Hey guys. I am soo sorry! I've just been in and out of it. Then I got grounded. My grades are embarrassing. And then there's drama. School and family drama. There's just soo many things that I have to deal with. But I finally got this chapter done. I hope you guys can forgive me for this. I'm trying my best right now to update more frequently while giving you guys something to read instead of some crappy filler chapter or some boring chapter. I don't want to quit FanFicion. I've seen lots of authors putting there stories on hiatus or just giving up and I don't want to do that.
So here's the chapter y'all have been waiting for... I hope you enjoy!
Tris
I fall with a loud thud. My tail flops against the cool floor, my face and hands slap against the floor. Only to skid forward a little and hit a rack with my tail. I reach for what look like my glasses and quickly place them on. I open my eyes to see Uriah gaping at me like a fish. His eyes practically buldge as he tries to close his mouth. He finally closes his mouth. He blinks a few times before slowly creeping over to the door. Then, he starts to sprint.
I thrust my arm in-the-direction of the cool metal door. My palm is facing the lock, with fingers side by side. There's a loud crack and squeak as Uriah jumps away from the door.
"Don't... Don't you dare leave Uriah Pedrad!" I bark.
He scrambles back, bumping into a rack, knocking boxes of fruit, juice, water and ice cream over. He looks over to the mess, wincing before turning back to me. His brow furrow as he opens his mouth.
"Wh– What are you? Are you some sort of monster?!" He asks.
I ignore him as I twist my upper body to look at my tail. It isn't completely soaked. Just damp. I face my right hand toward my tail. I slowly clench my hand as the sound of hissing steam fills the silence of the room.
"What are you doing now?" He spluttered. In my peripheral vision, I see Uriah recomposing himself as he takes a deep breath. "What are you doing now?" He asks a little louder this time.
I keep my hand over my tail as I turn my head to him.
"I'm trying to dry off." I sighed.
"Dry off? How– What?" He starts to breathe quickly. "Tris, just tell me. What are you?" He asks.
I blink once or twice before moistening my lips with the tip of my tongue.
"I–" I choke before I could start. "I'm... I'm a mermaid." I murmured. I look down at the cool floor as my hand slaps against my tail from exhaustion.
There's a snort and cackle. I look up in confusion to see Uriah laughing his butt off. He clutches his stomach as he bends over, gasping for air.
"Thanks for the laugh, Tris. Now tell me, is this some sort of stunt. A prank? Where's the camera. Four? Zeke? Chris? Will? Lynn? All of you better get your ass–"
"This isn't a joke, Uriah! In case you haven't noticed, Four is not our– or my friend anymore. Actually, he lost that title long ago. Zeke? Same as you, an asshole. The others? They're all outside. Waiting for me to return so that my friends and I can leave."
Uriah shakes his head. "This isn't real. It can't be real. How can this be rea–" before he can finish his question, I start to glow a bright blue. My tail shifts as bubbles swirl around me.
I twist my torso to see my black and silver sweater and pale legs. I sigh in relief as I push myself up from the floor. I turn to Uriah looking down in shame as he fiddles with his black apron.
"Is this why you're 'afraid' of water?" He asks.
I simply nod.
"Does anyone else know?"
I shrug, not really wanting to give him a straight answer.
"Most likely Caleb." He mumbles.
There's a brief silence before Uriah frowns.
"I really messed up didn't I?"
I stand there, dumbfounded. I want to scream at him. Tell him all about the nasty things he, his brother and Four have done to the girls and I. But I can't. I've been missing Uriah well, all of the boys for sometime now.
Instead, I reply, "What do you mean Uriah?"
"Ever since my dream, hallucination, vision. Whatever you want to call it... I– I've changed. My personality, my interests, my moods. I've lost all of my friends. Zeke won't talk to me. Marlene– oh, Marlene. I... I guess I'm just this big—"
"Jerk?" I suggest. He shoots me a small, shameful smile.
"Yeah... I'm really sorry, Tris. I wish there was some way I could make it up to you. Some way we could possibly be friends?" He asks.
I slightly frown as I bite the inside of my cheek. Is there a chance of us ever becoming friends again? I really want us to become friends once more. But, I don't know if we can. But then I can't just say no to him.
"I– I really don't know Uriah. I mean, there's a lot going on..." I pause. "But please, don't tell anybody! Not a soul. If someone finds out, I could end up on a thick slab of metal, being picked at with sharp tools, and– and end up as some circus freak!"
He raises his right hand. "I promise, Tris. I swear, I won't tell a soul."
My frown fades as I give him a small smile. I'm not sure if I could trust him yet. I want to, but I have to be more careful. One slip up, and my life is over.
I turn to the door and raise my arm. I clench my had softly so that I won't melt the door. In seconds, the lock thaws.
"You gotta teach me how to do that someday, Tris." He says in awe, fiddling with his hands.
I smile a little. "Sure, Uriah."
And with that, I open the cool room door, and leave. I dodge waiters, women, men and children before reaching the exit. Mark, Will, And the girls are still at the entrance, making small talk.
"I–I'm sorry girls, I uh... I have to go. Caleb just called, something about needing help . Um, I'll call you guys tomorrow. Bye!" I lie before shoving my hands into my pockets and quickly walk away.
Christina shouts something, but I block her out.
Uriah knows. Uriah knows. Uriah wants to be friends again.
He knows.
Again, I am sooo sorry! I've never felt this bad before in my entire life. I hope you all can forgive me for my lack of updates and unsatisfying chapter. (To me)
