Even though she was trying her best to be quiet it wasn't working. Sesshomaru lifted himself from the couch and watched her move around the kitchen for bit. She must have been in a zone because he was able to get up from the couch and make his way to the kitchen with out her noticing. "You're not good at being quiet."
"Sorry." She laughed. "Breakfast?" He nodded. She turned around and got to work. "So about last night-" Before she could finish he had his hands on either side of her gripping the counter and his lips to her ear.
"You know how I feel now, I can only leave the decision to you." He grabbed her hands and wrapped both of their arms around her body. Never had he opened himself to some one this much. "But I don't want you to think about it just yet. Give Inuyasha a chance, and when this is over I will be waiting for your decision."
"I'm not sure I understand. I hear what your saying, but do you see what your doing?"
"I didn't say I was going to stop showing you how I feel. However, should you tell me you choose Inuyasha I will walk away." She wanted to believe that what she thought last night was true, that she could just use them both with out remorse. But sitting here like this with him she knew she couldn't, she just wasn't that kind of person. After breakfast he helped her clear the table and staying true to his word he kissed her before he left.
Once he was gone she decided a bath would do her some good. It didn't take her too long to run her bath water and slide in to relax. Leaning back she closed her eyes and let her mind go. She wasn't sure how long it was before she heard a tap at her bathroom door.
"Hey." Inuyasha's voice came from the other side.
"Inyasha, your here early." She rose from the bath and grabbed a towel. "Shouldn't you be at work?"
"Just got off." She thought to herself that it was a bit odd he never told her what he did. "But hey, I have something I want to tell you and Sesshomaru, so get dressed and come to the main house with me."
"Okay." She sighed. Thirty minutes later she was hand in hand with Inuyasha headed to the main house.
"Your late, I don't like waiting." Sesshomaru was behind his desk as they walked into his office.
"Yeah yeah." Inuyasha waived him off. "So, guess where I get to go!" Inuyasha smiled plopping down on one of Sesshomaru's chairs and throwing his leg over the arm rest.
"Do refrain your self from ruining my furniture little brother." Kagome took a seat next to Inuyasha.
"California!"
"For what?" Kagome asked.
"To speak to an old friend I presume?" Sesshomaru raised a brow.
"Yup."
"So when will you be back?" She didn't believe either of them but she thought it would be in her best interest to let it go.
"Don't know, I just thought I would tell my two most favorite people." He looked at Kagome "And by favorite I mean you." He offered her a charming grin. "Because it's business trip I have to tell you." He looked back to Sesshomaru.
Sesshomaru gave him and odd look. "Okay." Kagome squinted. "What are you taken and where can I get some?"
"What?"
"It's way to early to be as cheery as you are, you must be high." She said flatly. Sesshomaru wanted to laugh. She really wasn't a morning person no matter how much sleep she got.
"I am smoking nothing, but I do have something for you tonight."
"And that would be?" She asked.
"That would be a surprise."
"Oh, joy."
"Would you like to go back home? I'm sure Sesshomaru has a lot to do."
"I'm sure." She gave him a glance.
She ended up walking back by herself because Inuyasha still needed to pack. She liked it better this way because it gave her time to think about everything going on. The mob business was the easy part, but figuring out what to do with the brothers was he hard part. Kagome found herself in desperate need of advise and dialing the one number she could always count on to answer. "Hey Sango."
"Hey where have you been?" She practically yelled into the phone.
"Here and there, but I need your help."
"Any time, what is it?" Kagome took in a deep breath and explained every thing, well almost everything.
"Whoa, so let me get this strait, you almost got raped, but you were saved by a stranger. The same stranger who kidnapped you and forced you to help find your father. You ended up getting with his brother, but now the stranger likes you too, and you think you like both of them?" She finished.
"In a round about way, yes." Kagome sighed.
"And you're just now telling me!"
"Sango!"
"Okay, well first off I would say call the police, but from the sound of it you seem to doing alright."
"Yeah."
"Second, you need to get your feelings sorted out."
"Which is why I'm calling you."
"I would write down what you like about each guy and how they make you feel, then see how many match up with the qualities of your dream guy."
"You think that will work, you know what they say about opposites attracted." Kagome sighed. "Being an old cat lady sounds less stressful."
"Positive, I did it with Miroku."
"I'll take plan B."
"Kagome!"
"I'm sorry." She laughed. "It's just the he's so perverted."
"But he's still a nice guy. Look did you ask for my help or not?"
"Thanks Sango."
"No problem. Hey we need to get together so we can really talk about this."
"Sure, how about in three days?"
"Sounds good, see you then."
"Later." Kagome hung up the phone. It felt good to hear a familiar voice, it was comforting after all that had happened.
She didn't start getting ready until about seven o'clock. "I don't even know what to wear." After thirty minutes of holding things up to her body she finally decided on a body hugging black dress with a solid sweet heart chest line. From there a lace design covered the rest of her chest up to her neck. And just to keep life simple she curled her hair.
She stood back in front of the mirror "I don't even know if I can go through with this." she sighed, "But I have to try."
Inuyasha was there at about eight. "Are you ready?"
"As ready as ready can get." she smiled.
She managed through the night pretty well. Actually it had gone better than she thought. He had completely distracted her from everything going on. Since the weather was getting warmer they sat in Central Park and just looked at the stars with the rest of the couples. She remembered a time in her life when she thought something like this was beyond her reach. But being here now she knew it wasn't, maybe she could have this life with him.
They laughed all the way to the house and before she even thought twice she asked, "You want to stay here for the night?"
"Are you sure?" He had been so careful lately about giving her some space that he was almost taken back by her offer.
"Well your plane leaves the day after tomorrow and I have not seen you for awhile, so I thought it would be nice to spend some time together before you leave." She blushed.
"As if I could turn you down." He smiled and followed her into the living room. "And before I forget, Sesshomaru ask me to thank you for him."
"For?" She froze.
"He told me you re-wrapped his knee."
"Oh," She let out the breath she had been holding and continued to remove her shoes. "Yeah." she tossed them to the side and walked to the closet and pulled down an large blanket. "A bit chilly in here don't you think." She walked next to Inuyasha who was playing with the little trinkets atop of the fire place, with one turn of a knob a fire light the room. "Would you like me to take your coat?" Inuyasha removed his coat and handed it to her. "So did he say anything else," She asked hanging it up. She really hoped nothing else was said. "or was that all?"
"No, that was all."
"Oh, well-" Inuyasha caught her by the waist as she walked by.
"But I would rather not talk about him." He whispered pulling her to him.
"Inuyasha-" She was stopped by his kiss. She had forgotten the effect they had on her. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he walked her to the bed room. He didn't even bother turning on the light, the moon shining through the window was all he needed. Before laying her on the bed he unzipped the back of her dress.
Now it seemed she couldn't turn her mind off. Everything he did she wondered how it would feel if it was Sesshomaru. What if he touched her that way? What if he kissed her there? When he ran his hand up her dress and wrapped her leg around him she couldn't take it any more.
"Wait." She broke the kiss.
"What is it?"
"I'm sorry, I can't do this." She moved out from under him.
"If I was to pushy I can leave." He seemed legitimately concerned which made her feel even worse.
"No it's not that," She took in a deep breath "It's just I've had myself locked up in here for while," They both knew she really meant since the day at the wear house. "and I don't want this to be one of those vulnerable moments."
"Oh," he thought for a moment. "Well, we will just have to wait then." He smiled.
"Really?" Kagome smiled.
"Really." Inuyasha pulled her into his lap. "Kagome I respect you, and if you're not ready then I respect that."
She threw her arms around his neck. "Thank you Inuyasha."
When morning rolled around she woke up and found him gone. She stood to her feet and stretched out her sleeping muscles before going to the kitchen where she found a vase of Lilies and letter.
Good morning beautiful,
or maybe even afternoon
She laughed a bit.
I didn't want to leave with
out saying bye, but I was running
late so I apologize. But I want
you to know I wont stop thinking
about you when I'm away.
Love Inuyasha
Kagome smiled as she put the note on the refrigerator. She figure she should go tell Sesshomaru that she planned on having a friend over. She changed into new clothes and was out the door. As soon as she opened it Sesshomaru was standing there.
"I was under the impression a person knocks and then you answer."
"Well you are just the person I wanted to see." Kagome grinned.
"Am I?"
"Yup." She said leaning against the door. "I was just wondering, could I have an old friend over?"
"Why could you not?"
"Well I thought since it was your property and for other obvious reasons you would not want some stranger on your grounds."
"Well I thank you for checking with me. Just tell me when they arrive, if not I can make no promises they will be entirely safe."
"Deal." Kagome laughed.
"Now, my question for you."
"Shoot."
"Would like to go to a dinner with me?" Kagome froze. "I have a dinner appointment with some friend of my fathers, and I was wondering if you would like to join us." She let out her breath.
"So a business dinner?" She thought for a moment. "Whose it with?"
"The DeStafanos and Perez."
"As in Amillo Perez?" She eyed him. She remembered hearing his name growing up, he was the king pin for drug movement in and out of New York. He had almost all the dock workers and truck drivers on his pay roll. If you wanted to do business down there you had to go through him. The DeStafanos were fairly new to the scene, but their knack for violence gained quick notice from every one else. Her understanding of their family was an enforcer type, when the real dirty jobs needed to be done they were called in. "Why do I feel like this is a game changing dinner?" She laughed.
"It might be." He shrugged. "To be honest I don't do well at these things but my father is requesting our presence."
"Well I can't really turn it down then can I?"
"It's tomorrow."
"Cool." She wasn't exactly thrilled about going but after what happened with Izaiyo she felt guilty.
"I come with a request from one other person." He stopped her before she went inside. "Rin would enjoy your company at breakfast."
"Why not." She smiled.
