Hermione Granger looked up at the top shelf in awe. She was playing in her mother's study as her mother worked on some paperwork for the dentistry. The two year old had just recently found that the stories her parents read to her were in books. Books just like the brightly colored ones on the top of the shelf. Now her books were much smaller but Hermione figured that the bigger the book the more fun stories there were.
So she toddled to her mother and pulled on her sleeve. When her mother looked down at her with a kind smile Hermione pointed towards the top of the shelf. Mrs. Granger chuckled as Hermione started to chant. "Book! Book!" over and over again.
"No darling. I already gave you your books. Those are mummy's and daddy's book. You're still too little yet." She said gently before turning back to her work.
Hermione toddled back to her spot and pouted. She might be young but she had heard that phrase enough times to know what it meant. She wasn't going to be given those books. She looked back at the shelf and smiled as she saw that there were step like things going up it. She had seen her daddy climb the big ladder out front and she was carried up and down the steps in the house every day. So in childish wisdom she toddled to the shelf and tried to climb up.
She got up to the third shelf when she looked down and noticed that the floor was far away from her. She started to get scared but really wanted that book so she kept trying. She went up two more before her fear overcame her and she started crying.
Mrs. Granger turned around and gasped. She quickly got up just in time to see her two year old daughter fall three feet to the ground. Oddly enough the child had no bump or even a red spot on her head. But her mother figured her already bushy hair had protected her head. She kissed her head before putting her back on the floor and going back to her work.
Hermione looked back up at the brightly colored books and frowned. While she still wanted the books she was too afraid to climb up again. That's when she remembered the story her mummy read her the day before. She couldn't remember much but a little girl wish for something to come to her and it did. So Hermione closed her eyes really tight and wished with all her might for the books to come to her.
A minute later Mrs. Granger turned around to see her daughter surrounded by the books from the top shelf. She couldn't believe it. She had heard a bump but couldn't figure out how they got to the floor. She chuckled at the sight of her giggling two year old happily turning the pages and looking at the pictures. Until she realized that the book Hermione was looking at was a human anatomy textbook and she wasn't on fingers or toes.
She quickly snatched the books back from her daughter and sighed as Hermione started to scream and books started falling from the shelves. She figured something was wrong with the shelves as she carried her very special daughter out of the room.
(I know its short but let me know what you think. Thanks! I do not own Harry Potter no matter how many memory charms I use. It belongs to JK Rowling.)
