Mike almost fainted from all the terrible thoughts going through his head but the first thing that came to mind which worried him the most. When his father didn't respond for a few seconds, mike answered first.
"I-is mom alright?! Wh-whe-where i-i-is she?!" The boy knew that you couldn't make long distance calls from the prison, so his guess as to where he was, was his own house. He didn't like this thought one bit.
"Oh, your mother is just sleeping right now. And don't worry about any kind of lack of transportation to get home from school. I can pick you up."
"NO! I-I-I...I mean...n-n-no need, I-I've a-already agreed to let a friend pick me up and take me home." Mike told his father, shakiness in his voice. He had a feeling that his father could sense his fear as he chuckled through the phone.
"I'll admit, I've been needing to apologize to you in person for all the bad memories we've shared. But I will make it up to you, after all the trouble I caused. During my time in prison, I realized that I was wrong and that you and your mother deserve better. Which is how I got out, from my community service and good behavior over the years. I bet you think I sound like some mischievous evil mastermind villain, jail escapee. Well my response is you've been watching too many cartoons and there's doubt that I'm a changed man." Mike didn't believe a single word that was coming from his father's mouth. He'll admit that his tone did sound rather genuine...but certain words still felt rigid.
"You know what...why don't I just come by the school now and pick you up? How does that sound? Your mother's cooking a big 'welcome home' feast!" His father's voice actually was starting to fool him, Mike's paranoid shaking slowly stopped, his heart slowed down to a normal pace, and a small smile started to appear. A smile of hope.
"... S-sure….dad, sounds good." He couldn't believe what he'd just said but another half of him...actually felt comfortable with trusting him again.
"Alright, goodbye son."
"Bye dad…." With that, Mike hung up the phone, finished the last ten minutes of his class, then headed to his first class to retrieve his backpack. Just as he heard a familiar voice in his head.
"Aye! 'Ya whiley dingo! Don't you get in that car, 'ya know dad will never change!"
"Well I think he has, Manny." Mike retorted to Manitoba.
"Look, never mind that, mate! I've got bad news, It's Mal and D! Where we are...there's some serious trouble!" Mike's eyes bulged in shock from Manitoba's sentence.
"What's going on?!"
"Mal and D just came charging in as an ambush while the rest of us were asleep. Vito took on Mal, I tried D. We both failed, meanwhile; Chester was hiding the whole time and Svetlana is carrying him to safety. I hate to tell 'ya this, mate...but...one of those two nuts could take over your mind now whenever they want." Mike stopped dead in his tracks, just a few feet away from the office when his name was called over the speakers to come down so he could be escorted out.
"WHAT?!" He shouted in horror. The door to the office opened and out popped the head of the vice principal, whom the principal called "intern number 2". She just raised an eyebrow at Mike who just looked away, embarrassed by his outburst and just walks in. He doesn't see his father, just the counselor who hands him the clipboard to sign his name on, then he's given the cue to leave. Mike was a bit weirded out by the silence but kept moving until he made it outside, in which, just as promised, his father's old car was waiting for him. He felt surprisingly calm as he got closer and closer to the vehicle. The windows were tinted, so you could hardly see inside. Mike couldn't tell who was driving, despite having been told it was his father. He got in and saw his mother instead, he was taken back a bit at this sight but felt a little relieved anyway. It was just his usual kind mother. The very second that the door closed, the car sped off. Mike got a little suspicious of what was happening, then he noticed his mom's right hand was trembling and her eyelids appeared red and puffy like she had been crying. From the side that Mike wasn't facing, there was a big and bloated bruise. It was obvious that she was hiding certain parts of her body from her son while he scanned her head to toe.
"Mom...is something wrong?"
"Put on your seatbelt, dear." Mike tilted his head in slight confusion that she avoided his question, but then did as told. He felt it odd, to say the least, at how shaky and nervous the woman looked. Mike had a feeling that Mal wouldn't tale over unless needed...but D is stronger, and has been able to do what he wants for a long time. He could take over whenever he pleases. Maybe I should start looking up a translation for those labels when I get home, they might be able to help. I don't know...but I'll take what I can get.
"Uh...s-so how's that dinner coming? I heard it was gonna be a big welcome-home feast!"
"Wh-wh-who told you th-that?" His mother asked with a cringe in her voice, as if she knew the answer but was clearly afraid to hear it.
"Well...dad…". Mike responded, the woman sighed heavily with a saddened expression.
"... Honey...I think I'll take the long way home. You can just go to sleep, I can tell by the dried up mayo flakes in your hair that it must've been a rough day." His mom laughed lightheartedly, making Mike feel at ease. He, once again, did as told and gladly fell asleep. Going straight to his subconscious, his first sight was of the hallway that looked like it had been thrashed heavily by guns, lightning, and plenty of other snapable un-natural disasters. Mike ran in immediately and bolted through the corridor, on his way to the board room. Upon busting through the doors, all that could be seen was the leftover wreckage, as though the result of a hurricane and the game "Soldier" combined.
"SVETLANA! CHESTER! VITO!...Manny? WHERE ARE YOU GUYS?!"
Somewhere far away…. Mike's eyes bulged at the sound of this all-too-familiar voice…, he got scared but tried to hide it since now it was clear that he was on a rescue mission.
"D…"
I'm flattered that you remembered li'l ol' me! D said in a mocking tone.
"Where are you?!"
Somewhere hidden…. The voice now sounded like-
"Mal?! I-i-is that you?"
It's both of us, imbecile. Both D and mal said in sync. Mike hid his frustration as best he could. He just continued to look around for the other personas….
It's no use, you realize that? Mike snarled at D's voice then finally left the room and ran down the hall toward the wall that once had the door leading to mal's room on it. With some hard concentration, he managed to make the door re-appear and he quickly grabbed the knob, twisted it, and the first thing he saw was the full length mirror. Previously functioning as a portal to the darkness, it still resonated the purple-ish mist, giving Mike the idea that it might still work. He put his hand to the mirror's glass and his hand went through it. Mike's face lit up in excitement, thinking that maybe his personalities were in there, he jumped through it naively…. Not having any clue what could be on the other side. When Mike opened his eyes, he found himself in the mirror room, only instead of the usual octagon shape it had, it seemed to be one long hallway.
"This can't be it. I should probably just try a different mirror and see if it takes me to the right place." Mike turned around to head back through the mirror portal's entrance...just to find a blank wall in it's place. Trying to keep his cool, he just turned around and pressed on forward. It wasn't more than 5 steps ahead of him that he hit a mirror. In confusion upon realizing it was just another normal mirror, Mike turned to the right to head that way and he rammed face first into yet another mirror. Starting to get annoyed, he turned back to the left and went that way. This time he kept his hands far in front of him to feel around for any sneaky hidden walls. Just a few more steps was all it took for him to start getting dizzy as he was surrounded by mirrors that may or may not lead to another hallway or acted as just another wall.
"I'm in a...maze…."
