CHAPTER 13
The sisters didn't sleep that well after the confrontation. Anna reminisced that one night when they held each other all night after confessing their feelings. It was just like yesterday and now all was crashing down to pieces. She put her hand on her chest, trying to ease the pain she was feeling. God, she really loved Elsa even though it hurt.
'I wish you'll choose me again Elsa. I wish next time you'll be sure of your feelings. I hope when you finally make your decision, you'll choose me,' Anna thought to herself.
While Anna was still brooding about what happened, Elsa was already on her way to school. She needed to clear her mind. She needed to be certain of what she was feeling first.
"Hey, babe. "Hans was walking towards Elsa. She didn't realize she was already in front her school.
"Hans, you're early," was the only thing Elsa managed to say before glancing away from him.
"Look, I'm sorry about what happened yesterday." Hans moved forward and hugged her. "I was very upset. You know how much I love you."
Elsa couldn't help but shudder at the contact. "Look Hans, I need to talk to you but can we do that at lunch?"
"Sure, babe. I hope you'll change your mind. I'm really sorry for yelling at you like that." Hans then left Elsa.
It's lunchtime already but Elsa still haven't seen her sister. She was worried, but at the same time she felt relieved at not seeing Anna. Now she was on her way to the cafeteria to talk with Hans and this time she was making her final decision. Hurting Hans made her feel guilty, but hurting Anna pained Elsa more than anything. She realized that she really did love Anna and she couldn't fathom how she even doubted that fact.
Hans waved at her once their eyes met.
"Okay, Hans, I—I loved you," Elsa started as soon as she sat down. Her voice was shaking but she looked at Hans with full resolve. Hans on the other hand hoped that maybe Elsa had changed her mind.
"I thought I loved you, but I believe what I felt was infatuation. It's not as intense as yours, it's not as serious as yours—"
"What do you mean you thought? I—I don't get it, babe. Is it really that hard for you to love me?" Hans eyes were starting to be a little watery. "We've been together for half a year. Maybe you're not ready or you know, maybe this is just some mood swing or something. Can't you give me a chance to prove myself to you?
Elsa felt so guilty, but she needed to finish this. She needed to be honest with him and especially with herself.
"I told you already. It's me, not you. Th—there's someone I love Hans. I'm sorry, but my heart doesn't shout your name," Elsa said wearily. This break up was really hard to deal with.
Hans widened his eyes at Elsa's revelation. "I see, so that's why…that's why I was never enough." His expression was full of pain. "May I know who's this goddamn guy that made you break up with me?" He was angry, not at Elsa, but at the guy who took away the love of his life.
"You don't have to know that. Hans." He didn't have to know it was Elsa's own sister. "It will make you suffer more. I'm really sorry. I know my apology won't be enough, you don't deserve this but I can't lie to you and to myself anymore. Please, let me go." Elsa seized his hands and squeezed them, as if asking for permission.
She felt so guilty, but this was for the best. She couldn't have their relationship prolonged when she was in love with someone else. Not only would she hurt herself and Hans, she would also hurt Anna.
"I—I don't know Elsa. I don't know what to do" Hans was shaking, but when he stared at Elsa's eyes, he knew. There was no love for him anymore in those dreamy eyes. It was all for someone else. The pain grew even more by this realization.
So with a heavy heart, he said, "Okay, Elsa, I'm letting you go."
"Tha—thank you—"Elsa felt something soft on her lips. Hans was kissing her for the last time. They both knew it was goodbye.
As Hans left, Elsa felt so relieved. That was until her eyes met Anna's eyes. She caught the flash of hurt in Anna's eyes before her sister ran away.
'Oh, god. Please don't tell me she saw that!' Elsa ran as fast as she can to catch up with her sister. "Anna! Let me explain!"
Anna only stopped when they reached the front gate of their school. "What, Elsa? I saw it, okay? You don't have to say anything!"
"Anna, I broke up with him! And that kiss was his way of saying goodbye! Please believe me, Anna." Elsa stepped forward and hugged Anna tightly.
"Are you telling the truth? You're not lying?" Anna's tears began to fell. She was so, so relieved and happy she didn't dare believe it.
"Of course. I love you, Anna." Elsa tightened her embrace on her sister even more, hoping that her feelings will get through.
"Okay, but, Els—let me go," Anna said, suddenly shy.
Elsa blushed when she remembered they were still in school. They couldn't be this intimate in public. "Let's go home then."
"Honey, I'm glad you're okay!" Idunn said to Elsa and Anna once they arrived home. "I thought the two of you had another big fight, but I'm glad you're not."
Elsa just smiled at her mom. She didn't have to know what happened yet.
"Uh, Els—can you go to my room? Let's have a movie marathon!" Anna said.
"Yeah. Sure," Elsa agreed, looking down to hide her blush.
Anna locked the door once they were inside. "Hey why do you have to lock the door?" Elsa asked.
"Just a habit." Anna hopped on her bed beside Elsa. "So, let's talk. First, I'm really happy that you chose me. I'm so sorry for all the selfish things I said last night. I didn't mean it. I'm sorry for running away earlier and jumping to conclusions—"
Elsa shushed her sister with a kiss. "I love you Anna, that's all that matters."
"O—okay, so, uh, are you—are we?" Anna mumbled, still flustered from the kiss and the close proximity of her sister.
"What, Anna? Are we what?" Elsa knew what Anna was talking about, but she decided to tease her sister.
"I hate you, I know you know what I mean!"
"Not at all. I have no idea."
"Hmph. Okay. Els, are we— I mean, would you be my girlfriend? To be mine alone?" Anna's face was so red that Elsa wondered if steam would start coming out of her ears.
She smiled and leaned on Anna's ear, whispering with an almost seductive tone. "Yes, Anna, I'll be yours from now on."
Anna hugged her sister. She couldn't be any happier. God, she could probably die right now.
"I love you so much, Els!"
" I love you too, snowflake. Now, let's watch some movies, yeah?"
Then the two spent their night watching movies, leaning side by side with their hands intertwined. Now it was official: Anna was Elsa's and Elsa was Anna's.
