Bort the viking jumped up and down from the back of the crowd, trying to get a good view of Hiccup. He had not been blessed with the gift of height, and now it was really starting to piss him off. He attempted to climb the back of the viking right in front of him, but then the crowd cheered and the guy in front of him shook him off. Bort fell onto his back and his helmet bounced away behind him. Murmuring angrily to himself, he walked over and grabbed it, shining it with his shirt, catching a reflection of the motion on the mountain. Bort gulped, looked up, and then screamed like a little girl.
The Black Death roared, catching the crowd off-guard. Hiccup grimaced. Probably shoud've been watching that. The beast swooped down from its mountain stand and over the crowd, knocking a few that stood on the cliff into the water below.
"I see how easily I've been replaced!" Romulus yelled, his voice beginning to go higher and his speech patterns increasing in speed. He let out a hyena laugh. "I can do that, too!" He raised his staff at the island. "Blast them."
The Black Death fired an ice blast from its central head. It impacted with a sunlight-esque beam that Solstice had fired in response. The two blast collided for a while until each dragon had ended its assault. Solstice screeched at her much larger opponent, attempting to egg him on. Hiccup grabbed his helmet and rushed towards Toothless, bounding onto his place in the saddle with heroic speed.
"Let's go, bud."
The armor-clad Night Fury bounded in to the air towards the large dragon, as Hiccup unsheathed the white metal blade that rode at the waist of his ancestor's armor. With the speed of the wind, Toothless rolled around the center-most head of the Black Death, giving Hiccup a chance to swing his sword at his deranged uncle. Years of experience, unfortunately, had trained the Black Knight to the point where he had expected the move. Romulus blocked the swing. Unexpectedly, though, his young nephew jumped down from his dragon and landed upon the neck of the Black Death, where he took his chance to swing again, colliding with Romulus' side armor. The old Emperor grabbed his side and watched as his enemy's Night Fury flew around his dragon, blasting at the other four heads.
"H...how?" Romulus questioned. "Your dragon can't fly on its own!"
"Surprised?!" Hiccup yelled back as he lifted his hands up in a showman-like manner before returning to his battle stance. "So am I."
Toothless roared at his opponent and then performed an acrobatic dance to pass through a stream of rocks. He became very proud of his rider for the excellent manuever, when he realized he didn't have one. Curious, he looked back at his saddle. A faint shimmer of white in the shape of a man sat on Toothless' back, with no weight or physical features, but it was somehow controlling Toothless' prosthetic to perform exactly what he was thinking. A wave of adrenaline and confidence passed through the Night Fury and he turned, shooting towards his monumentally larger opponent, and let loose a stream of blue plasma blasts at the heads attempting to snap him up.
"How long have you been planning to take my throne, huh?" Romulus swung horizontally at Hiccup's head, who ducked in time to avoid the blow.
"About the same amount of time you've been offering it." Hiccup responded, bringing his sword upward, where it was blocked by Romulus' staff.
"Come now, nephew, you can't say that you never even thought about trying to take it." Romulus slid both his hands down to one side of his staff and swung it like a baseball bat.
"Don't call me that!" Hiccup tackled his opponent and rolled over him. Standing up, he pointed his sword at the downed Romulus. romulus knocked the sword away from him as he bounded up.
The Black Death roared at the little nuisance that flew along side of him. Toothless roared back and then fired at one of the beasts' eyes, making it even angrier. One of the heads breathed a blast of acid at the Night Fury, but the small dragon was too fast to be hit by the weak attempt. The power of Alpha Mode surged through the small dragon and his blasts impacted the black dragon with enough force to push its heads back with every attempt to strike at him. The few sneak attacks that the Black Death attempted on his opponent were mysteriously blocked by flashes of white light that emulated the swings of a sword or shield.
"You have skill, boy." Romulus blocked a side attack by his young nephew. "There's just one problem."
Hiccup took a few more swings, all blocked by Romulus' skill with his staff. The last one caused both of their weapons to touch the ground.
"And what would that be?" Hiccup asked, Romulus' face merely inches from his own.
"You're still just a boy." Romulus tackled his nephew to the ground and swung at the perfect position to knock Hiccup's sword from his hand.
Romulus smiled as he lifted his staff up for a final blow. Hiccup braced as the metal came down, but the blow never came. Opening his eyes, Hiccup was welcomed by the white silhouette of a large man wielding a battleaxe, which now held the staff a foot above Hiccup's head. Astonished, Romulus looked at the head of the white silhouette, whom lifted his axe, pushing the Roman away. Taking a quick glance at Hiccup, the spirit charged at Romulus. Changing into a white light, it surged towards Romulus' heart. Falling to his knees, the Black Knight clutched at his chest before the spirit erupted from it.
During the commotion, Hiccup had remembered the secret weapon that sat in his back pocket. Rolling to grab his sword, he slid the Dragonstone out of its pouch and turned to watch as the spirit pulled away from Romulus and returned to the stone. Romulus attempted to stand up, still clutching at his chest which seared with an unknown kind of pain. Hiccup stared at him and then the Dragonstone before turning and sprinting for the central head of the Black Death. He jumped over the crest on its head and turned to face it as he slammed the stone into its forehead, impacting with a flash of white light.
