Fionna stepped out of her blue VW Bug and up the driveway after working at the beach all day tiredly. Albeit it was her birthday, the seventeen year old had to save two beachers from drowning and had to teach a swimming 101 from four to seven at the Y.
In the past year, Fionna' s life had changed completely. Her and Finn had finally found a house a few houses away from the beach. It was two story with a balcony and the beach was practically their backyard. Penny still stayed with them. But they weren't the only ones with a new home.
Idris and Blaze's mother had found a house a few blocks away from the blonds for them to stay in. Their father was charged with domestic violence and rape earning him fifteen years in prison with a very little chance of probation.
Marshall Lee finally got his casts removed and his motorcycle back. Along with these things came his own home a few houses away from Fionna. Of course they were happy with this, and he still was avoiding his mom, but they ignored these things completely. If she was showing any interest in finding him he couldn't tell. As far as he knew she hadn't called or tried to find him. The school hadn't mentioned it, nor did anyone in town. When these thoughts came to him he'd shake it off and go home, smash or break something. That was just how he rolled.
Fionna pulled out her house key and stuck it in the doorknob. She twisted it and opened the door.
It was dark in the home, causing her to mumble something unintelligible to herself as she flipped the light switch on.
Automatically she was showered with confetti and screamed at with multiple "Surprise!" 's. Fionna shielded her face and squinted to make sure she was seeing right. All of here friends and family (Well Finn) stood in the living room which was decorated with a birthday things and a giant banner that read "Happy Birthday Fionna!" They'd actually thrown her a party.
She hadn't had a birthday party since she was five. Lola Persons screamed "Get those buns on the dance floor guys!" cuing the music and dancing.
Fionna removed her arm from her face and felt her cheeks tinge punk when she realized that she was just wearing green sport short shorts, A blue bikini top with only a black sports jacket to cover her bare arms.
Marshall Lee walked over towards her and bent down so that his breath tickled her ear.
"I've got a surprise for you." he said.
"What?" Fionna asked feeling her cheeks getting redder.
"Come outside on the balcony with me."
"Kay." Fionna said as he grabbed her hand and lead her out onto the balcony with him.
Marshall Lee closed the doors so that it was just them in complete silence. They walked over to the edge of the balcony and leaned against the railing.
Fionna pressed her belly to the railing and gripped the round metal as she looked up at the beautiful March night.
"Fionna."
"Yeah?" the blond turned to face Marshall Lee. He grabbed his bass from the side of the balcony.
"I've been meaning to tell you something." Marshall Lee said managing to hide how nervous he was with a smirk and a quick strum of his bass to make sure it was tuned.
"So after a whole year of hanging out, it turns out that I like you. Like LIKE like you. And it wasn't exactly after a year. It was like a few weeks after we met. S'just some of this stuff I can't really say without it ever being awkward, so I decided to say how I feel in a song. I know it's kind of cheesy, but this is way easier for me." Marshall Lee said.
He took a deep breath and played his bass as he began to sing.

Fionna felt her eyes widen and her cheeks blush like crazy. Marshall Lee smirked at her and continued his love song.

Marshall Lee pulled a small box made of blue velvet and sat it on the ground in front of him and finished singing.

The last few chords played echoed through Fionna' s mind like she was in a tunnel full of love. Tears fell down her cherry red cheeks as she nodded her head rapidly.
"Yes Marshall. I love you too." She cried.
Marshall Lee opened the small box and revealed a silver ring with a blue sapphire the size of the crease between the middle of her finger. It shined brightly in the full moonlight as he placed it on her finger.
"Its a promise ring. Because blue, you're forever mine." Marshall Lee said holding her hand and kissing it.
She couldn't help but giggle at this gesture and this caused him to smirk. Marshall Lee pulled her into a hug for a second then pulled away to kiss her passionately. To he honest, this was her first kiss and she completely loved it, but all beautiful moments have to end eventually.
Marshall Lee pulled away from Fionna and they walked hand in hand into the living room. The party was in full swing when the reentered. Idris ran over to them and grabbed Fionna' s hand.
"Come on! It's time to open your gifts!" she said excitedly dragging her towards the coffee table in the den with Marshall close behind.
Everyone gathered around the seventeen year old blond and watched as she picked up the first present. The wrapping paper was a forest green with leaves trailing down the side.
"That's from me sis." Finn said taking a sip of his Pepsi. Fionna smiled and opened the small box and gasped when she saw the new IPad.
"Whoa Finn..." Fionna looked up at her older brother. "How did you..."
"Oh, well when Dad passed away I found out that we inherited the money he had in the bank for us when I hit eighteen. Turns out him and Mom had enough money for us to buy a country." Finn said with a toothy grin.
"I was wondering how we could afford this place."
"Yeah, we own it now." Finn said fist bumping Jake.
Fionna continued unwrapping the presents getting a a bunny eared head band from Jake, earrings from Ash, a ukele from Nikki, a birth stone necklace from the twins, and plenty more from the other guests.
Fionna picked up the second to last gift. It was the size of an iPod and the wrapping paper was the night sky.
"That's from me." Marshall Lee said.
Fionna tore the paper off slowly and gasped when she saw the locket. It was a golden heart with a small blue jewel in the center. She opened it slowly to reveal a picture of all of her closest friends the day after the bonfire a few weeks earlier. On the other side was the reflection of the night sky with a full moon peeking from behind a few clouds. In the box it came in was a small white card. Written in golden cursive was a message.

Fionna smiled warmly as a single tear fell from her eye. She stood up and embraced Marshall Lee in a hug.
"I love you Marshall."
"Love you too blue." He whispered. He the kissed her deeply. And this time Fionna immediately returned it smiling against his warm lips.
Finn cleared his throat and Fionna blushed nervously when she realized that everyone was watching them. She unwrapped the blue and green paper and opened up the long slender box. Her eyes widened and she screamed loudly at the present.
"What is it?" Marshall asked.
"...It's...a sword!" Fionna said pulling it out of the box and swinging it around. The handle was silver with blue at the edges. A bow wrapped around the middle and was metallic blue. The rest was all cold hard metal stopping at the end with a sharp point.
Everyone stepped out of the way to avoid getting anything chopped off by the weapon. Fionna swung it around a few times until realization hit her.
"...Who's it from?" She asked looking around the box.
"Not me." everyone said. She looked closely at the sword and thought for a second. It was so familiar.
Lola took this as a sign to turn the music back on and let every one jam out. Marshall Lee grabbed Fionna' s hand and pulled her closer to him as they danced to the music. He twirled her around and pulled her into a dip. This made her grin even more since this was the same gesture her father would do to her mother when she was younger. And like her father did, he kissed her passionately like people did in the old timey movies.
After blowing out the candles to her two thick layer vanilla cream cake, she danced the night away with Marshall and her friends. After midnight, most of the people left. Only a handful of people were left.
"That cake was good Bonnie. Since when did you bake?" Blaze said after eating his seventh slice.
"I'll remember this when it's your birthday Blaze. You practically ate half of my flippin cake man!" Fionna said.
"Then you'd be depriving my awesome twin of her cake too." Blaze said nonchalantly.
"I learned to bake back in England. My roommate taught me." Bonnie answered.
"That's pretty cool." Jake said.
"Oh my glob guys, I just got a text saying that baking is...totally laaaaaaame!" Marshall Lee said mimicking Lola; causing everyone to laugh.
"Shut up Marshall Lee." Bonnie said playfully shoving him. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
"I got it guys." Finn said moaning and standing up. He walked over to the door and almost slammed it when he saw who it was.
"Hello darling. Is my son here?" Heather Abadeer said with a fake smile.
