'm just making up for all the detentions I've skipped." He suggested.
Mara sighed, letting her arms fall to her sides. "You're a horrible influence on me."
Jerome grinned and began setting up the picnic in the back of the class room, laying out a blanket and pulling out mugs and food.
"But what about Mr. Sweet; detention is a punishment. I don't think picnics are allowed."
"Don't worry; he's sucking face with Miss Andrews in the teacher's lounge. He won't be done any time soon."
"What?" she gasped.
"So how about some hot chocolate?" he asked.
Mara smiled and closed her eyes. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, opening her brown eyes to look at him. "I'd love some."
He smirked and poured her a mug and then some for himself. "Though, I have to admit, it's nowhere near as good as yours."
Mara smiled and took the cup from him, taking a sip and savoring the chocolaty flavor. "Delicious."
Jerome busied himself with setting out food but kept glancing back at her, studying her face, a smirk slipping onto his face.
"What," she spoke, eying him suspiciously.
"I know that look." He replied, laying on his side and leaning on one of his elbows to hold himself up.
"What look?"
"You want to kiss me," he stated smugly, "And in school; shame on you, Mara, dear."
She opened her mouth to retort when he chuckled.
"You're blushing, love."
"So what if I want to kiss you?" she demanded bravely.
"Why aren't you?" he replied, looking up at her curiously.
"I don't think I will," she said stubbornly and his eyes widened, staring up at her. He frowned and shrugged, sitting up so he could cross his arms childishly.
"Then, I won't kiss you."
"Fine."
"Good."
In silence, they began to eat. Seven minutes later, they finally decide they had enough with the awkward atmosphere. "You know—" they said simultaneously. "No, you go first—"
Jerome held up his hand. "You go first."
Mara looked down shyly. "Dates aren't really the same if you're not sneaking kisses or touching me."
"Yeah, there not the same if you're not telling me not to touch you here or kiss you there." He rolled his eyes quickly and she arched an eyebrow at him.
"That's because you enjoy being inappropriate."
"But you're just so irresistible! I can't control myself!"
"I'm irresistible?" she blushed.
"Delicious even," he grinned, leaning his forehead against hers and then he froze. "You even smell delicious; what is that?"
As he buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling, she giggled. "Jerome, stop it."
"Vanilla," he moaned. "Is that new? It's intoxicating."
"Jerome, if I kiss you will you stop pouncing on me?" she laughed, pushing on his shoulders gently, barely protesting.
"Yes," he answered immediately, pulling away.
She grinned and took his face in her gentle hands, pressing her lips to his. She pulled away and glanced at the clock on the wall. "Mr. Sweet will be back soon."
"Kiss or eat…" Jerome murmured to himself, seemingly at war with himself.
"Eat," she answered him. "We can kiss later."
"I'm gonna hold you to that." He warned her with a playful grin.
Review? Prompt?
"You and me found love, lost under the shade."
