Hello! Thank you Children of Light and tory . hugges for reviews and the advice! I still had trouble writing this but here it is! Most of the chapter is in normal POV since for some reason, my first person POVs sounded really bad. With the utmost effort possible I present to you Not Expected!

Disclaimer: I don't own Shugo Chara.

'Precious Secrets And Beautiful Liars' by TheLingeringWolf = most of the story inspiration ( my fanfic Anything But This was basically a rip-off off that )

'Got to be perfect Not' by bleachlover1999 = Rima's disguise

And it also is now highly influenced by Durarara!

Normal POV

I have no choice, Nagihiko told himself. Like this, somehow all the problems that threaten his normal everyday life were solved. He laid in the nurse's office next to his unusually uncurious friend, Kukai.

They had a few minutes where they just stared into each other eyes, blinking, breathing, seemingly normally, trying to figure out what the other was thinking, not realizing how awkward it would have been to someone passing by.

The window curtains were wide open.

Their stares were anything but affectionate. It wasn't anything emotional either, they were not trying to send any wordless messages to each other. Kukai and Nagihiko simply want to know what the other was thinking without needing to ask any questions.

As usual, Nagihiko came up with nothing. Kukai, however, had a look of understanding on his face. Kukai closed his eyes, resting his mind, entering his own world, leaving Nagihiko with nobody to talk to or anything to do.

He left Nagihiko to think. Nagihiko had failed to breach Kukai's barrier once again. It has always been that way. As much as Nagihiko could understand so called 'humans', he could not ever understand Kukai.

Nagihiko had a pride like everyone else. And that pride insisted that the only reason he hung with Kukai was because he didn't understand him and want to crack his barrier.

Another part of him knew. Another part of him admitted. Without Kukai there to chain him down, he was really nothing. Without his so called best friend, Nagihiko could not survive this cruel world. But this so called friendship was probably just Nagihiko relying on Kukai. Never had they done anything that would test their bonds. Nagihiko believed that they would probably fail most of them. Most of the trails of friendships. But that wasn't what he was thinking about at the moment.

Nagihiko understood human emotions.

But because he understood them, it made himself the most vulnerable to them.

Kukai was the one who taught him to live with blind eyes. Kukai taught him, without even trying, maybe not even realizing, how to ignore the misfortunes of others. Nagihiko had learned that just before he became the person he was then. If Nagihiko hadn't, he would have long ago went mental, deranged, lunctical, psychopathic, delirious, or simply insane. Nagihiko, after all, was one of those people who always was thinking about others.

Nagihiko began to feel tired, his memories of that incident came to him slightly blurry.

His thoughts flowed to the beginning of their story.

Slowly, Nagihiko mimicked Kukai. Slowly, he closed his eyes.

\

She stopped her sigh before it could turn into a huge one. She smiled and talked about unimportant things with her friends. One of her friends sported a unique color of hair, pink.

It was hard to believe she was only nine. She came from a traditional family background, she was a Fujisaki. She was at such a young age, just in third grade. But already was she the most liked out of all her peers. In other words, she was the class's beloved princess. She was a kind, gentle, graceful princess.

This she was named Nadeshiko.

Everyday she would smile, everyday she would giggle, everyday she would be helpful and kind to the people around her. The teachers were astonished by her, a model student, perfectly obedient.

But no one knew that that she was actually a guy.

A crossing dressing guy was the class's princess.

\

The first time anyone even considered Nadeshiko being a guy was a year later. Even then, it wasn't anything huge. It was around the lines of her being more and more reluctant to change in public. Also, it was due to her amazing athletic ability. Around this time was when she first friended Kukai. They met each other in a soccer game with their friends. The two of them went to different elementary schools. Kukai went to Mita North and Nadeshiko to Mita South.

How they met was a friendly neighborhood game with the other peers their age. Nadeshiko didn't know any of the children from Mita North so she simply chose stand on the sidelines with Amu, watching the game. There was one less player on Mita North's team but it was just children playing, no one cared as long as they had fun.

Kukai was on the field as Mita North's middle center, his close friends as forwards. He and his friends made a V shaped on their side of the field. Kukai was the bottom tip of the V and his friends were in front of him.

As soon as the ball was in play, the ball was hit towards Kukai, who passed the ball to the defenses. The ball was hit toward one of the Mita North's forwards. Kukai's friend failed to hit the ball into the goal and Kukai took the rebound.

Kukai shot the ball into the net accurately with effortless power and grinned. The goalie had hardly moved, having being in shock.

For awhile, the game was a cycle of variations of what happen the first time. Mita South repeatedly tried to stop the ball but there was nothing to show for it. Even with one more player, Mita South was losing.

That's when the ball was kicked out of the field, heading towards where Nadeshiko and Amu were standing.

The ball wasn't a straight shot, it wobbled on it path as it quickly made it's way to Nadeshiko and Amu. Nadeshiko jumped in front of Amu and caught the ball with her hands.

Nadeshiko smiled at the fact that she was wearing pants that day. She bounced the ball with her knees and kicked the ball into the air, catching and balancing it on her head.

" Mind if I join?" she asked. All the boys playing nodded, thinking Nadeshiko wouldn't be able to do much, despite her showy display.

But they were wrong.

Before they knew it , Nadeshiko was playing the spot as the striker, one of the forwards on Mita South. She was the one who scored all the points. Soon, the game consisted of the two teams scoring back and forth. Kukai and Nadeshiko were neck and neck.

For once, Nadeshiko didn't bother acting girly. Even when the sweat coming down from her forehead was becoming apparent she kept on playing.

That was the first time she became free. Or rather he became free.

Soon after that game, Kukai and Nadeshiko congratulated each other. They both left with their friends. Nadeshiko's friends, talking excitedly, amazed of what she could do, and Kukai's friends grinning about a great game.

The game was a tie.

The next time they saw each other was after another neighborhood game between Mita South and North, Kukai showed but Nadeshiko did not. Afterwards, Kukai was dragged by his parents to see a traditional Japanese recital.

There he saw Nadeshiko on stage. And he was moved by her dancing.

They were only nine.

Unbeknownst to Kukai, Nadeshiko saw Kukai in the seats while performing.

But when the recital was over, despite passing by each other, Nadeshiko still in full makeup, neither said hello.

The next time they would meet was elementary school graduation. The summer before the second year of middle school was the time they spent the most together. That was the visible start of their friendship.

After all, they decided together that Nadeshiko would go to school as Nagihiko starting the next year.

\

Unintentionally, both boys thought of the same thing. They both reminisced about the past as if they were living it. But they didn't know the other was doing the same. The same thoughts probably helped them remember more about the incidents. Still, they continued to sit there.

Before they left the nurse's room, they had one conversation. By then, Nagihiko had stopped being dramatic about his so called fall on the soccer field during physical education. By then, they were visibly in zen mode.

" So why did the ball head towards the transfer student's direction?" Kukai, thinking he knew the answer, expecting and sheepish sounding response.

But the response Nagihiko gave to that question was a little unexpected.

The response he gave was a soft laugh.

The soft laugh had an edge to it though, it was an edge of bitterness.

Kukai's jaw almost dropped at the response. Almost. Nagihiko just kept on laughing as Kukai looked at him.

" Are you looking for a honest answer?" Nagihiko finally replied, still laughing bitterly.

" Why else would I ask?" Kukai told Nagihiko, recovered from a slight shock. It had been awhile since Kukai had guessed Nagihiko's response wrong. An inkling of him told him that the change that was happening was the cause of it.

What was bothering Kukai was that he didn't know what was causing a change, just that there was one and that it would become larger. The change would grow into a whole new life. The normal school days would end. That, Kukai knew.

" I don't know why the ball headed to the transfer student" Nagihiko inwardly debated. That was the reply Kukai expected. " I willed it there, I wanted it to go there," Nagihiko paused and trailed off, " I don't know."

People who did know but didn't really want to see what really was going on say things like 'I don't know' more than once. Kukai, though being hopeless at understanding everyone's but Nagihiko's feelings, knew that.

Nagihiko was one of those people.

Just at the moment though.

Nagihiko was the one who taught Kukai about the tells of uncertain or lying people. Nagihiko should have noticed what he was saying.

Even though Kukai was slightly confused, he let it slide.

" I seriously think I kicked it because of some stupid urge. Maybe I'm being rebellious." Nagihiko continued.

" Yeah, you kick a ball at a girl because you're being rebellious" Kukai grinned.

Nagihiko nodded to himself. He was being rebellious, that had to be it. If it wasn't him being rebellious, he didn't know what it was. He was afraid that he didn't know. He always knew everything about about himself. He had experienced every emotion possible.

He had experienced every emotion except one.

" Maybe I'll date that Rima girl," Kukui started, Nagihiko listening more intently at the name Rima,"you know, the transfer student. She'll be more likely to forgive you for the ball hitting her if I do date her. Even it was an accident," Kukai blabbed ," she's so tiny, I'm sure she's pretty cute if I get her to take off her glasses"

" The kick wasn't an accident and you would faint at how pretty she is," Nagihiko mumbled.

" What?" Kukai questioned. He had only heard 'pretty she is.'

" Nothing," Nagihiko said, wondering himself about what exactly he said.

Rima POV

" This mask hides who you are Rima, no one will approach again you knowing the true you"

" I know...I know"

" You can see them, sitting in the distance. Don't you think nothing will ever break apart their friendship?"

" Where? I don't see them"

" There, look, the window. They're inside the nurses office."

Rima heard these girls chatting happily and she sighed in disgust. It felt like how boys would have fawned over her in her last school.

But not this school, she made sure of that. She had carefully listened to her last loyal friend's advice. Her disguise was perfect.

" Don't smile, don't act friendly, don't act mean. Dress horribly but in a way that doesn't look like a fashion disaster. Horrible fashion will get people talking. What you want is absolute silence. If any people come to you after you do all that, it means they are either stupidly nice, stupidly mean or seriously messed up."

So? Who do you think Rima's last friend is? Or who do you want it to be? There's more to Kukai and Nagihiko past too! I still need to figure out how to put it in words and what going to happen specifically. Look forward to the next chapter and make sure to review!

edit: I realized there was a time conflict between chapters 5 and 6, fixed it. It used to say that they became friends in the summer before the first year of middle school. :P terrible me.
