Chapter 22
Promise
The sun sat behind the small group, casting their shadows out in front of them. They all stood, shocked into silence except the occasional whimpers and sniffles. No one could say anything to ease the pain that was slowly eating away at the Hikari Prince. He still hadn't looked at his wrist, which was hidden beneath a sweat band. None of the others had asked him to look either, they knew how much pain he was in.
But the bad luck didn't stop there. Approaching them from across the way was Aknadin. "Aww, looks like your precious Yamino didn't get out in time.. If only he'd had more of a warning" he taunted, chuckling as he made his way over towards the group.
Marik and Seto were quick to jump in front of the Hikari Prince as the menace approached. "We won't let you near the Hikari Prince" Marik growled.
"You promised..." Yugi whispered, looking down at the ground as more tears fell to the ground.
"You couldn't protect the Yamino Prince, what makes you think you can protect him!?" Aknadin sneered.
"Who the fuck said I needed protection?!" A voice roared.
The shadows darkened to pure black, crackling with power as the Yamino Prince began to rise from their depths. "I warned you, Aknadin. You were the one who didn't heed my warning."
Yami heard Yugi sniffle behind him and turned, wrapping his arms around him. Yugi wrapped his arms around Yami's torso, sobbing into his chest. "I'm sorry for scaring you" Yami apologized softly.
"I was so scared that you broke your promise."
"I would never break my promise to you. 'You are my light, and I will cherish and protect you, always. No matter where you go, I will always be your shadow'. That wasn't a promise to be taken lightly."
Yugi looked up as Yami moved his hands to the smaller's face, cupping his cheeks and wiping away the tears. "I'll never let anything happen to you."
Yami leaned down, closing his eyes as they closed the gap between them. The minute their lips connected the ground beneath them lit up. Black and white circled around them to form a completed Yin/Yang symbol, breaking away into small light particles as they broke apart. Yugi's cheeks were dusted with a light pink color once they separated, causing Yami to smile. "I will love and cherish you with everything that is me, my Hikari Prince" Yami said quietly, kneeling before Yugi and bowing his head.
Yugi lowered his hands, cupping Yami's face and bringing him back to his feet. "If you ever scare me like that again, I will show you no mercy as I beat the ever living crap out of you."
"Ah, but all was necessary to be able to hold you like this" Yami whispered huskily, wrapping his arms around the smaller one. The two embraced, holding one another for a few seconds before Yami backed away, bowing at the waist. "Now, if you'll excuse me. I must handle a threat."
Something within the two of them awakened, proven only when the Yamino prince lifted his head, the shadows doing things without him even having to ask. A blade came from Seto's shadow at his right, while another shadow went to his hand, twisting and turning, crackling as it settled into a shadow ball in his left hand.
Yugi walked over to Yami, touching the blade in his right hand, causing it to join with the light. The handle swirled with white, and the blade started silver but changed black from the middle down.
Yami smirked as he turned towards Aknadin "I hope you're ready you son of a bitch. 'Cuz this is where it all ends."
Yami growled as he launched forward, Aknadin barely able to lift his blade in time to block the Yamino Prince. Yami swung his other arm towards him as their blades clashed, causing him to jump back, which allowed Yami to spin in a circle and lash out at him with his shadows while simultaneously swinging his sword.
Aknadin swung his sword, pushing a burst of energy from his left hand that caught Yami off-guard. Yami stumbled back, barely able to roll out of the way as the Shudagami knight jumped for him, his sword stabbing into the ground as the Prince rolled to the side.
The two ended up in a scuffle, their swords on the ground and forgotten about as they rolled across the dirt. Aknadin was older, therefore more experienced, however, Yami was younger, had been training, and was full of youthful energy. And if that wasn't enough of an advantage, the shadows were also on Yami's side, as Aknadin learned when the Yamino Prince was swallowed by the darkness.
"You may be able to keep up with my physical body. But nothing consumes the darkness. Where there is light, there must be shadow" Yami's voice echoed all around. "And as long as there is light" he continued, coming up from a shadow behind the Hikari Prince. "The shadows will only continue to grow stronger."
Yami ran his right hand down Yugi's right arm, until their fingers laced together, his chest pressed firmly against his Hikari's back. "You see Aknadin, Yaminos and Hikaris will forever be stronger than the Shudagami. Because while the Shudagami focus on things like revenge, we focus on things, such as unity. We will stand together" as Yami spoke, a ball of black and white energy came together within their hands, a small ball of black within the white half, and a small ball of white within the black half. "We will defeat any and everyone that rises against us."
"Royal Magic!" The two shouted together, curling their arms together as the ball grew bigger. "Unity!"
The Princes' arms shot out, shooting the magic ball towards Aknadin, catching the knight and throwing him across the ground. The other's gaped in surprise as Aknadin vanished, disappearing into thin air from the blast.
Both of the princes fell over, exhausted from the energy that had been exerted into the blast. Their respective 'brothers' were there at their sides immediately, as were their Guardians. They were all quickly relieved though, when the Yamino Prince's arms wrapped protectively around his Hikari, holding him tightly as the two rested their weary bodies.
Me: Okay guys and gals, the next chapter will be an Epilogue of sorts... Then this story is done! But, that just means it makes room for my new story X3 So! I hope you all enjoyed! Until next chapter ladies and gents! *waves* Goodbye!
