Chapter Four- Death of Sky and Love
Adella's POV
The sky was dark, with minuscule spots of light dancing and shining, gloating of their beauty and rarity. The campfire burned an uncertain shade of green.
The Apollo cabin slowed their strumming, and uncle Will, who was leading the songs, called for silence.
Chiron clip-clopped forward, with that Ryan kid beside him. Ryan's ankle was newly wrapped in a splint, but he still limped. In one hand, he held unused crutches.
"Today a new camper joins us. He has been claimed by the pit god, Tartarus." Chiron proclaimed. Murmurs broke out, so Chiron stomped his hoof against a rock, calling for silence.
"He needs a place to stay until a cabin for him can be built. Anyone willing?"
More murmurs. Chiron's gaze stayed on Kit James, the head counselor of the Hermes cabin. She shook her head, shrugging. Even though more cabins were being built, the Hermes cabin was still full. Sometimes Dad talks about when he first came, and how the Hermes cabin was even more packed.
"He can stay in the Hades cabin." Everyone turned to look at uncle Nico, who was the one who had spoken. "I mean, Hades and Tartarus are fairly similar."
Chiron nodded. "Then it is decided. He shall stay there."
Sage's POV
Dark nights are the best. The torches of Greek fire cast wicked shadows with their green and flickering light, making every shadow appear to be a monster creeping up on unsuspecting victims.
After the campfire, I talked with aunt Thalia for a while, but then uncle Nico and uncle Will came over with Bianca, and she began fawning over the little girl. I couldn't help the wave of jealousy I felt towards the little girl. Being the center of attention all the time must be nice.
I decided to take a walk on the beach before I went to bed. The constant swishing of the waves cleared my head, as if they were washing away my worries and the sand.
To my surprise, I was not alone. Damien laid across the sand in a rather awkward position.
I jogged over to greet him, then I noticed the blood.
Kylee's POV
As I laid in my bed, staring at the grey and shadowed ceiling, I dreamed of something different. Something new.
That Ryan kid was pretty cute. It wouldn't take much to make him mine.
I still couldn't believe Adella had stolen Reed away from me. What did he see in her? She had ratty black hair with major split ends, and her eyes were the color of a swamp. Her skin looked like she tried to get a tan, but it didn't work all that well. Plus, she was fat.
And yet, she had gotten Reed. Oh well. Now Ryan will be mine, and I will be just as good- no, better- than her.
I felt myself drifting off to sleep, just as a beam of light crossed over the room.
Sophey's POV
The morning was very eventful. But not in a good way.
Aunt Piper and Uncle Jason were hysterical. Ferrell hadn't been seen all morning.
Even I couldn't stop crying. Damien may have been a handful, but he was also sweet and really smart. Kylee could be really mean, but normally she was tolerable. And besides, no one deserves to die.
The strange thing was that the new kid, Ryan or whatever, wasn't seen either. I had my suspicions, and I had a knife.
But first I decided I should be smart about it. After breakfast, I went over to interrogate Sage, who had found Damien's body.
"So, Sage, where did you find the body?" I asked, gulping away the sobs.
"H-he... on the beach." Sage said, his face pale.
"Anything odd?"
"His blood... it was black."
"Thanks Sage. That'll be it."
Baron's POV
"Hey Baron." I turned around to see Sophey Valdez.
"What do you want?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I need your help."
"No."
"Please! It's important." Her eyes were wide and begging.
Her face didn't make me budge. "I have more important stuff to do." I turned back around, and began to walk off.
"It's about Damien."
That got my attention. I turned, eyebrow raised.
"What do you want me to do?"
Nico's POV
The stupid kid hadn't left the cabin all morning, and now he had the nerve to lock the door. Wow. Just... wow.
"Hey, kid, open the door."
No answer.
"I will break it down."
Silence.
"Stand back."
I raised my foot, and kicked the door off of it's hinges. I stepped into the room, and stepped back in shock.
The kid stood in the middle of the room, his clothes covered in dark blood.
"You should have stayed away."
The kid's voice was gravelly, like stone against stone.
He raised his hand, and suddenly it was dark.
