Light in the Dark
(Acrostic and Sonnet at once)

Version 1:

Lonely was I throughout my sad childhood,
Invisible was I among the crowd,
Great was my island, abundant the food
Happy were the people of my hometown.
Though I had lived there my entire life,
I was never liked by the townsfolk there
No matter how hard and how much I tried
They would plunge me deeper into despair.
"He with two abnormal tails is a curse,
Eternally damned to exist alone…"
Dreamed I had of a life where I was loved,
A life in which I would never be scorned.
Really, all I'd wished for was, in the end,
Kindness, friendship and love of a dear friend.

Version 2:

Lonesome was I throughout my meek childhood,
Invisible was I amidst the crowd,
God-awful were the invaders and brutes
Harassing the people of my hometown.
Though I'd never been loved in my short life,
I would rise up to save the townsfolk there
No matter how hard and much the birds tried
They would never plunge me into despair.
He was the first to have treated me well,
Eliciting kindness I'd never seen,
Decency so great that made my heart swell.
A noble, steadfast soul he must have been
Ready to offer different little me
Kindness, friendship, affection – all for free.
