Chapter 19: We Have Our Dragons!

Not long after the battle with Drago Bludvist was over, the Dragon Races restarted. Stryka and I were watching an eager to participate Terrible Terror trying to get a sheep of its own, only to get it stolen by the Twins! I smiled in amusement as Ruffnut wrestled the sheep away from Tuffnut to toss it to Fishlegs. He eagerly held out his waiting arms to receive the prize, but then Snotlout and Hookfang swooped in and grabbed it! Blowing a kiss to Ruffnut, Snotlout slammed the sheep into the Twins' net.

That's when I glanced to my right and saw Eret and Skullcrusher watching the race. They looked like they wanted to join too. Stryka and I looked at each other and smiled. With a laugh, I launched up into the air and we flew right past the two of them! Eret caught my eye and winked, making me giggle and, with a whoop of pure excitement, he and Skullcrusher joined the Dragon Race.

'This is Berk. A bit trampled, busted and covered in ice, but it's home…It's our home…'

I went on ahead of Eret to go help Hiccup and Toothless with some of the repairs. Together, the four of us helped fix up an entire roof in mere minutes. We were just about halfway done with the second roof when I saw that the progress on Stoick's statue right next to the Great Hall was going pretty well. The statue had both been my idea and Hiccup's. That way…Stoick would still be remembered and it'd be like he was still watching over us all. Hiccup and I then scoured the horizon, like we now did every day, to make sure that all was well in Berk.

'Those who attacked us are relentless and crazy. But those who stopped them, oh, even more so!'

All clear. No trouble afoot on our little isle. That's when Astrid and Stormfly swooped right over our heads, laughing merrily, and prompting me and Hiccup to join in on the fun as well.

'We may be small in numbers, but we stand for something bigger than anything the world can pit against us…'

I saw Astrid and Stormfly fly past the Dragon Armory, where Gobber, Valka and my parents were getting rid of all the armor of the formerly enslaved dragons. And, to make this Dragon Race extra special, they'd found another Black Sheep! Gobber and Dad then released the two unfortunate balls of black fleece up into the air.

'We are the voice of peace, and bit by bit, we will change this world…'

Hiccup and I looked at each other and grinned. We both had come to terms of which nets the Black Sheep will go into. Hiccup would score one for Astrid while I'll score the other one for our team. Eret and Astrid were both vying for both sheep. Good thing we got to them first! Toothless and Stryka both crooned, smiling their toothless smiles as we headed for the nets.

'You see, we have something they don't…'

Hiccup did a mid-air slam dunk of his Black Sheep into Astrid's net while Stryka and I did a flip and dropped ours into our team's net. We smiled and high fived victoriously.

'Oh, sure, they have armies, and they have armadas…but we…we have…'

All eight of us Dragon Riders descended onto the stands as the crowds cheered. I smiled widely as Toothless and Stryka both roared in victory. I had to admit, this had to be the best Dragon Race ever.

'OUR DRAGONS!'

We may have suffered a great loss in the battle, but we had endured and come out victorious. We were rebuilding our lives and our future. And Berk's new Chief, my brother not by blood but by bond, was already proving to be the greatest Chief Berk has.

Me?

Little did I know that exactly one month later, I was going to undertake on the most challenging and most exciting journey in my entire life…
