DIVIDED NATIONS

PART 1

Editors Note: I apologize for the very long hiatus for both X-Men and New Mutants. And I also apologize the short length for this issue and for NM, the next few issues will be much much longer. Other than that, enjoy!

"Citizens of Earth. I am Magneto."

New York City; Time Square:

Sudden surges within all of the screens turn from mindless consumerism, and turned into a distorted image of Magneto.

Magneto: (Screens) The mutant race has returned, and they are stronger than ever. You've seen on the news the "Walking Town" that your newscasters have been calling it. That was of my doing. All done by one mutant. They are capable of controlling the very Earth itself.

London, England:

Inside of some random person's car, the radio that was being broadcasted started to static out. The driver tried to fix this by switching stations.

Driver: Bloody radio. Magneto: (Voice; Static) ... -able of controlling the very Earth itself.

Driver: What the hell?

Magneto: (Voice) No matter where you are, no matter where you will go, the Brotherhood will show the world just how powerful these new mutants have become.

Store in Japan:

In the electronics department, the screens of the televisions displayed become distorted, as it clears up, with Magneto displayed on the screens. Under Magneto, text is displayed in Japanese. Many customers watch.

Magneto: (Screens) The small city in West Virginia was just a demonstration. We have more of those that powered the "Walking Town"...

Moscow, Russia:

Right in the middle of the Red Square was one of the many Animus machines deployed by Magneto. A Brotherhood member stands next to it, slouching next to it. The Square had been deserted, and armed officials stand, with their guns pointed at the Brotherhood member.

Magneto: (V.O.) I've sent dozens of these, what I have called them, Animus machines, all across the globe, in such populated cities like San Francisco, Vancouver, Cairo, Paris, and dozens more. They're primed and fully prepared to manipulate the very Earth around it, and turn into a tall colossus. If you do not want to end up being ripped apart by one of these Animus', you're presidents, prime ministers, and any other government officials must give in to my demands.

"My main demand is for all nations to bow down, and to give all their political powers to me. This is a new world, ladies and gentlemen. One where mutants have returned, and are stronger, and more powerful than ever. For when the day comes that our race outnumbers yours, you will fear us. Because we are following what evolution has made us to become..."

New Utopia; Cerebro:

The video cuts off from the large screen that was displayed above Cerebro. All the X-Men and New Mutants members (with the exception of Storm) are present and accounted for, along with the inclusion of Drift, the now former Brotherhood member. Xavier was disgusted by Erik's unnatural turn of actions.

Wolverine: That son of a bitch.

Beast: Splendid. Looks like we might have another war between mutants and humans... again.

Professor X: No. Not this time. I will not allow Erik to wage another war with the humans. Not in this new dawn.

Marvel Girl: Well then, what are we waiting for? Let's get planning.

Savage: Why not attack him again? You all know where his base is, surely you can do it again.

Kitty: Last time we did that, we barely stood a chance.

Drift: Plus if Magneto even sees any of you near the Savage Land, he'll activate the machines.

Professor X: This team alone won't be able to deal with this threat. We're going to need more support. Much more support.

Wolverine: What, you mean the other teams?

Professor X: More. I'm talking about the Fantastic Four, Avengers, anyone.

Wolverine: Then we'll just wait for the call to come in.

As Wolverine said that, a ringtone played, coming from Beast's phone. He grabbed his phone out of his pocket with his big paw hands and picked up the call.

Wolverine: Well, whaddayaknow? My prayers came right on time.

Beast: Hello? (He hands the phone over to Xavier) It's for you, Charles. It's the United Nations.

Professor X: (takes the phone and presses it towards his ear) Hello? ... You want us over in New York? ... Yes. We'll be on our way. (He hangs up)

Kitty: Well?

Professor X: They want a few of us to go to the United Nations Headquarters in New York City...

United Nations HQ; New York City:

Off the coast of Manhattan was New Utopia. One of the X-Jets flew out of the gigantic floating base and flew down near the U.N. building. Out from the jet doors came Professor Xavier, Beast, Wolverine, Kitty Pryde & Marvel Girl, acting as "Ambassadors" for the Mutant race. They were then escorted inside of the building, heading to The General Assembly. The doors opened, and everyone turned from their seats to stare at the new honorary guests. The speaker glanced at them.

Speaker: Ah! They've arrived, ladies and gentlemen! The Mutants are then taken to the front where the Speaker was, and sat down in the chairs behind him.

Speaker: Now that everyone's here, we can begin. Set to the side was a large screen, with footage running showing the multiple machines placed around the world.

Speaker: (Cont) Ladies and gentlemen, we are being threatened. One man has formed his own army of mutants and has built these machines in an attempt to make all of the nations surrender. We have experienced what these machines can do unfortunately, which is why we must make sure they must not be activated. This is why we've brought a few mutants to the conference here tonight. Please welcome Charles Xavier and his X-Men. (This prompts Professor X to stand up to the podium)

Professor X: Good evening, everyone. I assume you all know who I am, but for those of you who don't I am Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men. I have dealt with Magneto countless times over the years. This battle might be our most challenging yet. We could only have stopped the "Walking Town" in West Virginia with two of our teams, and I fear there may not be enough of us to stop Magneto and his plans. This is why I am begging you all to join together to foil Magneto's goals.

There was silence throughout the assembly. One ambassador from the Middle East stood up.

Ambassador: If this is the only way we can stop this madman from threatening to destroy us all, the I wholly support it. Another Ambassador stands up.

Ambassador #2: I agree. The only way we can stop Magneto is if we work together.

More and more people started agreeing with what Xavier said, till the point where the whole assembly cried out in support. Xavier couldn't help but let out a small smile. Xavier sat back down, as the Speaker returned to the podium.

Speaker: So, I can see we're all in an agreement. I would like to also announce something. In the wake of the rise of mutants, and the stance that the X-Men have made over the years with Utopia, the United Nations are proud to announce that New Utopia will be identified as it's own nation, and will be joining the ranks of all the other United Nations representatives! There was massive applause from all fronts.

The X-Men were surprised by this news, but felt appreciated to now be fully realized as it's own place for Mutants. Today was the day Mutants won. But tomorrow... Tomorrow was the day the humans and mutants won together...
