Chapter 17
A Little Light
Yugi sighed as he walked down the hallway. He was tired now, he couldn't believe that it took that much energy to over power his Yamino's power.
Flashback
"Yugi, come here" Solomon called from the storage room.
"Coming, Jii-chan" Yugi called back, walking to the room that his grandfather was in.
"You seem upset" his grandfather observed once they'd sat down.
"It's just.. Yami keeps threatening people. He keeps resorting to violence over everything.. I keep trying to tell him to stop, but it's like he has a yerning for violence."
"That's because he does" Solomon said simply.
"Huh?" The boy gasped, raising his head with wide eyes.
"Yami cannot control himself because the shadows are overcoming him. He needs your help."
"My help? But what can I do?"
"Yugi, let me tell you something..."
End Flashback
'Jii-chan said that Yami needs my help to control his shadows. Only the strongest Hikari can handle the strongest Yamino. Since we're both princes, I guess this is what he meant. I think I have everything handled for now.. I just hope he doesn't get any stronger.. I dunno what else I can do for him..'
"Yugi!"
Yugi jumped a little, turning towards his brother who was now running down the hallway with Bakura in tow. "Hey Ryou. Hey 'Kura."
"Wasn't that power outage crazy? Everyone's trying to figure out what happened. Teachers are saying we're being sent home early just in case it's a faulty wire. They don't want us here in case the school goes up in flames."
"I don't think the school is going up in flames" Yugi mumbled to himself. The other two stared at him with slightly widened eyes, heads tilted in curiosity. "I-I mean, it would've already gone up in flames, right?"
"Not necessarily" a voice spoke up behind them, causing them all to turn with a yelp.
"Seto!?" The three of them yelled.
"The wires could just now be acting up, meaning that it could cause a fire at any moment" Seto went on, ignoring the three stunned ones in front of him.
"Yeah, yeah, act like ya cool richboy" Joey blabbered on beside him.
"Hey, aren't we missing a knucklehead?" Marik asked as he appeared out of nowhere with Malik.
"He got sent to the office" Yugi grumbled, his eyes half-lidded in annoyance.
"How'd you know that?" Bakura gasped.
"I ran into him in the hallway. He's an idiot."
"Told you what he did?"
"Didn't have to. By the sheepish grin on his face I already guessed that he'd mouthed off to a teacher."
Well, it was mostly the truth..
Flashback
"Ugh... Yugi.. I'm really sorry.."
Yugi gasped, turning his head towards Yami as the flashbacks began. The memories weren't his though.. They were Yami's!
"I know fighting isn't always the answer.."
Yami ducked as a sword was swung at him, narrowly missing taking his head off his shoulders. The boy continued, swinging around and summoning the shadows to himself. The older teen continued, taking out the opposing robot under Seto's training.
"But I wanna get stronger.."
Another robot knocked Yami to the ground, the boy skidding across the gravel and skinning up his knees. He saw how many times Yami was knocked down, how many times he hit his head, and how many times he'd continued to get up.
"I-I... I wanna protect you..."
Yami was getting stronger. He was better able to handle the shadows that were at his control. He was able to summon up the power with ease now, but there was still a lot of work to be done.
"... And our friends..."
He saw the argument in the classroom, between student and teacher before the flashbacks faded away. He blinked away the blurs as his vision came back, revealing a blushing Yami once again. He couldn't help but smile...
End Flashback
Yugi sighed "Anyway, I'm outta here, I've gotta get home. Come on Ryou!"
"C-Coming" Ryou called, giving chase after the smaller teen.
"That seem kinda weird to you guys?" Marik asked.
"Maybe just a little. It's like he knows something that he's not sharing" Malik observed.
"Y-Yugi!"
Yugi turned at the bottom of the stairs, catching sight of Yami coming towards him. "You go on ahead, I'll catch up" he told Ryou.
"A-Alright" Ryou nodded, turning and walking away.
"I'm so glad I caught you" Yami gasped, attempting to catch his breath. "Listen, can we talk?"
The younger teen sighed "Alright. You have ten minutes."
"Okay."
"Why are we at the park?"
"Because this is where I wanted to talk to you at" Yami said simply.
"You're wasting your ten minutes..."
"Yugi, I know I made you mad.. I'm really sorry though.. I don't understand anything and I feel like everyone is keeping secrets from me..."
Yugi gasped quietly at the defeated look in Yami's eyes. 'His parents still haven't told him..'
"Everyone keeps telling my dad that 'it's time' I have no idea what anyone is talking about... I've been working really hard to understand myself, but I just.. Nothing makes sense to me.. I feel like everyone knows what's wrong with me.. except.. me.. I feel like such a freak.. But.. No one seems to care..
"My parents won't tell me anything. People are trying to attack me. I have these weird abilities that no other human possess.. I just don't understand" Yami whispered, his voice turning into more of a whimper as he sat on the park bench, leaving Yugi to stand in front of him. "I'm not trying to hurt anyone.. I'm not the type of person to go around fighting everyone.. But I just can't help it.. I feel like such a monster."
Yugi lowered himself down enough to wrap his arms around the older boy. Yami was trembling, shaking from the silent sobs that swept through him. "I'm so pathetic" he hiccupped.
"No.. You're not" Yugi whispered in his ear. "You're just doing what comes naturally.. Don't be afraid of yourself. Embrace it. Just know, if anything goes wrong, I'll be right here" he continued, pulling back enough to place a kiss on Yami's forehead.
Yami gasped quietly, lifting his head to look Yugi in the eyes. "Yugi.."
Amethyst eyes sparkled with understanding as the boy stood back up. "C'mon, no more moping."
The older teen's frown turned to a smile as he wiped his eyes. "How about some disc golf?" Yami asked, pulling two discs from his backpack.
"You carry those to school with you?"
"Of course. I come here a lot."
"Aren't you on house arrest?"
"Yeah. Doesn't mean I can't have fun."
Yugi's eyelids lowered in annoyance his lips pushing out into a sort of pout. "Pretty sure that's exactly what house arrest means..."
"You look adorable like that, now let's go."
Pale cheeks turned scarlet at the compliment, and also from embarrassment. "Um.. Yami.."
"Hm?" Yami hummed, looking over his shoulder at the boy.
"I-I.. Can't.."
"Huh? Why not?" The taller teen yelped, turning to face the younger one.
"I-I dunno how" he said quietly, looking at the ground and away from Yami.
"I'll teach you" the older boy said softly, grabbing Yugi's left hand in his right and pulling him towards the first starting pole.
"Okay, right or left handed?" Yami asked with a smile, handing Yugi a disc.
"Right."
"Okay, good" Yami said, dropping his bag to the ground. His tan hand ran down Yugi's pale, right arm until their arms lined up, his hand gripping the sweatband on Yugi's right wrist. Yami's arm bent up at the elbow, pulling both their arms against Yugi's chest.
The smaller's face began to heat up as he was wrapped up in what was basically a one armed hug. Yami's breath was ghosting over his ear, their bodies firmly against one another as Yami showed him how to line up the shot. "Yami" he whispered, turning his head to look at the older teen.
Yugi's head ended up on Yami's chest as he turned, so he was able to hear how fast the taller boy's heart was beating. He was glad to know his heart rate wasn't the only one quickening it's pace. He watched Yami's eyes soften, his eyelids lowering as he stared at the younger one.
The shorter of the two turned in Yami's arms, the disc being forgotten about as they stared at each other. Yami bent his back slightly, his head lowering down towards Yugi's. Yugi stretched up towards him, standing on his tiptoes as they closed the distance between them.
BUZZ
The two stopped, centimeters apart, at the sound of a phone vibrating. Yugi looked down, pulling out his phone to retrieve the message. "Sorry, I have to go.. Ryou is getting worried.."
"Yeah.. I should get home too" Yami said softly, picking his bag back up off the ground. He put the disc away before turning and beginning his walk. "See ya tomorrow" he said with a wave.
Yugi's arms hung at his side, sighing a defeated sigh as he turned the opposite direction. He was just going to walk home, going to walk away without a second thought. He hadn't expected them to get that close and then be interrupted. But they did..
He also hadn't expected those muscular arms to wrap around him again. But they did.. "Yugi" Yami whispered, his lips moving against his ear.
"Yeah?" Yugi whispered back, feeling like his normal voice would break the moment into pieces like glass.
"I'll always protect you.. You know that.. Right?"
"Of course I do."
"Never forget."
Yami turned his head, pressing his lips against Yugi's temple. He whispered a few words in Yugi's ear before walking away once again. Yugi stood there with wide eyes, he couldn't believe the words he'd just heard.. And yet, there they were.. Right from his Yamino's own lips.. 'That's right.. His Yamino. The shadow to his light' he thought with a smile.
Me: Sorry! That's where I'm ending this chapter! ^w^ Wanna know what Yami said to him? Stick around! It'll come up again! Eventually! Until next time boys and girls! I'll try not to take so long the next time! *waves* Goodbye!
