Chapter 9 part 1

I felt like a blood hound, no pun intended. I scooped out nearly every nook and cranny of Kitsap. Every inch of town and woods we had. I had gone a full circle. I smelt a lot of potential victims, but Ada's scent was far gone. Where could she be? I dare not say picking off another child.

I thought about how scared I was to know that Nessie would be home today. The sky was dull grey, but the sun was about to set. Yet another chilly winter twilight in Washington. Then it hit me. The one place I wouldn't look! The Cullen house!
I sprang up and rushed through the thick brush to their large home. I ran as fast as I could and When I reached their drive way I was not exactly disappointed.

Jasper and Rosalie were standing over Ada who was pushed down to her knees. In Rosalie's hand was a thick lock of Ada's raven hair. Jasper's steady scared hands were firmly gripped around Ada's neck.

They looked calm. Must have been Jasper's work.

I looked up to see Bella frowning on the porch, Next to her Alice was making the same face. She had her arms crossed. I didn't see Edward or Nessie though.

"Lulu. Oh boy. Am I glad you see you. These idiots messed up my meal. Here I was minding my own business when these pair of arms grabbed me up. I would have struggled more, but the southern one is kinda cute."

Ada looks up and winks at Jasper who hisses and buries his nails into her neck making her gasp.

"Ohhh kinky eh?" She chuckles.

"You crossed lines. You were covered in bodies."

Ada shrugs "So I am a binge eater. So I attacked a mother child and father. Big deal, they were dying anyways. All humans are. Should not I spare them of their ugly and boring short lives. They should be honored to be taken by an Apex predator like myself."

I am shocked, but I start to say something, but Rose speaks up first.

"Does this trash belong to you?"

"You are one to talk! Trash! Blondie think she is so pretty. More like pretty pathetic. " Ada says proudly. Ada and Rose were heartbreakingly beautiful. I could not decide who was most glorious.

"Ada…" I say and she stops me.

"Look I don't know who you are, or how you knew Lucy here will find me. But since I am an honorable person I will give you the count of three. I want you to release me and you shall be spared of the voltouri's might."

Everyone was stiff before Rose laughed. "Sad delusion little princess." She mutters then she gives me a pointed look. I don't say anything and Ada starts counting. When she makes it three she orders me to kill the Cullens.

My jaw falls, but I gulp instead. "Excuse me?"

"I said kill them Lulu. Use your power and kill them." Her voice is commanding.

I look up at each of their faces. All I see are warm golden eyes who collectively look a little amused.

I look at Ada and shrug. "I'm not going to hurt them for you."

Ada's stone face twisted up for a long time before speaking.

"Oh. Oh I see. You must be those pesky Cullens. Ada do not forget our agreement. You need me. Without me you don't have Yohan."

I never had him in the first place. I give me a sad look and she spits at me.

"Traitor. You'd let them kill your princess?"

"The volutori never wanted you. They were using you to get to Lucy. They would have killed you after you brought her to them. You were never going to be a princess. Lucy on the other hand…" Alice grins at me, but I shake at the thought.

"Liars. More pity jealousy I see."

"Oh honey…" Rose chuckles. "Hey, Lucy. You waited a long time for this right. That man treated you like a toy to get what he wants. And this one-she used you a tissue from the start"

I suddenly see the monster in Rose. Her eyes are like torches. "Me and abuser don't get along." She says and her breath is shallow and deep. My body relaxes and I know that tone. The tone of a hunter. The tone of a murder.

The sweet sound of vengeance danced around on Rose's tongue. I smiled slightly and a hundred years of learning to be human fades away. Slowly and gracefully I walk to Lucy extending my chains around her body tightly. Draining her. Crushing her.

"You know you could have phased and ran off hours ago." I tell her. "You could have been spared of this, but you wanted to wait till I found you so I can kill them. Why?"

I can see my reflection in her ruby eyes. It had been like looking an old friend.

"Because you needed me. You needed me, but you cannot stop feeling like the world owes you something. You had everything I ever wanted, but you need more. You broke the heart of the man who broke my heart."

I put my hand on her chin and grin. Jasper pulls a little harder.

"I cannot allow you to hurt these people, Ada. This coven means more to me than anything. Even the love of a man I could not ever truly be happy without. They are more family to me than I have known in the past 100 years" I am smiling, but I see Ada wriggling with fear. I see Jasper start to really hurt Ada with the pulling. I can hear tears.

I can breathe a little easier, but my heart will break with her neck. Yohan's face is my mind. And is starting to fade. Fade away.

I guess I was interested in the execution I didn't have time to react. I see Jasper and Rose look up and scream with either fear or anger.

Ada slips out of their hands and vanishes. I want to ask what is going on, but the smell is over whelming. Suddenly I am the prey. I do not turn around fast enough. And a large paw brushes across my back. I hear the clothes rip and my hair starts to fall out in curly chucks. The sound of hundreds of pearls drop on the ground and scatter around in the dirt. The wound is not deep but it was painful.

The pain is stinging, but I am frozen with fear. I cover my ears and accept my fate. Perhaps I was not supposed to live in a world without Yohan. I have my eyes closed, but I can hear everything. I smell Bella over me suddenly. She is pulling me. Is she carrying me? I am flying and I am aware that Bella is still a Newborn. Where had we gone? We are in the trees and she is yelling to Seth to get Brady back. I notice I am still covering my ears.

Bella smiles at me and pulls down my hands.

"Did I something wrong, why are they attacking me?"

"I am not sure why, but we are going to fix it. I wish Edward was here, but when Alice saw Ada coming he and Emmett stayed behind with Nessie...he could read their minds…Lucy. Can you use your powers on me? I am going to put them in a force field while Jasper calms them down." Her voice is so sturdy that I nod and follows what she says.

The pain is not bearable, but I try. I am growing weak, but I am strong enough to follow close behind in Bella's swirling force field.

I can only count 4 wolves, but they are all massive in size. I pick out Jacob and Seth, but a black one and a sandy one I did not know. The sandy coat had attacked me. In Jacob's mouth I can see Ada's body. She is screaming. I can hardly believe he has the gumption to keep her alive. They look calm, but I am still so scared.

Bella holds onto the shield none the less. The wolves cannot talk, but they all seem nervous. I see another boy dressed in just shorts in winter get up from the porch. He was talking to Alice. I had never meet this boy, but she shoots Bella a sweet smile.

"Sorry Bella, But we need to blood sucker behind your mystical veil there. Wolf culture trial and such." He says pointing at me. I started to panic, but Bella sighed.

"Why Embry? Brady nearly tried to kill her you know. She is freaked out."

"Well it was either this bloodsucker or the one in Jake's mouth that murdered on our land. One is accused of killing the family of one of our brethren…Poor Brady…Anyway someone is going to pay. And pay hard."

"I did not such thing!" I say out loud and I hear a growing chorus of dog growls.

"We have your scent on the bodies, but we didn't see you. We trust the Cullen's but not an outsider." Embry was calm, but very livid. I can see him shaking; his foot tapping rapidly in the dirt.

"She wears my clothing!" I shout.

Bella shushes me. She looks at Jacob and at Sam. "This is Nessie's teacher. She has Carlisle's restraint as she teaches humans all the time. Look at her eyes. If she is a monster so am I." She speaks like Embry is a long time friend. Bella is so calm, but it is not Jasper.

Embry whistles at Sam, who grunts in response.

"Good enough for me. Do you like this bloodsucker?"

I hiss in response and Embry nods. "We will make sure her death is painful." Jacob adjusts his giant jaws making Ada scream in response.

"Let me down. Don't you know who I am! I am royalty. I am perfect." She whines.

I hear Alice and Rosalie talk about who should escort me. They felt it right for me to watch Ada's death. Rose, agrees to take me. Bella should be expecting the return of her daughter and husband and I could tell she was unnerved by leaving them. I am shaky, but I think Rose is someone not even the wolves really wanted to cross paths. She was deadly as she was beautiful.

"Bella. Thank you." I say.

"Carlisle will be here to patch you up." She promises before she lowers her shield. I untangle my powers and Rose is by my side in flash. She grins at me and tell Jacob to hurry up.

Not liking to take orders, Jacob snorts, letting loose a sprout of chilled air around him, before running. Everyone follows suite so swiftly it was like a ballet. Even Embry was changed quickly and running with the group. I kept my eyes on Ada. She keeps trying to phrase and if I didn't see the curve of Jacob's mouth I'd think he dropped her.

The moon is out now. And for the first time in a long time it did not snow.

Part 2

We ended up on a beach. I had never been on wolf land, but it was pretty. Pretty much the entire place smelled horrible though. There was a bonfire lite along with what I assumed was the entire pack of wolves. There had to be at least 60 sun kissed hides of all ages. I see Jacob's father next to Charlie's mate Sue. She is sobbing heavily and I feel my stomach drop. I want to enter the inner circle, but Rose tells me to stand far behind everyone. I can see and hear fine never the less.

The ceremony starts and Jacob very comically spits out Ada. She over covered in spit and Jacob starts eating big globs of sand in an over the top display of how bad she must have tasted. She vanished suddenly, but Embry's giant paw swats at the air. Suddenly Ada is on her ass and looking bewildered. I hate her, but I am afraid for her. Looking into those teeth is like hell.

"Those blood sucker tricks don't work here."One kid shouts and a collect amount of slurs and booing start from the crowd. Rose snickers."Oh boy. Here we go, Jewels."

The biggest and eldest of the boys besides Jacob parts the pack and he is livid. Amazing how someone look so human look like such a monster.

"You vampire scum are charged to murdering a family of my brother. As such that pain is punishable by death. Can you defend yourself?"

"I did not murder anyone…It was..It was… Lucy. She did it. I can smell her over there. And you can too! Those scents on those bodies matches hers."

"Yet I can also smell you." Sam says. "I have seen that one named Lucy. Her eyes aren't your color. I have heard stories from one of our own about her kindness. She is the teacher of our child Renesme Cullen. We know her. We don't know you. And you look really guilty…Brady. Do you smell the blood of your parent's on this scum?"

Brady howls loudly and a chorus of howls lit up the sky. I thought the moon would explode. It was quick, but Ada was then attacked. Her fingers were bit off and her feet. And her screams could be heard over the ripping. I watch them toss her limbs into the fire and I was concerned about the small number of the children under ten there. Finally her head was ripped off and mounted on a wooden stake in the fire. In time in would burn.

"Does she feel that still?" I ask Rose.

She sighs. And then shrugs. She looks off into the distance. "My husband is back." She announces perhaps too happily. I ask how she knows that, but not the other thing and she rolls her eyes.

She says. The pack hurries to move to the next stage of the ceremony. The mourning. There was a funeral to plan after all. I bet Brady was no older than 17 when he lost his family. Where would he go now? I feel really bad about it, but I decide to save my words. He had enough of my kind for the night. I watch as the crowd leaves and Rose tells me to come back to their place when I am ready. She leaves, and I am alone on the beach

I watch the flames lick at Ada's head. Burning the hair that she often bragged about. I cannot help that I am being watched and I am not surprised to see a silhouette far into the distance. Raising out of the ocean like some sort of sea monster. He was here early. At perhaps the most perfect place to be.

I figured it would happen one way or another as Yohan's eyes watched the flames engulf his lover.

I look at him. His face a little too dark to make out the expression for a human. He is hurt. He is twisted and misshapen and suddenly he is mad.

I looked horrible, but I sigh and turn back to the fire. I smell Jacob's heavy body approach me and he stands beside me.

Yohan looks confused and I knew he'd think twice about attacking me now.

"You will not get away with this." His voice mixes with the oceans tides and just like he came he left. It was a little surreal the way it happened. I would not have believed it. Just like that I was prey again. Maybe not tonight, but soon.

I look at Jacob whose big eye was looking down at me. I shuddered.

"The man I love just told me he wanted me dead." I tell him and he for once is quiet as I think out my next move. My heart is broken, but resolve is not. I feel free for once and at least now I can move on. Yohan never loved me, but at least now I did not have to go through the motions of him liking me.

"I'm so sorry about your friend. Please tell him…I had nothing to do about it. I know it is not much but if he needs money…"

Jacob grunts and I stop. Yeah. Stupid idea.

I am quiet again and I smile at the stars.

"I'm leaving Washington. The last I want is for Yohan to see me with Nessie. I am not bringing down this family…I already hurt yours."

For a second he looks concerned, but his head nods.

"I don't where I'll go, but it sure as hell won't have vampire kids in my classroom." I laugh and he rolls his eyes. I think he understands I do not wish to leave, but it is for the best. I don't think I can live so close to wolves anymore either. The burning in my back was near crippling. If I turned any slower I'd be in that fire as well.

"If this is the last time we get to talk like this, I want you to do two things. Watch over my family." I say sternly. "And pick a girl to date who doesn't have bad breath. I know a dog has low standards, but really Jake." I say and he grunts. His tongue is hanging out his mouth and he smiling. I tell him good night and I limp back to the Cullen home.

Hopeful that Carlisle can fix my back.

True enough all the Cullens were home and as soon as I reached the driveway I found myself in arms of Dr. Cullen himself.

"We have stop meeting like this doc." I muse lightly and he carefully escorts me to his office. On the way I see Nessie face covered in dried tears. She was nuzzled in her mother's chest, but even now as weak as she looked she managed a small smile. We all knew Carlisle could fix me, but no doctor could bring back the dead like Embry's family. I am willing to bet Nessie knew them very well. We quietly entered Carlisle' study.

I removed my shirt and Carlisle handed me a mason jar. I was to bite into the top and drip venom into the jar. I did what I was told.

"My daughters told me what you did to protect my family." He says. My eyes dart to the mirror so I can see this expression.

"I sincerely thank you." He said so humble he sounded like he could cry. I couldn't talk since my top rows of teeth were embedded in a jar so I just nodded.

I'd do it many times. I think in my head. I pictured each of their faces and hold back a cringe. I'd miss them so much. I regret not being able to finish the school year too. I think about the fact that the day after tomorrow school would start up again. I'd make up a lie and I'll leave soon as I can. I'll put my stuff in storage and start making a trail of scent in confusing ways so Yohan would not follow me back here. Who knows how far I'd walk…

I take my teeth out and clear my throat. "So how is the little wolf boy?"

Carlisle frowns. "Ada had attacked Brady's family as they were out for a fishing trip. That particular lake is often grey area for our families, but we had peace for so long, especially since Bella and Nessie that we were accustomed to seeing each other in the woods. Jasper and Rose were hunting when they found Ada drinking the blood of a child. I had not known Jasper to ignore the smell of human blood, but he was so particularly repulsed by the sight. Brady little brother was no more than five years old…Even vampires have some since of morality."

"Ada's morality had been long traded in for vanity." I say with a heavy sigh. "I'm so sorry."

"These kinds of things happen."

I suddenly think about how I was going to break the news to Nessie. Right now the only people in the world who knew I was leaving were Jacob…and by default Edward. As I pondered this Carlisle had soaked my wounds in my venom. They healed fairly quickly and the pain receded.

I turned around the mirror looking at the scars. Three lines from my shoulder blade to the middle of my back danced on the honey colored skin on my back. It matched the scars on my shoulder and wrist. I frowned heavily.

"It is not as bad as I have seen before."

I shake my head. "It's not the scars." My hair was completely sliced off to the nap of my neck in a jagged line. It looked horrible. I touched my hair, then my neck.

I lost my love, home, pearls, and hair all in the same night.

I hear a knock at the door and before Carlisle says anything Nessie and Alice are at the door. Nessie is holding something behind her hands and Alice is smiling.

I raise an eyebrow.

"I had a series of visions." She announces rather happily. She grabs my shoulders and tells me to follow her. I do what she says. I end up in a bathroom and I seen a bunch of hair care products. I nod and sit on the toilet.

"Better sport than Bella." She mutters as she starts combing out my tangled hair. Nessie stands in front of me and I smile at her. She mimics me and her hand extends her. In it was a black velvet box. I take it, but never expected to see what was inside.

"We found every single one." She says proudly.

I run my fingers over my father's pearls. My most important artifact. Truly as old as I was. I had them restore every five years since I became immortal. Here they were. The chain was a thin golden braid and it felt like my families had merged into one.

"Thank you…everyone." I say really confused on how I could meet such great people. Nessie grins and taps my shoulder. "It's no problem really."

I hear Alice's strong careful hands clip very quickly. Nessie sticks around to watch the entire process, which apparently included 'Noir midnight' hair dye. As the dye set I took the time to try to tell Nessie about me moving.

She looks sad, but she nods. "I understand. Can you at least finish out the year."

That did not seem like the best answer to the situation so I shook my head. The sooner the better really. Of Yohan was not much of threat, I could never be too careful. Next time it could be another Quileute, or even a human family. The population was too heavy here.

I hear Alice chuckle. I look up at her and she tells me to be still. I wonder what she knew. At the end of the ordeal I was allowed to look.

I was now wearing a long sleeve white button up and a lacy pink bra property of Rose I gathered. My hair was cut in the bob style. Perfect for my uneven length now. The back of hair reached the nap of my neck while the front continued asymmetrically to just a centimeter below my chin. My bangs were cut fringe style and my brown toned hair was jet black. I looked edgy and professional.

I smiled feeling like I look like this for forever, which I probably would. "You are a genius." I tell her.

"Of course." And she tells me I should go eat. I didn't know how thirsty I was. It sounded so good, but horrifying. The wolves would be crawling all over the place, before I could say anything Alice tells me I am not disappearing so no wolves. I look over at Nessie who eyes me heavily.

"You hungry too?" I ask her willing to take her along. She grabs her throat softly, but then touches my face.

She replays an image of her father hunting. She replays the first time I saw her and the expression was the same. Back then Rose blood was just that. A sweet treat. As time continued her scent was just a part of who she was. Animal's blood was more than enough, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't say human blood was not great. But I just got over it. I wonder how many vampires actually get over their blood singers. Somewhere below the tiles I swear I heard Edward's low laugh.

I walk towards the door and as I leave I hear Edward's voice. I turn to see him and Bella holding hands. Nessie is being them.

"You know you are family. If you wanted to take Nessie hunting…"

"We trust you." Bella finishes and Nessie jumps up and down. I recall Bella's meltdown in the car when I mentioned hunting with Nessie. So the whole time they were watching me? I nod. Please with the victory.

"I'll have her back in one piece." I tell her and I take Roseblood's hand. For once I felt as though I was human again.
