A Day in the Life of Marceline the Rock star Queen:
It was the same old same old. She would wrote a song, record it, listen to it a hundred times, then sing it a thousand times, and before you know it, it was the number one song on the charts.
She yearned for just one normal day, where she could stuff her face with junk food and jam out with her old friends. Maybe screw around and go to a college party. After all, she was supposed to graduate from high school this year.
Things were hard enough without her dad being on her case all the time about her grades and not trying hard enough. "What if you hit rock bottom one day? Then what kind of career will you have?" He'd preach. And when he was all about her music career, he'd be all "You did it wrong, sing that part again." when she's in the studio. Yes he owned the record company, but he was still her father. She couldn't ever remember him giving her a 'Thank you' or 'Good job Marceline.' Just, 'You're my daughter, act like it' when she messes up or she's having fun.
She never had a chance to see her old friends. Whenever she's in the area, she was too busy and when she did have free time, her dad would make her study for something; even if she didn't have schoolwork or homework.
She could remember their names by heart. One of them in particular was glued to her head forever. He was there for her when she wasn't the badass girl she usually was. He didn't judge her or think of her as a snobby rich kid when she told him her secret. That her dad had billions in the bank for her if he ever passed. He was the guy she first kissed, even though she mad the first move. She didn't crush on him like she first did for a while, because she knew that ship sailed when Bonnibel Jones moved to town. He would leave her side and run to her like she was a princess. This was the gap in her once called 'friendship' with Bonnibel. That she would never forget. She thought she saw him a year ago, but she knew he was in Phoenix. That him being there wasn't true.
She didn't love LA in the slightest, but that was where they moved to when she became the Rock star Queen. That was her title now, Marceline the Rock star Queen. Had a ring to it if you asked her.
"You have the whole day to do whatever you want in this city." Hudson Aberdeen said to her. It was her eighteenth birthday. She was at home applying eyeliner when she granted him the right to enter her bedroom. She practically messed her makeup up when he said it with a crooked smile. She ran over and gave him a bear hug.
"Thank you Daddy!" she said in a muffled voice since her face was against his suit.
"Just be sure to be on time to your birthday bash. I don't want my little girl to be late to her own party." He said ruffling her hair as she pulled away.
"Dad, I'm eighteen now. Practically an adult." She huffed.
"I know, just remember that I love you."
"Dad..." Marceline said. This was new.
"I know I rarely say it. And I'm always busy...So I thought I should. Since one day soon you're gonna want to move out and I just...just don't want you to remember me as some sour straw and-"
"Okay okay dad, just...I love you too. I'm gonna get ready."
"Alright, but you're still my little girl. You remember that."
"Kay, sour straw." Marceline said with a smirk making her way over to the mirror again.
"You know what I mean, just...have fun." he replied a he closed the door.
"Thank God! Freedom here I come!" Marceline said grabbing her purse after getting ready. She opened her window and breathed in the April morning air. After a few minutes, she closed it and walked downstairs.
"By Daddy.!" she said as she walked out the door.
"Mhhm." He said as he sipped on his coffee.
She walked out and was greeted by her limo chauffeur Frank.
"Good morning Miss Aberdeen. And happy birthday." He said nodding his head and opening the limousine door.
"Um...thank you Frank but...I'm gonna drive my mustang today." Marceline said walking towards the garage.
"As you wish madam."
She smiled and walked down to the garage. She typed in the code 'Rocknroll' in the keypad and grinned as it opened; revealing her slick dark purple mustang.
She hadn't driven it since she was sixteen, but that didn't mean she forgot how to drive. So as she pulled out of the driveway and into the open road, she gave herself a mental high five.
"Woohoo!" she screamed out the window as she sped down the road.
Marceline laughed at herself. "I don't even know where to start!?" she said happily. She pulled out her phone and turned it on. Then, placing it on the IPod deck, played her favorite songs. The ones she hadn't written herself.
I chimed in with a
haven't you people ever heard of
closing the goddamn door no
it's much better to face these kinds of things
"With a since of poise and rationality!" Marceline sang. She pulled into the LA Mall and turned off her music. She grabbed her phone and her purse and walked into the mall. Making sure to put on a pair of shades.
One thing she did remember from her visits here when her mom was alive was Starbucks, The Candy Stool, and Killer CD Shop. She'd hit them up in that order, then maybe buy a birthday outfit later. She walked into Starbucks and inhaled one of her most favorite scents. She walked over to the small line and waited until it was her turn to order.
"Hi, welcome to Starbucks, may I take your order?" the cashier asked. She looked up from the register and smiled like a lunatic. "You're...Oh my God!"
"Yeah yeah I know, just..." Marceline sighed and handed her the money and extra for the coffee. "...can I get a caramel frap with extra whipped cream. Oh! And a blueberry muffin."
The cashier, who judging from her name tag was Audri, smiled at her hundred dollar tip and pocketed it. "Alright, stand in the line on the right, ma'am." She said with a wink.
Marceline gave her a thumbs up and walked over to the line. She received her order easily since the lady handing hers to her didn't even look at her, and turned to walk in the seat she sat at with her mother.
But before she could stop, she collided with someone; spilling her coffee all on them.
"Oh glob I am so sorry!" Marceline said grabbing a napkin and trying to clean the stain. She looked up to meet the baby blue eyes of he old childhood friend she promised she wouldn't forget.
"Hey no worries-" Finn looked at her purple orbs and a grin spread across his face. "Marceline!?"
"Finn! Oh my glob!" she yelled happily hugging him. She knew she would get some coffee on her shirt, but she didn't care. "Where have...how!?"
"I've moved out of the foster care system. A year to be precise. Me and Fi, we live in our own place here in LA now. I got a job and I'm in college and everything! " Finn said hugging her back. He pulled away and walked her over to the table he wad sitting at. It just so happened to be her special memory booth. He sat in the seat across from her. He sat staring at her with that big toothy smile she remembered him by, making her blush profoundly. "Well look at Marcy. You've been busy." Finn said.
"Yeah, but you know...sometimes..." Marceline hesitated.
"It can be rough."
"Especially with my dad on my case all the time. S'like when my mom died, so did the music.
"Yeah, remember how your dad would give me a hard time. He was all 'You're not worthy of her!' every time I asked if you could come out and play. " Finn said mimicking her dad.
"Yeah, how old were we back then?" Marceline asked laughing.
"I dunno, probably like your were elev and I was twelve." Finn said. "Speaking of age, isn't it your birthday?"
"Yeah...how did you remember?" Marceline asked surprised.
"I never forget a birthday...except Fionna' s sometimes." They both laughed at his mistake.
"Well like I promised you Finn, I'll never forget you."
"Yeah, I'm glad you didn't. Cause after you left, I sure as hell didn't forget you." Finn said sheepishly.
Marceline smiled and put her hand on his. Finn looked up at her and smiled back at her. "I really did miss you Finn. You were the only one I couldn't forget after a while."
Marceline chuckled when she saw him blush. "Still a weenie I see."
"Shut up! So how long are you gonna be here?" Finn said.
"Hmmm not long, I'm only here for my birthday bash extravaganza or whatever. My dad said that home was the best place to have the party."
"Cool."
"You can come if you want. Invite as many people as you want. A lot of my so called 'celeb' friends will be there. Just wear a costume." Marceline said reaching into her purse and handing him an invite.
"Thanks. You don't have anywhere to be anywhere anytime soon besides that do you?"
"Nope! I've got the whole day to chill out and rock out without my dad breathing down my neck." Marceline said reclining in her seat.
"Good, cause me and a couple of friends are going to chill at my place in thirty minutes. I want you to come." Finn said.
"Okay, cool." Marceline said as they finished their coffee, got up, and left Starbucks.
Marceline didn't want to leave her mustang in the parking lot, so Finn drove in his car and Marceline followed behind him in hers.
They pulled into Finn's curb a few minutes later and stepped out of their vehicles.
"Nice place Mertins." Marceline said with a smirk.
"I know right? My dad left plenty of money. I don't even have to go to college or work." Finn said unlocking the front door.
"Then why do you?"
"I wanna be normal."
Marceline sighed. "Wish I could."
"Well today you'll be just that."
They walked into his home. All eyes fell on her and Finn.
"Guys, this is my old friend Marceline." Finn said gesturing to her. She sat down in the couch next to Fionna, who Marceline found had a smile as big as Finn's.
"Hi Marceline. Long time no see." Fionna said fist bumping her.
"Hey Fi Fi, fame kind of does that to you." Marceline said.
"Marceline, you know Fionna. That's Nikki." Finn said gesturing towards the brunette, who waved and said 'sup.' "Marshall Lee..." Marshall Lee nodded his head and replied 'yo.' "Ash.." Ash waved at her and smiled. "And Blaze and Idris." the twins smiled at her.
"Hey guys." Marceline said.
"Oh my God I know who you are!" Blaze said with a mischievous smirk. "Rock star Queen."
"No shit Sherlock. I think that was given away when he said 'this is Marceline.'" Marceline said with a smirk.
"This one's fiery Finn."
"So is the name Blaze." Marceline countered.
At that moment, Bonnie walked in then room with a bowl of popcorn. "Hey guys, the popcorn is rea-" her eyes met Marceline' s and she dropped the bowl. "WHAT THE HELL IS SHE DOING HERE!?" Bonnie yelled angrily. Marceline got up and glowered at Finn. "FINN, WHAT THE FUCK!? YOU DIDN'T TELL ME BUBBLEGUM WAS GONNA BE HERE!" Marceline yelled.
"Its Bonnie and what are you doing talking to MY boyfriend!?"
"WHAT!?" Marceline, at that moment, felt her heart tear in half. They were back together?
"Yeah, MY Finn!" Bonnie said walking over to Finn and interlocking her fingers with his.
"Whoa Bonnie, don't get jelly." Marceline said with a smirk and holding her hand up in a defensive motion.
"WHY WOULD I BE JEALOUS OF SOME WANNA BE ROCK STAR WHEN I'VE GOT EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED!?" Bonnie yelled.
"OH HELL NO! WANNABE!? I'M THE FLIPPIN ROCK STAR QUEEN BITCH GET IT STRAIGHT!" Marceline roared.
"DON'T YOU DARE-"
"What? Oh I'm sorry, I don't speak hateful hag." Marceline said cupping her hand over her ear.
"I'M NO HAG!" Bonnie protested. "Ever since the day I met you you've been this...this stupid rowdy moron who thinks she's some big shot since she's a rock star! Well we may be the same through wealth, but I will never, ever consider you my equal! You're so uncivilized it's...Ooo you make me want to rip your head off!" Bonnie said.
"Oh I'm uncivilized? I'm not the one getting all possessive over a human being Bubblestick." Marceline said.
"You...You know what, Finn choose now. Me or her?" Bonnie demanded.
"Uh..." Finn looked at both of his friends. "We need to talk. Both of you." He said pointing at them. "Alright, everyone basically heard this right?"
He was rewarded with 'yeses' and 'totallies'.
"Good. So everyone says one flaw about Bonnie and Marceline." Finn insisted.
"What's the point-" Marceline said.
"Except you two. You'll rip each other throats out if either of you speak about the other. Fionna you start."
"Kay, um..." Fionna looked at Marceline. "You curse a lot. You have a potty mouth young lady." Fionna said playfully. She seriously couldn't take this...serious. "And Bonnie, you are too spazzy."
"Alright..." Blaze said. He stood up and rubbed his palms together like he was making a big announcement. "Marceline, you're just too damn sexy-"
"Dude! We said bad things!" Marshall Lee said.
"That is bad...for some guys." Blaze said wiggling his brows.
"I like this guy." Marceline said jerking her thumb at him.
"Come on man!" Finn said.
"Oh right. Blue bell, you need to chill out more."
"Okay Marceline..." Nikki said tapping her chin. "You called her a hag and um...that's all I have for her. She makes awesome music."
"Thanks." Marceline said.
"Bonnie, you get jealous too easy."
"Pass, I don't really want to get involved right now." Idris said looking down at her phone and holding up her hand while she texted back her mom.
"Let's see here..." Marshall Lee said. "Marceline...you had a right to talk to Finn, and I respect that. But you didn't have to throw that jealous bunk all in her face. Even though I would have, but I'm me. S'just how I roll. Bonnie, you're too possessive. Let Finn be his own person. If he wants to hang out with other girls, be cool about it. You don't get mad when Idris or Nikki are around him. What's the difference with Marceline?"
"You see, you both are acting dumb. Just make amends to what happened seven years ago and move on." Finn said.
Bonnie looked at Marceline, who looked at her.
"How about you tell each other why you hate each other so badly then."Blaze suggested.
"Alright, Marceline just upped and left when she became famous. She didn't even talk to me afterward!" Bonnie yelled.
"You wanna know why I left so badly!? Fine! I left because you betrayed me!" Marceline shouted.
"What are you talking about!?"
"You heard me! I told you the day you moved in our neighborhood that I liked Finn. I mean I was practically head over heels for the weenie! But you, you asked him out and started dating him! That's why I left! Because you were a horrible best friend! Then you were all "Miss Successful" at school! I didn't understand half the crap there and you knew it! So you rubbed it in my face!" Marceline yelled.
Finn felt his cheeks turn red as he watched.
"Marceline I...I don't remember-"
"Ah yeah right Bonnie! You always remember! Miss Goody Goody, Miss Remember Everyone's birthday, Miss Perfect child! My dad likes you more than he likes me! He used to talk about how I should be more like you! That hurts to hear that from you own father, Bonnie! Real bad! That was when I realized music was my only escape. I knew you couldn't play any instrument or sing worth shit! So I got signed by my dad's record label and began my career away from you!"
Marceline felt herself tremble in the inside. No, crying would make her seem weak. And she wasn't weak.
Bonnie looked at her in shock. She took a step towards her. "Marceline I...I'm so sorry. I never knew you truly did like him."
"Just forget it. It's not worth it. It never has been." Marceline said stepping away from her. "Its too late now anyways."
"Hold on a second," Blaze said standing up. "You mean to tell me this whole cat fight has been about this knuckle head over here?" the red head chuckled.
"From the sound of it." Nikki said. Bonnie walked over to Marceline And puta hand on her shoulder. This time she didn't jerk away, but her jaw clenched.
"Marceline, I'm so sorry. From the sound of it it seemed like it's been my fault this whole time. I don't want to stay enemies. Besides, this would only make it harder for Finn to hang out with us both if we hate each other."
Marceline looked at her and her face softened. She sighed. "Bonnie, I don't hate you. I was just way to upset about Finn. I don't really like him anymore, you know? Maybe the only reason I did was because of the fact that all the other guys in the neighborhood we're dickheads." This caused them both to laugh. Marceline held out her fist for Bonnie to bump. "Friends?"
"Friends." Bonnie said returning the gesture without hesitation.
"Finally! That's out of the way." Finn said.
"Hey Marshall. Maybe you and Bubba could-"
"Not even in your wildest dreams." Marshall said cutting Ash off midsentence.
"That's another problem for another day Ash." Fionna replied.
"While I've got your attentions, how about you guys coming to my party tonight? It's at seven. Wear costumes. The celebs there are supposed to hide their identities so people won't flip." Marceline said.
"Are you serious?" Nikki asked mesmerized at the thought.
"As a heart attack."
It was then Jake walked in the house with a pack of soda. He dropped it on the couch and looked surprised to see Marceline. He ran over and pulled her in for a bear hug.
"God Jake, I'm not Beyoncé." Marceline said sarcastically.
"I haven't seen you in years Marcy!" Jake pulled away and ruffled her hair as he sat down in a nearby chair. "How've ya been?"
"Good, got a sick party tonight. Mind crashing?"
"Ah yea boi!" Jake stood up and bro-fisted Finn just when Finn was standing to bro-fist Jake. "Party time!" They said in unison.
"I can't believe you to weenies still do that." Marceline said shaking her head.
"Never gets old." Fionna said laughing. Cake strolled in and jumped into her lap. "Like the good old days..."
"Yep! Everyone's here now." Finn said.
"Except Bubba..."
"Let it go Fionna." Marshall warned.
"Alright, alright." Fionna said making a defensive motion. "Geez."
"So Rock Star Queen." Jake said with a smug face. "Play us a song. Haven't heard you sing live in a while."
"Like I could. Didn't bring my electric guitar." Marceline said.
"I've got one Marceline." Nikki said pulling hers from behind the couch. "We just got back from band practice."
"You guys have a band?"
"Yeah, Marshall Lee and the Scream Kings." Marshall answered with an arrogant grin.
"Well since I've got like, what? Five free hours? Why don't we go somewhere where I can hear you guys play. Then I'll sing one for you. Win win." Marceline said grabbing the electric guitar and playing a tune from a song she'd been working on.
"Sweet! We've got a music room in the basement!" Fionna said happily. They all went downstairs where the band stuff was already set up. Everyone went over to where their equipment was. While Marceline, Jake, Idris, Finn, Fionna, and Bonnie stood and waited for the song.
"Ready when you are man." Blaze said to Marshall. He nodded his head at the rest of the band as the song started up.
Coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
gotta gotta be down because I want it all
it started out with a kiss
how did it end up like this
it was only a kiss
it was only a kiss
now I'm falling asleep
and she's calling a cab
while he's having a smoke
and she's taking a drag
now they're going to bed
and my stomach is sick
and it's all in my head
but she's touching his chest now
He takes off her dress now
let me go
I just can't look
it's killing me
they're taking control
jealousy turning stakes into the sea
playing lucid lullabies
choking on your alibies
but it's just a price I pay
destiny is calling me
open up my eager eyes
cause I'm mister bright side
I'm Coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
gotta gotta be down because I want it all
it started out with a kiss
how did it end up like this
it was only a kiss
it was only a kiss
now I'm falling asleep
and she's calling a cab
while he's having a smoke
and she's taking a drag
now they're going to bed
and my stomach is sick
and it's all in my head
but she's touching his chest now
He takes off her dress now
let me go
cause I just can't look
it's killing me
they're taking control
jealousy turning stakes into the sea
playing lucid lullabies
choking on your alibies
but it's just a price I pay
destiny is calling me
open up my eager eyes
cause I'm mister bright side
I never
I never
I never
I never
The song came to a slow close and earned them a round of applause from their small audience.
"Killer lyrics, Marshall right?" Marceline said approaching them.
"Yeah, and thanks. It means a lot coming from you." Marshall said.
"Yeah, 'specially since you're like the number one rock star out there." Nikki added.
"That, and you're just too damn sexy." Blaze said.
"And I love you too Blaze." Marceline said. And if do recall right..." Marceline looked at Fionna. "Can't you sing too?"
"Oh I'm not-"
"She's totally in the band." Marshall Lee said cutting Fionna off. He gave her a wink.
"But I don't think-"
"Just one song Fi. S'not like it'll kill you." Marceline said.
Fionna sighed and walked over to the mic. She remembered what Marshall Lee had told her when they first sung that love song a year ago.
'Sing from your heart. Let your soul do the talking and you'll be fine...'
She sighed heavily into the mic as the song started off with a soft tune from Marshall's bass.
When I was younger I saw
My daddy die
and curse at the wind
He broke his own heart and I watched
as he tried to reassemble it
and my mommy swore that she would
never let herself forget
and that was the day that I promised
I'd never sing of love
if it does not exist
But darling
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
Everyone played along to the tune. A lone tear fell from her eye as she looked at Marshall. He was her true love.
well maybe I know somewhere
deep in my soul
that love never lasts
and we've gotta find other ways
to make it alone
and keep a straight face
and I've always lived like this
keeping a comfortable
distance
and up until now I have sworn to myself
that I'm content with loneliness
cause none of it was ever worth the risk
But you are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the exception
You are the only exception
Nikki played an electric guitar solo. While she did this, Marshall couldn't help but wonder what made these depressing thoughts resurface.
I've got a tight grip on reality
But I can't
let go of what's in front of me here
I know you're leaving in the morning
when you wake up
leave me with some kind of
proof it's not a dream
Whoa
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
and I'm on my way to believing
Oh and I'm on my way to believing
The song came to a close as her friends applauded her.
"That was sorta sad there girlie." Blaze sais with a little concern.
"Just how I feel." Fionna said with a shrug.
"Well I for one thought it was pretty beautiful." Marceline said.
"That was sweet what you said about love." Bonnie added.
"I second that." Idris said.
"I feel you Sis." Finn said.
"You guys got loads of talent." Marceline said thinking for a second.
"We've sung something, mind singing something for us Mar Mar?" Blaze said drumming out a short beat.
"Never break my promises red." Marceline said grabbing Nikki's guitar.
La da da da da
I'm gonna bury You in the ground
La da da da da
I'm gonna bury you with my sound
I'm gonna raise the dead
awaken this rocking race I'm gonna...
"Marceline, that should be acoustic." Bonnie mumbled, but Marceline heard her clear as day.
"Oh, you don't like that?" She said continuing to play. "Or do you just not like me!?"
She burst out with a more rock and roll pace with a short guitar solo. Marshall Lee strummed his bass along with her, cuing everyone else to play along.
Sorry I don't treat you like a goddess
is that what you want me to do
sorry I dont treat you like you're perfect
like all your fake little subjects do
I'm sorry I'm not made of sugar
am I not sweet enough for you
is that why you tried to avoid me
I must be such an inconvenience to you well
I'm just your problem
I'm just your problem
it's like I'm not
even a person
am I
I'm just your problem well
I-I-I-I-I-I shouldn't have to justify what I do
I-I-I-I-I-I shouldn't have to prove anything to you
I'm sorry that I exists
I forgot
what landed me on your blacklist but
I-I-I-I-I-I shouldn't have to be the one
that makes up with you so
why do I want to
why do I want to
even though
I'm just your problem
I know
I'm just your problem yeah
Oh-o-o-o
Oh-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o
I'm just your
I'm just your-or-o-or
I'm just
I'm just your problem
She played out a longer guitar solo than before. Bonnie was fuming with anger as the song continued.
I'm just your problem
I'm just your problem
it's like I'm not
even a person
am I
I'm just your problem so
why do I want to
why do I want to
even though
it's all so pointless because
I'm just your pro-o-o-blem!
"Marceline! That wasn't called for!" Bonnie shouted.
"Oh, but criticizing my music was?" Marceline said. "You started it Bonnie, I just finished it."
"Hey hey!" Finn said getting between them. "Chill. Marceline the song we awesome. Just don't diss Bonnie next time."
"Actually, the first part was prewritten, I just winged it for the rest." Marceline said with a shrug. Her phone erlang, playing 'It's Time' by Imagine Dragons. "Hello?" She walked away while She spoke. "Yeah I'll be there. Dad, I've got this. I won't screw up. Yes I'll perform. S'my party. Whatever, bye." She hung up and sighed. "I gotta go. Apparently I gotta wear something new for the party. Later guys."
"Bye!" Everyone said randomly.
"I can't believe you knew the Rock Star Queen , blue." Marshall said.
"I still can't believe she's so damn sexy though." Blaze chimed in.
"Give it a rest man."
