Ginger was led into the holding cell area by the guard. She approached the steel bars seeing the pathetic figure behind them. "Eva." She said calm voice as the guard left leaving the two women alone.
The prisoner looked up seeing her visitor. "What are you doing here? Come to gloat?" She sneered.
The movie star shook her head. "I have something I want to say and you are going to listen."
"I don't have to listen to anything." snapped Eva. "Just go away."
"No you are going to listen to me." Ginger said firmly. "I don't know what your issues are and frankly at this point I do not care. You could have made something of yourself. You could have been somebody. The fact that you didn't do this is not my fault. From day one you set out to steal my life. You wanted what I worked hard for."
"Worked hard?" scuffed Eva. "Is that what you call it when you are screwing a director to get a part in a movie?"
The redhead rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Sad you are sad. You have this image of me in your mind and you refuse to let go of it. You claim I'm a cheap slut who sleeps with producers and directors to land roles yet you have nothing to back up your claim. You say I'm a liar and yet you can't point to once instance where I have lied. You probably don't even know why you hate me so much do you?"
Eva glared at her. "You want to know why I hate you?" She said angerly. "I hate you because you have everything that I want and deserve! You have men falling all over you. You have a movie career and friends. I want that! I deserve that!"
"You don't get those things because you feel you are entitled to them." Ginger remarked. "You have to earn them. You have to work for them. You just wanted it all handed to you on a silver platter. It does not work that way."
"Yeah right. It just came so easy for you didn't it? How long did it take for you to get the Professor in your bed? How long did it take for you to jump back into the spotlight in Hollywood?"
"I have Roy because he truly loves me. I didn't force him to love me he did it on his own. Yes I made it clear on the island I was very interested in him. It was not easy to get him to admit he loved me too. We were both too scared to let the other know our feelings. Once we did, it was wonderful. You just want a man to up and love you because you think you are owed it. You are not owed a damn thing. When Mary Ann and I made you over on the island, you had the chance to feel good about yourself and try to make something more of your life. Instead you decided it would be easier to try and take my place. Well it backfired. You could never take my place. You are nothing but a bitter jealous shell of a woman. You believe that I don't deserve to be happy. You believe I don't deserve anything I have. Well I do not care what you believe. I worked hard for what I have. I didn't steal it from anyone. I didn't stamp my feet and whine that I was entitled to it. I did what I had to do to make it big in this business. I had to start with lousy parts in small productions. I went out with horrible men who wanted to take advantage of me. For so long I felt that was going to be my life. But it all changed. Directors and producers started to notice my talent and cast me in bigger and better roles. I gained notoriety and people talked about what a promising career I had going for me.
Then I met my darling Professor Roy Hinkley. He was nothing like the louses I had dated. He cared about me and didn't judge me on my past. In fact it made him love me more. He told me so himself. I never had to worry about finding him with another woman. You know that happened to me? I suppose I was young and stupid but I was crazy about this producer named Neil Callahan. I thought he was handsome and debonair. That is until I went to his home one day to find him in bed with another girl. And he did not even care that I caught him. He laughed at me saying how ridiculous I was to think I would be the only one. That is why I took that trip on the Minnow. I needed to get away. And it was the best thing that I ever did. I found my real love on that tiny boat. A man who adores me. I will always be grateful I took that trip."
Ginger stepped forward. "You see Eva. I did not always have it so good. It was not easy for me but I was determined to be a star and I became one. And you wanted to rip that away from me because of your jealousy towards me. Well you failed and failed big. No one believed the lies you tried to spread about me. And now you are exposed as the fraud you truly are. You can rot in this cell for the rest of your life. Good Bye!"
The starlet turned her heel and walked away from the cell. She knocked on the door signaling for the guard who opened the metal door. She walked through and Eva watched as the door then slammed shut. She was never going to see the light of day outside a prison for the rest of her life.
Four Months Later
Mary Ann frowned slightly and shook her head as she watched her movie star friend lip locking with a flustered professor who had been attempting to fix the railing on the porch of the home she and Gilligan had purchased. The farm girl could not help but laugh a bit as Ginger had Roy pressed against the beam her arms around him tightly. She supposed that it wasn't the redhead's fault. Her hormones were probably acting up from her pregnancy although one never knew with Ginger. Mary Ann like everyone knew full well how much the actress enjoyed kissing her dear husband.
Hand on her hip, Mary Ann approached gently tapping her famous friend on the shoulder.
"Ginger you were supposed to help me scrub the windows. Did you forget?"
Ginger let go a bit and grinned looking back at her brunette friend. "Sorry I got..distracted."
"Yeah I'll bet." The girl from Kansas said shaking her head. "Come on…let go of the Professor and help me." She took Ginger's hand leading her away.
"I love you darling." Ginger said as she was pulled backwards.
The Professor watched hypnotized by his wife as she turned away her hips swiveling. He knew one thing was for certain. There was no way he was ever going to get used to that. And frankly he did not care to get used to it. He loved that woman.
Gilligan came bounding up the steps with a can of paint however he tripped causing the paint to spill over the porch. He looked up at a grimacing Professor and said "Oops."
The Skipper arrived just in time to see his little buddy's mess. "Good going Gilligan." He said shaking his head.
"Sorry Skipper I guess I just missed a step.."
"You missed plenty of steps." Skipper quipped. "Come on…let's clean this mess up."
Inside the house Mrs. Howell was sitting on a chair making a list of all the "necessary things" Mary Ann and Gilligan needed for their home. Why they must have their very own private bath. Who wouldn't want that? Trust me dear you will love it….A big playroom for the children…You are going to have children someday aren't you Mary Ann?
Ginger giggled at the bewildered look in the young farm girl's face. God Bless Lovey Howell's heart. She always meant well. Ginger was very pleased though with the way she decorated her own house. Very classy and elegant. Mrs. Howell had exceptional tastes that was for sure.
The redhead wiped down the glass plane with soap and thought about the little one she was carrying. Although Roy said he would be pleased with either, Ginger longed for a son. She wanted to give him a son. Someone who he could pass all his brilliant scientific knowledge to. Of course he could do that with a daughter as well but still, she loved the idea of having a son just like her wonderful Professor. She rinsed the soap off and the window was sparkling clean like new. Ginger thought the house was quite remarkable. She could see why Mary Ann fell in love with it. Very charming and cozy. It suited Mary Ann and Gilligan perfectly.
Ginger then thought of something. "Mary Ann." She started.
"Yes?" replied the brunette as she cleaned another window pane.
"I was just thinking..I know you said you wanted to have your wedding on your parent's farm in Kansas but..why not have it right here?"
"Here? You mean at this house?" Mary Ann asked.
Mrs. Howell spoke up. "Why that's simply a splendid idea!" Her eyes lit up as a million different ideas went through her mind. "You could have a beautiful outdoor ceremony by that lovely little pond…How romantic it would be…."
Mary Ann smiled. "I never thought about it…but that does seem nice."
Ginger nodded her head. "I agree. You should do it. I'm sure your folks won't mind. It would be easier to show everyone the new house instead of everyone having to fly out again."
"True." Mary Ann agreed. "You know what…maybe I will have the wedding here. And the reception!" She clasped her hands together. "What a great idea! I'll go talk to Gilligan!'
She hurried off to the front porch. "Gilligan! Gilligan." Mary Ann called out.
"What is it?" He asked forgetting he was holding a ladder for the Skipper who then tumbled to the ground. "Oops sorry Skipper."
"Oh you will be sorry alright!' The sea captain said standing up and smacking him with his cap.
Mary Ann shook her head. Some things never changed.
Five Months Later
The Gilligan home was coming together and Ginger was getting close to her due date.
Right now she was adding touches to one of the bedrooms that would someday be for a child. She stood painting a wall a pretty pink color when she felt a pain in her back. Ginger pressed through but the pain was getting more intense. She put her hand on her back and sat down on the bed wiping her brow. A few second later the pain had passed and she stood up getting ready to start again when she felt an even sharper pain. Panic filled her. "Roy!" She called out. "Roy!"
The academic who was just across the hall painting a dresser hurried to the room.
"Ginger…Ginger what is it?"
"Darling…I...Oh! Darling…I think…Roy…" She grabbed his hand and squeezed. Her other hand was on her stomach.
"Is it the baby?" He asked.
Ginger nodded.
"Okay..come on….we need to get you to the hospital…" He helped her out of the room and carefully down the stairs.
Mary Ann came out of the kitchen noticing the pair. "What's wrong?"
"The baby." The Professor answered.
"Oh." The brunette said. "Okay well…" Then it hit her. "The baby!" She shrieked. "Oh my! Should I call the doctor?"
"Yes please." The Professor replied. "Dr. Schwartz. I had left his number by the phone in case something like this happened."
Mary Ann hurried to the phone and dialed the number. Ginger's pains grew more and Skipper helped the Professor bring her to the waiting car. He offered to drive to which the scholar was grateful for. Ginger needed him and he couldn't concentrate on her while driving.
Skipper got in the driver's seat while the couple was in the back. "Hang in there Ginger." He said starting up the car. "I'll have you at the hospital in no time."
Ginger said nothing as she did her breathing. She was just happy Roy was there with her. Never in her life had she experienced anything quite like this. It was a little scary to say the least. Having her husband by her side calmed her a bit.
Jonas Grumby raced down the road as fast at he could. He was not concerned with getting a speeding ticket. In fact if a cop did stop them, it may help get them to the hospital quicker. However there were no police around but they did make it to the hospital in good time. He pulled up to the entrance were hospital personnel was waiting. Thankfully the press did not get wind of anything and were not there to snap photos.
Ginger was certain she would kill anyone who dared take her picture with the way she looked.
The movie star was brought in to a room and Dr. Schwartz checked her saying it may be a little while longer but she was doing great.
A few minutes later, Mary Ann and Gilligan arrived. Ginger's parents could not be there as Pierce had unfortunately been called out of town on business. They were going to fly in as soon as possible. Both were thrilled that their grandchild was coming into the world.
Roy's parents were able to make it and both were beside themselves with joy.
The Howells showed up then filled with pride as if their own grandchild was being born.
Both the Hinkleys and the Grants insisted they would be the child's grandparents too. After all, they took such good care of their son and daughter on that island, and were like second parents to them. Why shouldn't they share in the happiness?
Jessica showed not too long after excited about being an aunt.
Two hours passed. Mary Ann was pacing the floor wishing she could be in there with Ginger. The Professor was in there. Ginger insisted he be there and threatened to sue anyone who claimed he could not be. He was her husband and she wanted him with her. No one argued with the starlet and gave the Professor scrubs to wear in the delivery room.
In the waiting room, Roy's mother was telling Mrs. Howell about this simply adorable bassinette she purchased when the doctor came out. They all stopped talking and looked at the physician.
"I'm happy to report that you are the proud grandparents and aunts and uncles of a very healthy beautiful baby boy." Dr. Schwartz announced to the group.
It was then that Joan and Pierce came running in. "We're here! We're here!" They both exclaimed. "Any news?"
The doctor smiled at them. "I was just telling everyone that Ginger had a beautiful healthy baby boy."
Joan teared up. "A boy? Oh that's so…How he is?"
"He's s healthy as can be. Weighing in at a good 7 pounds and 13 ounces."
Pierced beamed with pride. "Can we see him?"
"In good time. We are moving Ginger into a private room and the baby is being taken care right now by the nurses. Once we get her settled, you can see them both." He went to turn away when Gilligan stopped him.
"Wait." The sailor said. "What is the baby's name?"
The doctor shook his head. "I'm not supposed to tell you." He said mysteriously as he walked away.
Ginger was settled in and the baby was brought in for her to hold. She looked over the bundle wrapped in a blue blanket. "Roy isn't he just precious."
"He certainly is." The Professor said. He leaned over and kissed Ginger's head. "You did great my love."
"I couldn't have done it without you." She smiled at him.
There was a knock at the door. "May we come in?" Mary Ann asked.
Ginger smiled. "Sure..come on in."
The group entered the room and they were in awe of the child. "Oh he's so sweet." Mary Ann gushed.
"He is something." Skipper said happily. He turned to Jessica. "What do you think of your new nephew?"
"Beautiful." Jessica said with a smile. "Simply beautiful."
"What's his name." Gilligan asked his curiosity piqued since the doctor said he wasn't supposed to tell.
Ginger smiled at Roy and then looked at the young sailor. "His name is William Roy Hinkley."
Gilligan's eyes went wide. "William? You mean…."
"Yes Gilligan." The Professor stated. "After giving it some thought, we decided we wanted to name our son after you."
"Wow really?" The sailor grinned.
"Yes." The starlet said smiling. "You helped bring Roy and I together."
"I did?" He asked perplexed.
"You remember when we were reacting what happened on the Minnow when the storm hit?" The Professor asked.
"Yeah."
"And we found out that you did not throw the anchor." Ginger explained. "Because of that, we ended up on the island. Which is a blessing because if you had thrown that anchor we never would have been stranded and I would never have gotten to have Roy in my life. Your mistake was a blessing. I'm glad that anchor was never thrown."
Gilligan smiled. "Gee and here I thought everyone was mad….I'm glad to have helped!"
"That's why we decided to name our son after you." The Professor explained. "You may have messed up our rescues but in a way it was good because the longer we stayed on the island, the closer I could get to my beautiful Ginger. I'm thankful for that."
Mary Ann kissed the young sailor's cheek. "See Gilligan, you did do something right."
Ginger took the Professor's hand in hers. "He most certainly did."
Later on Ginger was resting in her bed and the Professor was standing outside the nursery of the hospital looking in amazement at the little life that he created with Ginger. It was incredible. Did he think this would happened when he took that trip on the Minnow? Never in a million years.
Jessica stood beside him smiling at her nephew. "He is something else." She said. "You are very lucky. You have my sister and a new baby."
"Thank you Jessica." He said not taking his eyes off his son. "I certainly feel lucky.
She smiled and walked down the hallway. While she was happy she could not help feel a bit sad. Sad that she would not have this experience. It wasn't mean to be. Jessica supposed that at least being an aunt would be enough. All of a sudden tears came to her eyes and she could not stop them. She slunk down against the wall sobbing.
The Skipper found her. "Jess…" He said concerned. "Jess what's wrong?"
The older Grant sister lifted her head. "I'm sorry…I know….I am happy for my sister. I swear I am. I just can't help but thinking how I will never have this. I will never experience….Yes I know this is something I should not be thinking about right now…"
The sea captain sat down beside her. "It's okay. You are allowed to feel whatever you want to feel. I know how hard it is for you to see your sister with a new baby. I understand."
"It doesn't matter anyway." Jessica said. "Even if I could have a child…I don't have a husband. I doubt it will happen anytime soon regardless."
"Listen to me, like your sister, you are a beautiful bright young lady. I'm sure that any man would be very lucky to have…" His sentence was cut off by Jessica pressing her lips against his.
