Guest, I'm sorry this took so long! See, I had the idea, and then I just couldn't get myself to write it. So...when I saw your review, with no way of replying and explaining, I just sort of rushed through it and finished it up. It's not exactly as I had promised and it's not all Kabian, but it's here... :/
I'm sorry if you don't like it.
Enjoy?
Fabian Rutter was never the smartest when it came to women.
Okay, maybe he wasn't the only male that wasn't smart when it came to women. But even though he was the second smartest student in school, he wasn't smart at all when he tried to decipher the feelings of a woman.
That woman being KT Rush.
One day, the two of them had been studying in his room. And they had both been silent until she stood up, asking him for his help on a problem. He leaned over her paper and read over what she had written down so far. After pointing out that her decimal point wasn't in the right place, he pulled back, but his blue eyes landed on her face as she finished the problem. When she realized that her answer was correct, her face lit up and she moved onto the next problem.
It only took him a second to realize, and blush on his pale cheeks had confirmed it—he liked KT Rush.
"Hi, Fabian," Mara greeted him as he walked into Jerome and Alfie's bedroom, "What's up?"
"I just need to talk to Jerome for a moment?" he looked to her boyfriend sitting on the end of the bed.
Jerome's eyes flitted to Mara briefly before he shrugged indifferently. He stood up and walked to the door as Fabian led the way out. "I'll be right back," he said to Mara with a wink.
She smiled in understanding and went back to studying as Jerome and Fabian stopped in the hallway.
Jerome crossed his arms, patiently waiting for Fabian to speak as the timid brunette scratched the back of his neck. "Listen, Jerome," he began, "I know that you, um, know things about women."
Jerome's eyebrow arched and he smirked.
Fabian looked up at him and his cheeks flamed brightly. "I need dating advice, Jerome! Be serious for a moment in your life, please?"
"That's what I thought you were talking about. And I can be serious; women are a serious thing." Jerome shrugged. "So, who you gonna ask out? Joyless? You know she's been waiting for you to ask her out since like, grade eight, right?"
"She said she was over me," Fabian stated dumbly.
"Oh, well, I guess she's a better liar than I ever gave her credit for, maybe even better than me."
Fabian blinked.
"Or you're the most gullible person I've ever met in my life."
Fabian opened his mouth to reply.
"Or maybe she really is over you—"
"Jerome, would you stop babbling about Joy and give me advice on KT?" Fabian snapped suddenly, gripping the ends of his hair in frustration.
Jerome stared at him for a second, surprised by his outburst, and then he laughed. He covered his mouth with his hands and guffawed. "Are you serious? KT Rush? What's with you and American's, man?"
Despite his burning cheeks, Fabian scowled. "What does Mara see in you?"
"Hey, hey, come on, I'm sorry." he chuckled, gripping his shoulder and turning him back when he tried to walk away. "What kind of dating advice exactly?"
"Kind," he asked.
Jerome ran a hand through his hair. "How to ask her out, how to act on a date, what to say, what to do; what do you need to know?"
"Well, I don't really know if she likes me, so it'd be kind of embarrassing if I asked her out and she turned me down…"
"Wait, you were going to ask her out? Dude, it took you a year to ask Nina out, and then when you were dating, you still couldn't ask her out."
"She was my first girlfriend," he mumbled.
"So did you need me for advice or to find out if she likes you too?"
"Sort of both…"
Jerome raised an eyebrow. "What's in it for me?"
Fabian let out a groan. "I don't know... What do you want?"
"Forty,"
"F-forty," he stuttered. "What are you going to do with all that money?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out in your own time." Jerome replied and held out his hand. "I prefer to be paid half in advance."
Fabian sighed and reached into his pocket, pulling out his wallet. He slapped twenty into the blonde's waiting hand.
"I'll get back to you." He guaranteed. "It was a pleasure doing business with you, Rutter."
"Jerome," KT called, jogging up to him as he walked away from his locker. He looked back at her, looping his bag strap around his neck and over his shoulder. "I need your help."
"Step into my office," he smirked, motioning ahead of him.
"Look, this is a little embarrassing, but I know that you've known Fabian longer than some people and I also know that you're very good at getting information…" she drifted off, eyeing him.
He nodded for her to continue.
"Can you find out if Fabian likes me or not?" she whispered quickly.
"You like him, do you?" he wondered, arching an eyebrow.
Tilting her head, she shot him a deadpanned look.
"What's with girls and Fabian?" he muttered to himself and then, he straightened and scratched his eyebrow. "What's in it for me?"
Her shoulders slumped forward and she brushed some of her unruly brown hair away from her face. "Do you want money, or…?"
"Money would be nice," he nodded thoughtfully.
"Well," she sighed, pulling her wallet out of her bag. "I have thirty-five—"
"That'll do," he smiled, taking it from her.
"Fabian, I'd like the rest of my payment, if you please." Jerome grinned, stopping in front of his desk in the history classroom.
"What did KT say?" he asked, pulling out the money but holding it away from him.
"She likes you." He shrugged, reaching for the money.
Fabian hid it behind his back. "How did you find out? Did you just come out and ask her? Did you tell her I like her?"
"I have my methods, mate, don't worry. She doesn't know a thing." he promised, hand on his heart.
Fabian watched him warily, hesitantly handing over the money.
"Do you need anything else?" Jerome questioned, slipping the bills into the front pocket of his trousers.
"How do you suppose I should go about asking her out?" he folded his arms over the top of the desk, leaning forward.
Jerome breathed in deeply. "I think that just coming out and asking her would be the safest route."
"Do you really think so?"
"Well, she likes you, so why would she say no if you ask?" he shrugged a shoulder indifferently.
"Thanks, Jerome,"
"Anytime, Rutter," he nodded a silent goodbye and took his seat as the teacher walked into the room.
"Well, don't you two look cozy," Mara teased, looking down at Fabian and KT as they sat on a sofa in the Anubis House common room watching a movie. "Did you have fun on your date last night?"
"Yeah, we went to the science center," KT smiled, brown eyes flitting to Fabian when he spoke up.
"KT loves chemistry. I had no idea." He chuckled at himself.
"Good," Mara nodded, and then did a double-take. "Oh, I'm sorry, is this another date? I don't want to intrude—"
"No, we're just hanging out." Fabian assured her.
"Hey, is that a new necklace?" KT observed, eyeing the jewelry around Mara's neck.
"Yeah, you know Jerome and giving me presents," she laughed, but she smiled softly, fingering the small gold heart.
"It's beautiful," KT commented.
"Thank you, I do like to think I have taste." Jerome smirked, waltzing into the room. He placed a gentle hand on his girlfriend's shoulder. "Ready to go, love?"
"Yeah," she stood and took his outstretched hand. "See you guys later."
"Bye," Fabian mumbled absentmindedly.
"He used the money to buy that necklace," they said together.
They looked at each other and chuckled.
"Money," KT asked shyly.
"Can we just let this one slide?" Fabian wondered sheepishly.
"Of course,"
Review? Prompt?
Another one of those random really long "drabbles". :P
"I was cryin' when I met you. Now, I'm tryin' to forget you. Love is sweet misery. I was cryin' just to get you. Now, I'm dyin' cause I let you. Do what you do, down on me."
